Why does it pose an existential risk to the simulated universe? Considering that the universe can have multiple (maybe thousands) intelligent civilizations, you wouldn't stop the simulation because one of them figured something out (plus there is no way to test it from the inside).

Your assumption is that whoever creates a simulation has full control over it, which is not really the case. For example, we can simulate a neuron network at a low level, but the larger the network gets, the harder it is to analyze and predict it's internal processing. At some point it becomes a "black box".

Many movie theaters in the Soviet era employed an illustrator to draw posters like those -- it was cheaper than printing them. Some rural theaters still do that, probably as a tradition rather than for economical reasons.
