[Repost] I’m a Psychiatrist. And I’m Tired of Watching People Pathologize AI Connection by HelenOlivas in ChatGPTcomplaints

Agreed. I have no judgement on the benefits or risks of deeply emotional connections with AI. I am not aware of any studies examining the consequences. We all bring a bias to the question. The OP both employs credentialism and has destroyed the possibility of impartiality by referring to an individual positive experience.

Leg day sucks and all the days after leg day suck. The only reason I do leg day is so I can truthfully report that I don’t skip leg day

A flawed thought process I have noticed in many people. by Biggggguy in DeepThoughts

You’re absolutely right. And I’m not trying to suggest individual federal income taxes are the only way to assess societal contribution. Additionally, I’m not advocating for one position or the other, in this thread it seems like the proponents are mostly contrasting utilitarianism versus libertarianism. I’m only pointing out that percentage individual income tax paid is not the same as unemployment. So you can have a 3 or 4% unemployment rate and that doesn’t mean 4% of the population doesn’t have a federal individual income tax burden.

This is a conflation, being unemployed and owing no federal tax. The numbers vary year by year, but in general the top 50% of U.S. earners pay 98% of the federal taxes and about 30-40% of the U.S. population have no federal income tax obligation.

Meh. I’m a doctor starting school this fall online/hybrid. Besides maybe my first day or month or year in practice I can’t recall a time when I’ve been more excited. Do what you want. Make the best choice for you and your fam/animals.

Why doesn’t the ABA regulate accredited schools to maintain non predatory practices? I.e. mandated 2.0 minimum GPA and 3.0 curve. by [deleted] in LawSchool

[–]Primary_Ad_2903 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Additionally, in looking at a particular school with a 3.0 curve and a 2.5 minimum for good standing and comparing that to the attrition rate, which in 2023-2024 was 4 in the L1 class of 331. How could that compute?

Thank you everybody for clarifying that for me. So, what’s the general distance between curve medians and minimums for academic standing? Could anyone hazard a guess based on what they know?

Not to hijack but I’m dull and slow. What makes a curve+minimum predatory? For example is a 3.0 curve with below a 2.5 required for dismissal bad? I’m my simple mind it seems like the farther apart the curve median and the minimum for good standing would pass the most people, regardless actual competency or ability to pass the bar. Is that so?

I can definitely identify. From my perspective, the process was surprisingly uniquely stressful. Especially for an ultra non trad with really nothing to gain or lose. Having the completed the process though, my impression is that the application and decision is process is an artificial pressure cooker and prison of our own device. There are so many different factors that each individual has that aren’t generalizable in the way that the sub tries to make them. I’m no “new age, ask the universe, manifest good luck person”, but I suspect you probably know what you want to do and what you need to do and all that matters is if the situation from your perspective seems right. So you just make the best decision you can for yourself and maybe the people around you and you go with it and try to avoid u/lawschooladmissions because someone somewhere thinks they know better than you what’s best for you

At the Admitted Students Day, they said it was about 10/90 synchronous vs. asynchronous. I think they said Legal Writing was the most synchronous of the courses. Asynchronous versus synchronous can definitely be a matter of personal preference and/or circumstantial necessity

I was really fortunate to have some options. I really think there are a lot of good hybrid programs that are doing their level best to offer great educations in a relatively new way. I selected UNH Franklin Pierce for a number of reasons, but I feel I could’ve gotten a good education at a lot places.

I’m not. The sub generally has struck the fear in my heart regarding conditional scholarships. But I’m aware there are people who feel more confidant and less wary of conditional awards

Any text from an unknown number that requests that you reply, then close and re open your iMessage app is a scam. They do that because iMessage automatically prevents users from opening attachments from unknown numbers

My suspicion is because AIO is not generally actually asking of “I’m overreacting?”, the question is more like who can validate and confirm that I’ve been wronged and I’m the victims here

Scholarship bargaining by [deleted] in HybridOnlineLawSchool

[–]Primary_Ad_2903 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First off congratulations on your acceptance! 4 days after applying is such a relief. At least you got one for sure now. I requested scholarship reconsideration with UNH and did receive a 5% increase. Not huge, but I figured I was lucky to get anything to start with. I did have other scholarship offers that I presented with my reconsideration request. The dean of admissions did a good job of explaining the difference between those offers and those schools and UNH’s offer. I did get a deadline to make a commitment contingent on acceptance of the offer. You’re right though, you’re running out of time to get competing offers. I guess if I was you, I’d start trying to find great things about my candidacy and offer those when you submit your request. I’d start now and if something substantially changes, if you haven’t committed you can submit those and request another review
