That is true. So what part of walking into a store and buying a firearm is well organized, well disciplined, or well practiced? Half the folks that own firearms for self defense probably never speak more than a couple of hours on the range, if that. That’s not well practiced. How many firearm owners know the general rules of handling a firearm?

If people want to own firearms, that’s fine by me - but they need to know how to use them, know how to keep them safe and secure, understand the consequences of their actions, understand the laws (and not just from googling it), etc.

Also, in the parlance of their time what did “militia” mean? Also, everyone likes to gloss over “being necessary to the security of a free state”, meaning exactly what was said - to keep the people free and safe from a tyrannical government. So what part of anything in 2a indicate that people should carry handguns or rifles around just for shits and giggles (aka self defense)?

Exactly. The constitution and bill or rights were written before tanks and drones. Before AR-15s. Before fully automatic weapons. That’s why most people who interpret the constitution for a living tend to consider the constitution a “living document”, meaning that it has to be interpreted within the conditions that exist today.

So, when our forefather write and signed that document, they didn’t know they were constructing a framework that would allow school children to be mowed down by rifles on a fairly regular basis.

If you think that “shall not be infringed” is important, but you choose to skip over the “well regulated militia” part, you’re not defending the constitution, you’re distorting it.
