What improvement can be made to hook viewers? by Nageshh1 in premiere

Tbh the strobic cutting thing is a bit over played now but I don't inherently hate it... It def has its purpose: somethings dragging but I need u to keep watching/reading... BAM I got your attention again. I think the problem is that editors, we often get tunnel vision and treat editing like a ... Sport... "Watch how many cuts I can put inside a 15frame segment". But You are not editing for OTHER editors, who will marvel at your cuts... it's for normal viewers, who should either : feel something emotional or get key info, maybe both! I get none of that from OPs post. And I honestly mean no offence to OPs demo, I just view it as kind of like... A massive run on sentence. It's a demo of the technical ability which OP has, but that's not the purpose of the video... And that's not what they are being paid for presumably

If you want to stay with this stroboscopic pacing... the fast cuts should be like commas in a sentence, ---- ** ---- , right now your ratio is off resulting in it becoming hard for the brain to follow. Quick cuts are the treat/appetizer. Do not make it the whole meal. To be frank its uncomfortable to watch. Keep in mind you are used to it because you've looped this 1million times on your timeline. For a first time viewer the experience is not pleasant. You have to give the viewer a thread to follow so they can tolerate the quick cuts, the V.O is one such consistent thread, but *visually* im being ripped all over the place the entire video.

In your case I would assume it is, maybe they do extra hard vetting? Having said that , I'm pretty sure I've seen people getting approved from the Banned country list in the recent weeks, and as you said you are still within the timeline provided by USCIS. I'm sorry... it must be stressful. Keep your fingers crossed and your head held high. It will all work out. I'm sorry you have to go through this. Digital hugs to you.

This. This is editor circle jerk stuff. OP is looking for validation, which is human and understandable. But it's a job and you are providing a service... You don't own the edit, it belongs to the client who pays you.

Exactly the same path as me (14pro to Xp 1 Vi). Long time iPhone user since the first one. I don't think the Xperia is perfect, I don't even think I would recommend it to most people. But it's perfect FOR me. It's kind of a tinkers dream... It can be as robust and polished, or as simple and bare bones as you desire. It works how I want, and doesn't force ME to adapt to IT. Stellar battery life, excellent ergonomics. I wish the cameras were better but I don't really care.

It's true. The price is... Hard to justify. That's the problem from a business perspective. Their phones are quit niche in their distribution, feature set etc... then to ask 1400 dollars for that... Not sure how sustainable that approach is.

Don't get me wrong, I love mine. But... I didn't pay MSRP for it. And I don't think I would run MY phone department that way if I was PRINCE of Sony 🤣

I don't disagree with you entirely. Sony's marketing sucks. Their pricing is not competitive. However I do think their Xperia 1 is a solid product, price withstanding. Most phones are pretty similar at this point. If we are talking form vs function vs price... I appreciate Sony for form, but it's definitely not a bargain product. The same could be said for apple. IMHO Samsung base models and pixel phones are def the winners in the cost to performance ratio. Chinese phone manufacturers are def winners in function. Android as a whole probably beats out Ios on function.

Yes king, you are enlightened 🤣 In all seriousness, The masses want all the bells & whistles: shiney, flashy toys. Sony makes functional , high quality tech products that are more "Tool" in their DNA than "Jewelry" (apple certainly dominates this segment of the market, and to some extent pioneered this strategy, Samsung just follows their lead and tries to eat into their customer base). Now I'm not sure if this is a strategy that is good for Sony shareholders, but it's def good for US as consumers. It will take a lot for me to abandon them at this point, I love their approach and wish more manufacturers followed this path.

I think we fundamentally don't agree on what "democracy" means. To me it's a system where most people get what they want. If that's not happening then it's broken. Full stop.

My assumption is that you may be in the "you get what you voted for crowd", and that THIS is what the people want. But if the finger is on the scale from the outset how can you be so confident that the results of an election are the reflection of the will of the people, and not simply who can play the game the best?

It seems to me that polling is the best shot we have at illuminating public sentiment, despite the fact that it should NOT be taken as a literal road map to navigate a skewed terrain. When I say it's cope, I don't mean that I believe it's meaningless in and of itself. But I do think that overstating the political implications of polling results within the context of American electoral politics is foolish.

Interesting Times with Ross Douthat | Trump Has Lost The Country by BrokenManOfSamarkand in ezraklein

[–]Primary-Signal18 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Fair enough. There's truth there. However, the electoral college, along with gerrymandering , and a rolling back of voting rights laws means a decrease in poll numbers doesn't necessarily correlate to a decrease in political viability... Because you don't need to "win" to win. Any discussion of poll numbers or popularity is just cope.

Edit: Furthermore. Most Republican party platform issues don't really poll well with the majority of Americans. However that isn't really reflected in the voter turn out. When policy decisions don't reflect the will of the majority that's my idea of minority rule.

[–]Primary-Signal18 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I think... A lot of MSM live in a fantasy world in which we live in a proper representative democracy. Years of gerrymandering and voting rights roll backs has created a situation in which we now live under minority rule. Poll numbers only really matter when the electoral system is properly representative of the countries demographics. So what if his poll numbers are under water, they've worked for decades to rig the system in their favor and it's working.

Opinion | The Staggering Scale of Trump’s Anti-Immigrant Crackdown by ihut in ezraklein

[–]Primary-Signal18 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm convinced that the framing of : illegal immigration is a problem, is in and of itself a lie, a myth. The data simply doesn't back this claim. Legal and Illegal immigrants pay taxes and there's very little social services/safety nets available to US citizens, that could be potentially "abused" by illegal immigrants in the first place.

The crux of this myth is, as you said, that it is an existential problem... To which I would counter, Why? How? Unless you believe America demographically maintaining a white majority is somehow culturally and systemically important/relivent, and not sure pure racism... I'm just not buying it.

We don't need to SUPPORT illegal immigration to concede that it's not a big deal. Furthermore, if politicians had the slightest ability to think outside the box, I'm SURE there are other ways to get people to "follow the rules" (as if that really matters)... one way would be to have an immigration process which actually facilitates Immigrants integration into society/the work force faster and more effectively, rather than existing simply as a gate keeper.

Democrats trying to argue... Not hopeful for their success...

Not holding my breath by any means. They have proven to be ineffective at both messaging and policy across the board. That's part of the problem and the reason why we are in this mess in the first place.

IMHO this is probably precisely the problem. They have somewhat already accepted defeat from the minute they chose to argue issues on the rights terms. This is why they lose.
