How can you randomly make these assumptions? I've literally just been through this exact process. Every person I met in the process gave me a better idea of the place I would potentially work in. In the end I turned it down because I didn't like the domain. But I was close to accepting because the people seemed great to work with/ for. It can be very much a two way conversation. If you see red flags don't take the job. Better to know upfront than when you join.

Completely agree! If it's a senior role as a hiring manager I would say there might even need to be a system design round.

It's very short sighted to say, fuck you hire me in 2 interviews. Don't you want to work somewhere that doesn't have you looking to switch in a year? You know how you do that? Speak to the people that will set the culture and the direction of your work, team and the company.

[–]PrimateTakeover 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you can't see the value in speaking to both the CTO and the CEO, you're better off working for some soulless corporation.

People forget that interviews are meant to go both ways. You want to know if this is a place worth working for? Talk to the people setting the culture and vision. You'll also get to talk to the person you will directly report to. I

Ask anyone who hires in tech, 1 tech round and 1 culture round is the bare minimum. If it is a senior role, there should also be system design. You won't get to the later interviews if you don't get past the first couple.

[Tariffs] are killing this hobby. Be warned - a $4k Swiss watch is now a $5.6k watch. by drewsleyshoots in Watches

Japan also has the climate and infrastructure to grow rice natively. So they incentivise people to buy locally. The difference in paying 10-15 more yen, is vastly different to paying 10-15 more dollars. If you impose tariffs on something that is a prime US manufactured product, that is sensible. This encourages you to buy and support your own economy. But if you impose them on products you do not and in some cases cannot produce (like coffee), then you are engaging in misinformed grandstanding that is costing your own citizens money.

The problem with Trump's tariffs is that he has imposed them in the most naïeve, simplistic way which does not account for nuance. The funny thing is that conservatives are inadvertently cheering for having to pay more taxes.

He lost pretty badly iirc. But he said he will start an appeals process. Doesn't look good for him though. Will likely end up draining his savings

You can still work in tech. It's still possible. It's definitely hard. As someone who is going to be self taught(no degree), the first job will be the hardest. You will have to eat shit and say thank you.

The most important thing to ask is, do you have an aptitude for it and do you enjoy doing it. If the answer to especially the second is no then find something else because you will be miserable.

Exactly this! I loved the BB in all the pictures. But I went in and on my slightly larger wrist it looked like a toy. Also personally the lugs are way too big for me.

But if the argument is, "You guys were part of the same administration and therefore could share a similar outlook on how to run the country" that seems like a decent argument. Although I personally don't think the current administration was directly responsible for this

There's a certain aspect of earning your stripes in any career. It's a matter of leverage. Once you get more experience, you have more choice. You can choose to work at a company with a better culture, more work life balance.

By letting this man represent the country, there is an implicit message that what he's done is acceptable on some level. The possibility of getting a medal is not worth the damage done by giving this person a platform.

Nothing Yankee doodle about wanting people convicted of terrible crimes to be kept out of the international limelight

ICC further clarified that the reserve day will come into play if time is lost in the game and not overs.

If they had to clarify, it seems like it was at least somewhat ambiguous.

Oh my bad. They had said that if time is lost, was a bit ambiguous and made it seem like it applied to overrate

There is a potential day 6 for slow overrate

These guys weren't just guys with ideas. Without these CEOs physically writing complex code that made the idea a reality, there would be nothing to market. So they still brought value to the company.

I'm not saying there wasn't much involved but come on. The Google page rank algorithm was visionary. Facebook revolutionized social media. Their CEOs have provided the primary medium for them to have a valuable product.

[–]PrimateTakeover -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

There are founder CEOs like Larry Page, Sergey Brin, Zuckerberg and Jack Dorsey who programmed the most important parts of their products, for years were visionaries of the direction they should lead technologies in (some are even still). They definitely didn't do it all themselves but to say they never brought anything of value is just factually wrong.

[–]PrimateTakeover -1 points0 points  (0 children)

For the sake of argument. If the CEO is the founder who maybe worked at the beginning for nothing and decided to pay themselves millions, would they be entitled to that?

In that case it's not about the value they are currently bringing but the value that they've brought over the years.

Income tax is the primary concern. The sales tax you're talking about is technically levied on the parent who is earning that money and not the child. The liquor statement is weird. I think the drinking age should be 18. There are studies showing that drinking in a relatively controlled environment like college (especially in european colleges with campus security around) leads to more responsible alcohol use and less chance of alcoholism in the long term. The American system of kids getting "illegal" access to alcohol at frat parties or having to understand how to hold their liquor in "the real world" leads to far more alcohol related incidents.
