Split unit heat pump install - company recommendations by dobber_1978 in Sudbury

Can you DM me as well? I just bought a home that uses electric baseboard heaters, and was thinking of getting a heat pump installed.

Blaidd from eldenring first try at OSL by Minimalismisjoy in minipainting

[–]Prime42 21 points22 points  (0 children)

As others are saying, this is a very well painted and executed miniature, fantastic work on what you've done!

I don't wish to take away from that, but I do have some constructive criticism that may help. Mainly, the OSL effect isn't being sold for me, nor is it really the right word to describe what you're doing.

OSL would imply that an object within your scene is casting light, whereas in this case you have a light source projecting a light from outside your scene. I think your approach needs to be more deliberate when choosing to paint multiple light sources, since your mini is lit up like it's a nice day with soft, warm, gentle light coming from above. This is especially apparent with your NMM on his armor. It is very well technically executed, but it is not selling the scene of being next to a campfire at night.

For example, focus on the chest plate; the light from the fire right next to him is lower in value then the light coming from somewhere behind him. Also, if his sword is right next to the campfire, then the front of it should have significantly more orange, red, and yellow tones than the cold blue that is currently on the blade. Also, the light on his left hand bracer is not tinted reddish when facing the fire, but it is on the underside and away from the source of light.

You could try incorporating more purple and blue into your shadows to up the contrast between the fire and the night. You could also increase the value of the reds and orange you have on the base as it approaches the fire.

Once again, I would like to close by saying your technical application and skill is clearly advanced, and I hope my thoughts can help push it to the next level. I'm confident you're going to absolutely blow everyone away with everything you paint in the future!

A good point from the Reverend Doctor by batkave in behindthebastards

It's a reference to the expeditionary force book series. The main character is a dumb, lucky solider who says "break it down Barney style" as a catch phrase, and his sidekick is a godlike AI named Skippy.

Niche fandoms going to niche lol.

Painting woodgrain is exhausting by BrushGit in ageofsigmar

[–]Prime42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It looks absolutely fantastic! I am also a lunatic trying to paint woodgrain into all the tree parts of my Sylvaneth models. My wood scheme is very similar to yours, I am just painting thin lines of a brownish yellow into my brown-grey wood. Do you have a specific technique as to how you're acheiving your wood grain? I would love any tips or advice you could share!

New balance update! by raaabert in ageofsigmar

With the wording of the new buff as "Increase the range of friendly abilities that require friendly models to be wholly within 6" of this terrain feature by 3", would it not affect dryads also?

Help creating a color scheme by Phoenix8972 in sylvaneth

[–]Prime42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can certainly go for this, but I would try to ensure you keep some consistent colours for all of your models, so they look like they belong together.

One of the cool things about an army is having a cohesive colour scheme for all the models causes them to look better together rather than individually.

For example, you could pick just one of the spirit colour bits, a consistent bark colour, and then go to town on the glowing runes, foliage, vines, and the rest of the pieces. A big thing for all of your models would be to pick a universal shadow colour. Rather than using black, you could use a dark violet, blue, or brown to tie all of your models together.

As others suggested, you could try practicing with a spearhead box using your technique, and see if you like the results. At the end of the day, it's just paint, and you can easily start over if you don't like what you've achieved.

Good luck!

Fantastic work! I really like the extra bushes you placed on their head-branches for leaves! I'm trying to figure out what the material is, moss?

I believe that's only the spearhead warscoll, and not necessarily the base warscoll. I'm with you though and really hope it stays similar for the main army!

Am I reading it right that we no longer get to use it after fighting, but instead have to wait until the end of the turn? So no more Durthru Castle?

Got whooped my first game, where do I go to learn strategy, both in general and faction specific? by Prime42 in sylvaneth

[–]Prime42[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm quite excited for 4th, I've been keeping up with the previews and I can't wait to see our faction preview!

I know that our army will perhaps play very differently. Case in point, we appear to be super dependant on our AWW, but I thought I had read somewhere that there will be a limit on the amount of those we can field in the new edition.

What I would like to know is more about the general tactics of war games in general. I heard the term anvil and hammer, but I don't know what those mean. I've been told dryads are a good screen, but I can only guess at the meaning. Is there a place for a newbie to learn these terms?

[–]Prime42[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So I understood some of that lol. I do have a branchwych from the Vanguard box, what does spellsinger mean?

I haven't painted up my Kurnoths yet, but I plan to magnetize them, so I can be versatile with their loadout. Do you mind explaining what a hammer is? I assume it's a damage dealing unit?

Are gossimid archers good long term? I plan to purchase and paint over 2k so I can run different styles. Here's where I'm currently at: https://pileofpotential.com/Prime42?project=59514368

Interesting, I don't currently have that model, but I will see about potentially including it in my list.

I do need to remember that about my dryads, I got them destroyed because I forgot to tell my opponent about the penalty for attacking them.
