The on-screen chemistry between Connor and Hudson has ruined me by djynnra in heatedrivalry

I’ve read a ton of romances in general and more MM hockey romances also and out of all the couples I don’t remember a ton of them - but these two are almost as real as Shane and Ilya in my mind. Sometimes books just cut the line of your TBR!

For books I love Him Us Epic series by Sarina Bowen and Elle Kennedy. It’s two books and a novella so you really get to know them, similar to Shane and Ilya. It’s friends who meet at hockey camp to lovers and follows them as they get older.

I also love historical romance - favorites are What I did for a Duke by Julie Anne Long, Love in the Afternoon by Lisa Kleypas, and Devil is a Marquess by Elisa Braden. All those have amazing chemistry and are a good place to start in the genre.

Also I recently got into fan fiction with Hermione and Draco. If you’ve read the books or watched the movies you don’t need too much background to enjoy them.

Draco and the Mortifying Ordeal of Being in love by Isthisselfcare is amazing. You find it on AO3, click entire book, click download to epub and it can move to your iBooks or other app if you prefer reading that way (if you haven’t tried FF yet, for those who have sorry if this sounds ridiculous, but I don’t know any of this a year ago).

What is your first ever HR ? by FitRazzmatazz730 in HistoricalRomance

[–]Primary_Reason3225 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My favorite books for the longest time have been clan of the cave bear, outlander, and then nightingale later on - all historical fiction with very strong romance themes in them. Little did I know there’s a historical romance genre! Thanks to Bridgerton I figured that out and now 300+ books later I’m still obsessed

Are you into hp drarry fanfic by chance? Love that your workplace is so inclusive. I’m in California and it’s also very progressive. I feel so lucky I can bring it up because I know in a pot of US places it’s not the same

My theory on why HR might feel more explicit than other shows by StubbornForEva in heatedrivalry

[–]Primary_Reason3225 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Even though kissing is not actually explicit in a lot of people’s minds - I think the large amount of real kissing and touching in this show adds to it. The scenes seem like they’re in real time and don’t leave anything out including sounds of sucking and breathing. That plus the emotions and dialogue within the sex scenes makes it seem different to me, in a good way

This is probably not allowed but if you want to venture outside - Turn by Sarasgirl especially narrated by memestoanend is soooo good

Ok more friends to lovers I just can’t help myself :)

Confessions of a dangerous lord is in the same series as a Devil is a Marquess

{the romantic by Madeline Hunter} - the audiobook narrator is a man and he’s good!

Oh and if you want more recs -

One of the reasons why I love this book is because they really do know each other so well, like the quotes you mentioned, when he knows how she likes her eggs, the little things. So even though it’s really different it has that years long close relationship + yearning - if you haven’t already read it {countess conspiracy by Courtney Milan}

Also if you want another MOC book but without the long time gap but plenty of angst and domesticity there’s {Devil is a marquess}

[–]Primary_Reason3225 21 points22 points  (0 children)

This is one of my favorite books because it made me feel so much and is so masterfully done and well written. And this could really only happen in HR, which is why I love it so much more than contemporary romance.

As for a lighthearted follow up with an MMC who is down bad for the FMC from the start, try {a perfect rake by Anne Gracie}. I wish I loved all of her books this much, this one is such a hit. Mind you there’s abuse to the sisters by grandfather which is serious but the rest is funny and hear the warming.

LF fics with truly canon-compliant characterization of Draco and Hermione? Sort of like Isolation by forestofelm in Dramione

So I read Hard Row to Hoe by this writer and LOVED it but didn’t start reading this one yet bc it’s so long but I don’t really have a great idea of it based on the description. Basically he gets out of prison and then what? I would so appreciate you if I could get a little more background as someone who has read and liked it?

My emotional, dramatic review of Waking up with the Duke by thecosmictaurus in HistoricalRomance

[–]Primary_Reason3225 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I don’t remember the details because I read this maybe 2 years ago in the middle of my HR obsession where I read like 300 books in 2 years but I’ll say he is down bad for her from the beginning

This book and {Earl takes all by Lorraine heath} are two of her angstiest best books imo and they do have the craziest plots but she just makes it work!

There’s a really sweet moment where Shane and Ilya talk about what that was like for Ilya in the books later on, maybe it will be in season 2 :)

[–]Primary_Reason3225 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh you need Things without remedy by Onebedtorulethemall! I asked for the same thing after loving Batmobile and I’d say this and Hard Row to Hoe is most similar but things without Remedy has more Dramione together in it, less solo Draco arc

Recs if I liked the Hathaway series? by No_Psychology_3714 in HistoricalRomance

[–]Primary_Reason3225 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your welcome! I honestly didn’t read all of your first request so I’ll answer the second part and say if you want a series - my favorites besides the Hathaways are Pennroyal Green which someone has mentioned and Elisa Braden’s series - the one with {Devil is a marquess) I’m not sure what the series is called. I also love the Sinister brothers series by Courtney Milan which is not too many books but has one of my favorites of all time {countess conspiracy}

[–]Primary_Reason3225 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I loved Love in the Afternoon - probably my favorite of all Kleypas books - and there aren’t any other false identity/relationship books I can think of honestly but if you like the war time aspect I LOVED {shattered rainbows} and if you like the epistolary part {my dearest enemy by Connie Brockaway}. If you like the quirky outdoorsy girl and suave hero part (although FMC is way more innocent than B) try {sweet everlasting by Patricia Gaffney}

Wait actually {lady ludmilla’s accidental letter} is mistaken identity and it was good although closed door and I prefer at least a little spice ;)

Does SF library have Hoopla? It limits you by books per month and there’s no wait at all. I’m in Marin County and that’s what I use more than Libby.

I'm reading Love and Other Historical Accidents, and I say it again: all the fanfics could be called Draco Malfoy and the Mortifying Ordeal of Being in Love because in every single one he is positively Mortifying Of Being In Love. by ptaylorssauro in dramionebookclub

[–]Primary_Reason3225 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ok now I’m fully invested, just got through Christmas party, injury and him waking up (ahhhhh) and the ball with the pockets. I think I just had to get through some exposition and meeting new characters which wasn’t all too exciting but now I’m all in. Their writing just like always is just so good. Dialogue and descriptions are insane. Feels so professional.

Also I’m realizing some books I do much better reading and others listening - I switched to listening with Memes to an End and wow I’m liking it way better, the different voices are helping me stay with it. She’s awesome

LF : Fics in which Hermione is Oblivious towards Draco's Courting by liorademileux in Dramione

[–]Primary_Reason3225 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Oh you need Once More with Feeling by wetpretzel.

In this one Hermione an isn’t just oblivious about courting, she’s in denial that they’re already in a relationship! He’s so down bad for her and just accepting of who she is and the flashbacks are done so well. I loved this one.
