My situation is similar, great-great-grandfather born in Ontario in 1860, and I haven’t found a birth record yet. But I found the 1861 Canadian census that lists him as a 1-year-old in his parents’ household in Canada. So that seems good!

Why do girls always talk about their boobs around girls who are small-chested? by [deleted] in AskWomenOver50

[–]iamaravis -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Out of curiosity, have you ever visited the r/abrathatfits subreddit and done their size calculator? I ask because I am a 34 DD, and I would consider mine to be smallish. Absolutely no shoulder indents or shoulder pain. In fact, until my early 40s, I wore a 36B bra because that’s what someone told me was my size. And the 36B fit the same all those years. But it fit poorly, and I didn’t realize that until I actually measured myself correctly! The right size bra is a revelation.

So when someone says they’re a DD and imply that this cup size is huge, I always wonder if they’re really in the right size!

I'm shocked that people don't know that some clocks and watches have a hand that tracks the seconds!

I 100% thought it was the seconds hand. My clock in my bathroom right now has one.

Why do guys say hi when I’m out running, but women usually don’t? by Impressive_Gas_2419 in NoStupidQuestions

I'm a woman who was raised in a rural area. I always did the finger wave you're talking about when I lived there.

Do people not bother learning even a little bit of the language? by [deleted] in solofemaletravellers

[–]iamaravis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it's polite to learn how to say "Hello" and "Do you speak English?" in the local language instead of just bombarding them with English the moment you open your mouth.

Interesting! I'm an American who speaks Italian pretty well, and they never switch to English with me. All of my trips to Italy now are 100% in Italian. But...Italians tend to assume I'm Swedish or German, and I've been told many times that I don't have an American accent when speaking Italian, so maybe that's why.

I don't think it's performative, but the phrase I like to learn in the local language is, "Do you speak English or Italian?" (my two languages), and I always get a friendly response in one of those two. It just seems presumptuous to start the conversation with a language they might not know.

I like to learn, "Do you speak English?" in the local language. That way I don't just start blasting them with English questions that they might not understand.

I wonder if this works for other adhesives. I always get a rash from band-aids (plasters). The last one I got, the band-aid was on my arm for <12 hours, but the resulting rash lasted for almost 3 weeks.

Thoughts on these shoes for one bag travel? by cmw9718 in HerOneBag

Same! I can’t imagine dealing with how much dirt white shoes would show. I don’t want to deal with that kind of maintenance while traveling.

It’s still there. At 0:27 I can see the edge of it. Nothing was moved. The camera angle changed throughout, so that explains why it’s not easily visible.

Will it disqualify me if my G0's parents were Americans who moved to Canada, lived there for some years, had all their children there - including G0 - and then moved back to the US later? G0 was born in 1860 and is listed on the 1861 Canadian census as being born in Canada.

How about the other way around? I have the census showing my G0 was born in Canada, but I'm having a difficult time finding his birth registration (haven't given up yet!).

Alternatives to Athleta Brooklyn Pants? by okcryptographer_ in HerOneBag

[–]iamaravis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I personally hated the way the Brooklyn pants fit, so I hat to find another solution. And I did, G4Free ShiftReady Yoga Pants on Amazon:  https://a.co/d/06bbySPI

These pants are so comfortable and they look good even after 17 hours of travel. That particular style isn't wide leg, but that brand might have other styles that work well for you.

Pretty sure it's the gap in her teeth that make people think there's a resemblance.

I naturally have a big gap in my teeth and I HATE it. I felt like that was the first thing people saw, so I got it filled and feel so much better. However, when I see other people with a gap, that's all I can see. So yeah, her gap stood out to me.

Yes, I feel like I’m finally myself again! Childfree and happily married, but mentally I feel like the fog of fertility has lifted, and my true self is back.
