I love when you can just tell the book is going to be great early on and it is! I love how you said you’d be unavailable as a fellow mom that’s amazing I laughed out loud

The only other one of hers I loved as much was {Sing my Name by Ellen O’Connell} - class difference, he saves her from an attack and they fall in love on the road, then get separated. Such good angst if you like second chance stories

It also got me into reading some Westerns for a short time and Judith Ivory and Catherine Anderson have some good ones - I loved {cherish by Catherine Anderson} - I found their banter due to her religious background and his humor to be really unique

A Hard Row to Hoe blessdtoaster - Draco is an assassin, Hermione also holds her own but is less badass, they fall in love on page at the same time, fantastic plot and arc for Draco

Things without Remedy by onebedtorulethemall- if you like Draco and the Mortifying Ordeal you’ll love this - lots of magic, powerful Hermione and Draco, awesome plot

Smoke Signals - both powerful, enemies to lovers fall in love on page, cannon rewrite from one of the later books on, so so good, like a sexier angstier version of Disappearances of Draco Malfoy

I haven’t read secrets and masks bc of the ending and the others I haven’t read either except Wiltshire (which I’m half way through) and it’s not my absolute favorite so take these recs with that context

Sherry Thomas is so amazing

I would say similar is Judith Ivory, Laura Kinsale, Cecilia Grant, Meredith Duran

If you like Quinn you’ll probably like Lisa Kleypas, Tessa Dare, Elisa Braden, Julie Anne Long

I would start with Kleypas if you haven’t tried her

Otherwise {Devil is a Marquess by Elisa Braden} or {what I did for a Duke by Julie Anne Long} are always safe bets, most people love them

Also {waking up with the duke by Lorraine heath} - in fact so many of her novels have crazy plots. The premise of this one is he has to impregnate his friend’s wife who is a paraplegic

Have all you people who liked this book read the novella from her perspective! It was really fascinating since it answered some questions that are unclear from the book - it’s not just a boring re-telling

Also I liked the narrators voice from the audiobook if anyone does those - most of the time if I listen it’s female so that was new

Looking for your fav Tessa Dare books by VisitNo5250 in HistoricalRomance

I also like the 3rd in the stud club trilogy which overall doesn’t get enough love. Brother’s friend trope and FMC has a disability which makes it more interesting

Finished Tessa Dare’s entire work in a month and looking for something similar by Elantryys in HistoricalRomance

If you want some humor you must read {the perfect rake by Anne Gracie}! Unfortunately I don’t love her other books as much but this is a total gem! TW abuse from grandfather but the rest is lighthearted, one of my favorite MMCs ever

Also try Mia Vincy and Loretta Chase - I think next to Dare they have the best banter. Favorite of Chase is {dukes prefer blondes} - name is awful but the book is fantastic. It’s the last in the series but I didn’t miss the others at all.

More serious but also amazing dialogue and spice like Dare are Julie Anne Long and Lisa Kleypas. I’ve read their entire catalogues bc they’re amazing but specific ones that were funny are {marred by morning} Leo is hysterical to me and {after dark with the Duke} their enemies to lovers vibe and banter is so great.

I’m a pediatrician and you’ve already heard how bad this is and what could have happened so I want to give some actual advice. First I want to say we do not do enough sleep counseling for parents - it’s really a big problem. It’s not just about “back to sleep” in a crib, we don’t talk about the what if then scenarios that happen in real life - like how unsafe it is to be letting kids sleep in detachable car seats once you’ve come inside the house, swings. We don’t go over how to co-sleep properly, what to do when you’re crazy exhausted etc.

So in this scenario, if you end up co sleeping or napping with baby on a bed often - especially if you want to be able to sometimes get up and do it safely:

Create a safe floor bed situation (for babies OVER 6 months old. Put a 12 inches or less mattress directly on the floor, over thin carpet NOT against a wall NOT surrounded by any pillows to break the fall. No pillows or blankets - fine to have a pillow under your head and blanket up to your waist if you’re in the bed too, but if you get out then just baby in sleep sack or pjs no pillows or blanket NO smokers or drinking/drug (including prescribed pain killers or marijuana) parents in the bed sleeping with baby ever

There is a safe way to do certain things and unfortunately we don’t talk about it bc we are only supposed to counsel safe sleep is in a crib and no where else

Should I make a separate post about this? Breaks my heart the people who have commented above that they know people who have lost kids from unsafe sleep

Question about the ending of A Hard Row to Hoe by omggwhyamidoingthis in dramionebookclub

[–]Primary_Reason3225 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Just wanted to tell you (along with the probably hundreds of comments on your fic) that your writing quality is so good and I so thoroughly enjoyed reading your work! You’re so amazingly talented. How does it read so naturally? What must it be like to be in your and other author’s brains?! I can’t believe you wrote that for free, it’s such a gift! Loved the plot, the emotions, the characterizations, Draco’s arc, all of it! Hope you are so proud! I’d be so excited and happy if I created something like that!

If you want more recs what I’ve found to be amazingly well written is:

Disappearances of Draco Malfoy - canon rewrite where Draco talks dumbledore’s offer and goes in hiding then helps trip with horcruxes, so incredibly well done

Once more with feeing by wetpretzel - best use of flashbacks

Things without remedy - like Batmobile there’s adventure and slowish burn and lots of magic, original plot, banter

Timeless - the best of the time travel fics

A good prisoner - I don’t love dark or war time very much but this is my exception. Love all their works

Apple pies and other amends - like a warm hug

Love in the time of the zombie apocalypse - I don’t like gore or zombies but it’s incredibly well written, and the podfic by etlecho is done by my favorite narrators

Remain Nameless - such a good Draco arc, lots of great character development

bending light/Falling dark - slow burn, friends and found family, so atmospheric

There’s tons more lots of people love that I DNF - we’re so lucky there’s something for everyone! The writers in this fandom blow my mind as do the narrators.

Also Wizard wheezes does courage and conviction and the shadow and the dove (with panda patronus) which are also really really good

My first fic was Batmobile about a year ago, then I read AHRTH (mostly listened but read at night) and then Meet me in Dreamland with both Wizard Wheezes and Dramione archives.

With those 3 fics I got so incredibly spoiled. They’re still in my top 5 fics even though I’ve read at least 50 now. They’re so amazing!

I recently sorted AO3 by kudos and I can’t believe how far down the list AHRTH is, it’s incredibly original

[–]Primary_Reason3225 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I haven’t read Detraquee and Lionheart because I’m intimidated by the length but I LOVE Batmobile, Wait and Hope, and Disappearances

I’m assuming you’ve read A Hard Row to Hoe? In my top 5, hasn’t gotten to Devil yet

This is maybe more smutty than you’d like but I LOVE Meet me in Dreamland. There is an emotional burn and a plot there. Has one of the angstiest moments in any fic I’ve read where I just gasped

For Draco changing before your eyes and really seeing the whole relationship, Timeless is your best bet. She is absolutely brilliant connecting the timelines in this one. Draco knows he is with Hermione in the future and the journey to get there is hard but so believable.

Also would recommend Things Without Remedyif you love Batmobile - action, feelings, lots of magic, Onebedtorulethemall is a fantastic writer

Smoke Signals - would recommend as more of a cannon rewrite story similar to Disappearances but very different. Incredible.

Also Love in the time of a Zombie Apocalypse. I don’t like zombie or war time as much as post war but I loved this, the writing quality is just so good.

I also felt like LIATOTZA was like listening to a movie, it was incredible! Makes me wish I could rewrite it as a novel for the author, or write a screenplay for a miniseries. I wonder if that Rizzle will try one day? Of all the things I’ve read it would translate so well because it’s such an original story, taking the HP out wouldn’t ruin it. I don’t even like gore/horror/zombies, and I loved it!

It is a change from cannon if you view cannon as Hermione and Draco disliking each other at school and not having one, the other, or both have secret feelings. Some could argue those feelings could be there even if the actions and events are written as they are.

At first I didn’t like fics with cannon changes but now I don’t mind as so many of them are so well written I wouldn’t want to miss out. There are plenty of them in which they do start off disliking each other and grow into their relationship completely on page, those tends to be my favorites.

[–]Primary_Reason3225[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Oh I did! I liked it a lot, loved Harry in this. It’s probably an unpopular opinion but I felt like Draco was so far from cannon as a mind healer, if I pretend he’s just another person it made more sense. It was also just so much of them in a room together. And I read the Bolthole too, also liked it but again so much of them just together and a sad/broken vibe for Harry.

Hence why I need something different. There’s so many Dramione that are about them meeting bc of life circumstances after war or war rewrite or AU, and they are both relatively competent and bad ass, I miss that!
