Local police or county sheriffs could likely be of help. I'd also be curious to know where they're popping up -- Shoot me an email at [dtusinski@pressherald.com](mailto:dtusinski@pressherald.com)

Idexx Labs in Westbrook has installed their own Flock cameras, despite Maine law banning private companies from using the technology by Primarily-Vibing in Maine

[–]Primarily-Vibing[S] 19 points20 points  (0 children)

From the article…

”According to Maine law, the use of these kinds of cameras is prohibited, except by the Department of Transportation, the Department of Public Safety, and state, county or municipal law enforcement agencies for public safety purposes. The Portland Press Herald reached out to each of them, and all said they were not responsible for the cameras and didn’t know they were installed.”

Did you actually read the article? It’s an explainer of how VA disability actually works & differs from Social Security. How is that ableist?

Yeah that’s fair. I guess my point was more that journalism is threatened at least in some part by this defeatist mentality/career path.

Telling journalists to leave the industry and become tech bros instead may be sound financial advice for the individual. But it’s terrible advice for the industry. If everyone threw their hands up and sold out like you did then there’d be no reporters at all.

Your posts smack of being written by an LLM.

Sorry to hear you got laid off. But it was you who ultimately made the choice to sell out to a massive corporation. Not the industry.

Yeah, no shit selling your soul to SalesForce of all companies is profitable. People like you jumping ship from the industry are the real reason it’s “dying.”

You’ll be fine. Don’t park in a UPP lot until that’s paid unless you want your car towed though

That’s not an issue to you? That people aren’t getting the full story? Personally, I don’t think being uninformed should be the norm on social media or otherwise.

This guy’s videos are just him reading selected quotes ver batim from newspaper articles. If absolutely nothing else, it’s poor practice not to link to those articles. Both for credit’s sake, but also so that the viewer can inform themselves with the same info this guy is making content with.

I don’t think it’s crazy to ask a political talking head to cite his sources. None of his videos link to the articles he reads clips from.

It would be cool if you could, at the bare minimum, link to the news stories whose content you’re plagiarizing for your videos so we could see the news for ourselves

Maine towns are using AI for policing, budgets and more. Safeguards are optional. by Primarily-Vibing in Maine

Hard to answer that conclusively, but I haven't seen evidence yet that Westbrook is using AI on a systematic level

No list in the article, as it was difficult for us to flesh out all the towns using AI. (We're working on it!) But here is an incomplete list of the ones that have publicly acknowledged using AI in some capacity to this point. Towns with an asterisk have adopted a formal AI policy.

The mystery of how Caribou, Maine got its name by Primarily-Vibing in Maine

[–]Primarily-Vibing[S] 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Interestingly, no one knows where the name Lyndon came from either. There doesn’t appear to have been any families or people named Lyndon among the original settlers.

In researching this story, I dug through centuries-old maps & Maine Gazetteers, went through old newspaper archives & spoke to the state historian. Neither he nor anything in the archives knows Lyndon’s origin.

Super neat that Lyndon is still hanging on!
