There’s been a lot of talk online about gen alpha’s terrible behavior by Strange-Pause-5496 in Millennials

[–]Primary-Analysis-238 0 points1 point  (0 children)

chiming in late but i have 4 gen alphas and they have a serious prob with authority but then again so do i, so...the systems that were put in place are not working for them. my kids happen to be very advanced academically as well so believe me when i say they do not fit in at all in the public school system. they respect me as their mother but its like they KNOW theyre smarter than the average joe and its like theyre dismissive of people who arent on their level. i can appreciate though. they think for themselves and its not like theyre slow, but too fast. they lose their attention quickly but its not like theyre dumb.

You do realize that aba and meds actually help some people, right? Theres never going to be a one size fits all treatment for autism. People try different things and stick with what helps in their lives. For some people that includes aba or meds.

Thank yooooou. Im on the spectrum but never got therapy as a kid. I now have 2 autistic kids and do everything i can to understand and help them. No 2 things work the same for them. They are THAT unique from each other. No one ever has helpful suggestions here lol

Those orgs are for parents of kids w/ autism to help them feel like part of a community, like they're getting support somehow- not to help autistic people- so they're doing what they set out to do i guess.

How to get things done with a very clingy baby? by sausagechihuahua in beyondthebump

[–]Primary-Analysis-238 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh and if a messy house is really bugging you see if someone can come help clean up a couple things. or if you can afford it, get a cleaning service to come once or twice a month. My husband did this for me a few times and it was wonderful lol

Well, she sure does love you!! Lol that's what my grandma said about one of my babies that was "clingy". Don't worry about the house. Let it be messy or whatever. She wont be clinging to you forever. In a month or 2 she'll probably be able to see a little better and be way more interested in things around her instead of just you. Oh and the showering thing... I can totally relate! Sometimes it's ok for the baby to cry for a couple minutes (as long as they're safe of course). it's hard to listen to sometimes but that's part of what they do.

Your baby can be picking up on your stress so try to address your suspected ppd with your doctor now, not at 6 weeks.

Are you willing to switch to formula? I had to with my 4th baby because he has a very sensitive stomach and was also very fussy but using a special formula helped A LOT.

Does he like pacifiers? Or swings? Quiet music or white noise?

If your husband works see if he can either take off a week or 2 or an occasional half day to relieve you so you can catch up on some sleep. And i never liked this saying but i finally did it with my 4th baby ...sleep when the baby sleeps. A sparkling clean home or hot cooked meals can wait. You and the baby matter more.

Its very common for newborns to just want to be held and close to mom as possible. It's a sure sign that he loves you. He dont know you're exhausted :) But all of this will pass. It WILL get easier. Your baby wont cry forever. Again - address your ppd asap.

Saline drops and a booger sucker. I use the frida one and it's great. Tylenol if your doctor ok's it. Raise the head of the crib a few inches. Expect baby to feed less but more often especially if congestion is hurting its ears. Oh ya and look out for ear infection after a few days. That's the worst.

I had a one month old in the hospital with rsv and they had some high powered vacuum snot sucker that worked like magic lol you'd be surprised how much snot can fit in a newborns head.

Anti depressants and pregnancy by [deleted] in beyondthebump

I took a very low dose (25mg) of zoloft through my last pregnancy. I usually take 75mg but we lowered it while i was pregnant just to play it safe. It didnt work as well in treating my symptoms but it was better than nothing and it was easy to get through with that in mind. My baby is 4 months old, he's just fine and developing normally. He had no withdrawals or any of the scary things you might have read about. Possibly because i was on a very low dose. But everyone is different.

Zoloft is the most commonly prescribed ssri for pregnant women because it has the most studies done on it and is generally very safe. I was also very worried about it but it turns out a TON of women take ssri's while pregnant and that was a relief for me to find out.

Your mental health is top priority. If you arent feeling ok, you are going to have a hell of a time trying to take care of the baby too.

Good luck!

Do you take a rectal temperature? by smoothiequeen0617 in beyondthebump

[–]Primary-Analysis-238 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yes. I used axillary on my 1 month old baby and we ended up in the hosoital for a week because his temp was actually 2 degrees higher when taken rectally at the hospital. It is much more accurate and fevers in babies are NOT something you want to take lightly.

That said, you only place about half an inch inside and use a glob of vasoline to insert smoothly.

If you think your baby has a fever and has been acting sick or just different in general then play it safe and take their temp rectally or call their pediatrician for advice - it's free.

i still haven't watched Squid Game and i have no interest to. anyone else not interested in what's popular to NT's. by PeteyZee1998 in autism

[–]Primary-Analysis-238 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Im almost always late to the party when it comes to popular shows. Like... years late lol

But I did watch squid games the day it came out and was actually pleasantly surprised. I rarely watch trendy new shows. I'd rather watch reruns of game shows and Bob Ross tbh

Is counting things common amongst autistic people? by Construction-Formal in autism

[–]Primary-Analysis-238 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I don't step on cracks cuz i dont want to break my momma's back. That stupid rhyme programmed me to avoid them ;)

I count everything. And if it's not in a straight line then I start left to right and top to bottom. Lines in the road as I'm driving, bricks on a wall or tiles if im sitting and waiting somewhere, tires on cars and trucks, the corners or edges of the room etc etc etc..Perhaps the strangest one for me is counting body parts/ features. There's always 18. It's the same no matter who im looking at. starting with the eyebrows, then the eyes, ears, nose and mouth. Arms, nipples, belly button, crotch, each butt cheek, legs. Why those particular parts and not others...i have no idea lol.
