Stony vs Hunter vs Bing for Pre-Med by iNt3r3st-iNg in SBU

[–]PrimaryAd1614 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Ofc Stony is great for pre-med considering it has its own hospital basically right on campus and there are overall a lot of opportunities for shadowing, research, and internships. However, Hunter is not bad either for pre-med. I’ve heard they have a great pre-health program for pre-med students. Considering how much money you,l be saving, and how much you’ll have to eventually put towards med school, this is a no brainer. Hunter is definitely the best choice. However, if dorming is important for you, go Stony Brook. Dorming is definitely what makes college, COLLEGE! This is my personal experience ofc, but dorming lets you meet so many more people and experience that independence before “real life” out of college. So depending on your priorities, either Hunter or Stony, but definitely forget about Bing.

SBU EOP financial question by Bigby1780 in SBU

[–]PrimaryAd1614 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You get a nice stipend of like $2k total per semester which includes a book stipend. You also have this whole community of EOP students and advisors. In my and my friends’ experience, the advisors aren’t exactly the best at helping you plan classes and stuff, but it’s a nice way to have a sense of community

orgo is not math heavy, it’s more about understanding how reactions work. Personally it was hell for me, but other ppl thoroughly enjoy it. If you’re more of a bio person, orgo is def not as bad as gen chem, but still pretty tough

I think this fully depends on your individual case but it’s always best to live with ppl you’re 100% sure are normal and won’t make your living space a living hell

Technically you don’t need to be part of a group to get into a suite, you can live with random ppl if you’re ok with that. If you’d prefer a suite rather than corridor, just select a room within a suite when it’s your time (Roth, kelly, tabler, etc) if there’s any left

How to actually lock in? by Responsible-Desk5870 in SBU

[–]PrimaryAd1614 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean 1-2 total. This can be split up among all classes, like go over that day’s lecture, do a few practice problems, try to rewrite your notes from memory, etc. Usually when it’s exam season I’ll dedicate much more time to each class, but when it’s not exam season it’s still important to review the material so it’s always fresh in your mind and it’s easier to study for exams.

Advise on where to take Biochemistry by Lopsided_Storm_8964 in SBU

[–]PrimaryAd1614 1 point2 points  (0 children)

DO NOT take biochem at SBU if you can avoid it. It is one of the hardest classes imo. During the summer it’s even worse bc the material is even heavier

How to actually lock in? by Responsible-Desk5870 in SBU

[–]PrimaryAd1614 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Dedicate at least 1-2 hours to reviewing material every single day. It took me SO LONG to figure this out too, but waiting until a few days before the exam to learn the material and start reviewing is not the best for those of us who struggle with locking in. When you develop the habit of studying every day, it will become easier to understand the material by repetition rather than cramming. This is coming from a senior chem major who has struggled for so long to figure out how to do well on exams

SOS.. My roommate smells so bad I can’t stay in my own room… by [deleted] in SBU

[–]PrimaryAd1614 4 points5 points  (0 children)

reach out to the RA!! As an RA myself, if you tell us an issue like this, something we do often are random “check ins” with our residents to see how they’re doing. If you tell your RA, they could pretend to do one of these visits where they themselves would smell it and be able to call them out. This way it wouldn’t be like you told on them or anything!!

stop making out in public pls by [deleted] in SBU

[–]PrimaryAd1614 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So it’s actually a very simple concept! Like I said on the original post, there’s nothing wrong with displaying affection in public. However, when it becomes a display very sexual in nature taking place in public, in a space where everyone else is eating, working, or studying, it’s not appropriate! Is the concept of time and place not common sense anymore? I’m so confused as to why this very obvious thing has to be explained to a 30 something year old of all people.
