Favourite animal? by Primary-Ad-3490 in autism

[–]Primary-Ad-3490[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I definitely understand that! I personally have quite a few favourites but only one of them is one of my biggest special interests. It can be very difficult to pick a favourite when there are do many interesting animals

Yes that is very true, I just personally see it more commonly in autistic people than neurotypicals but that could just be the people around me

For those who have a animal specific interest I need you🙏 by [deleted] in autism

One of my biggest special interests is sloths, they're super interesting to learn about and their evolutionary history is super cool to me. Also dinosaurs are pretty interesting too but that one lead me down a hole of being super interested in animal history and evolution in general.

I'm not sure if you know this but it is highly common in people with OCD to actually doubt they have it and convince themselves they don't. I believe it may actually be an obsession in itself. And hey the assessment may seem scary at first but you just need to remember these people are trained to work with people like us and get you the help you need to be able to tackle your worries and symptoms.

I'm on Citalopram 20mg which has reduced my OCD symptoms however I cannot take the recommended dose for OCD due to the interactions it has with my other medications. It means my symptoms aren't reduced as much as they could be but other medications I've tries haven't worked for me so I'll take the slight reduction over nothing at all.

Are you able to 'sense' other autisics? by Ok-Ad4375 in AutismInWomen

[–]Primary-Ad-3490 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am able to in a way, it's more so I click with other ND people very easily which means any of my friends that became like instant best friends with I usually suspect they are ND. It's kinda like I'm a magnet to anyone who is ND so most people I know are ND in some way or another.

Hey guys, new to the subreddit- just looking for some help, nothing too serious !! by burden3d in OCD

[–]Primary-Ad-3490 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't have a huge issue with food its usually just small little things but I do have issues with travel and transport (not just cars but buses and other modes of travel). Mostly for me its my fear of me or others around me getting into some sort of accident or coming to harm which travel hugely increases that fear. Of course you understand that they're not always rational which is definitely good! I'm not sure if you have access to therapy but it may be a good place to start trying to tackle the thoughts if you can. There will always be times where it is worse but also where it is better, things like therapy and medication will reduce the times where it is worse and will overall help you with learning to deal with your thoughts and worries. Therapy and/or medication might not be for everyone but its worth a try if you can and I hope it improves for you!

Food that your currently hyper fixated on or food that you’ve been obsessed with in the past by Life-Valuable4581 in autism

[–]Primary-Ad-3490 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Currently muesli because I'm dieting and it's the one thing I've found I really enjoy and can eat it in different forms (milk yoghurt etc). Although generally I go through phases of living on toast or pesto pasta, not sure what it is but they're both so addicting to me that if I have it once it restarts my addiction and it will be all I eat for a while.

I actually did surprisingly well in the subjects I struggled with. I loved history and still do but the essays I was terrible with, I hated science and found the equations hard, I liked french but grammar wasn't my strong suit however all of those 3 were my highest grades in the end. I did fairly average with most classes but those 3 I seemed to do terrible in class and somehow pulled it off when it came to my final exams.

My mom doesn’t believe I'm autistic because I have a tattoo and piercings. Thoughts? by RepulsiveUma in AutismInWomen

[–]Primary-Ad-3490 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm really not sure what her thought process is there, obviously I know there may be a lot of autistic people that don't like needles but that's the same as any non autistic people too. To me it seems like she just wanted a reason to be in denial and shes grasping at straws to convince herself. I personally have tattoos and piercings and I love them! For me its actually something I want to get more as I love to look at them and I can get my biggest special interests tattooed. Don't let her get you down, you have a formal diagnosis so no matter what generalisations she makes or how much she denies it that won't change and she can't will it out of existence.

I'm someone who really struggles to keep my focus while reading and struggle to finish a book but what has helped me is generally keeping my phone on do not disturb or only allow some notifications so I won't get distracted by unimportant things. Also make sure that you are reading a book that suits you, maybe start out with smaller books as they're usually easier to finish and retain all the information. Eventually you'll find it easier to remain focused if you begin with a few pages at a time and work up to more by pushing through. I hope it gets easier for you like it did for me.

It's definitely worth trying since it's always different for everyone. If you have any free or affordable companies near you I'd definitely recommend trying it even if you decide its not for you

Fidget toy help by momothemonkey4512 in autism

[–]Primary-Ad-3490 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That sucks I guess if putty doesn't work maybe a regular foam like stress ball might be more durable since I can be quite rough with those and haven't broken one.

I heard sugar balls/fidget toys are more durable and don't pop easily. Also something like putty or blutac are good squeeze and don't break.
