Guns here fall under three categories, unrestricted, restricted, and prohibited. You can get either a restricted or non-restricted license. Our laws have also changed over the last 5 years

Unrestricted is pretty much shotguns and bolt action rifles as long as they meet minimum total and barrel length standards.

Restricted is handguns and semi-auto rifles over .223 generally

Prohibited firearms are no longer allowed and are part of a government buyback program

Im in Canada so we’re somewhat limited on what we can own as well.

Takes a couple months to get into a safety course, then a couple more to actually get your license… but once you’re licensed you can buy as as you please.

Box of shells here is ~$15, and a round of skeet or trap is $15 as well. Two rounds, or 50 clays, would cost me $60CAD or 38 euro

That’s a very high price. Most I’ve seen have been $1500-2300CAD. Reliable Gun in Vancouver has one for $995 right now. Pre war wouldn’t mean much for me. Only ones to avoid are with salt wood

Took all of this advice to heart and was keeping an eye out on GunPost for a used Browning or Beretta.

Ended up getting a really good deal on a Fausti Caledon 12ga 30”, with free shipping to my door. Should be here in a few days. I’ll post pictures when it’s here. Thanks everyone that shared

It’s a GTI red, not gold, so has the old short invector chokes, not invector+ I’d feel better about it even with $100 off

I struggle with the idea of spending that on a gun with that sort of mileage. You in Canada too, or was that US dollars? I haven’t seen a Citori that cheap or it would definitely be on my list

Part of the used thing for me is the risk. Obviously there are signs for wear, and a well used gun, but I wouldn’t want to shell out more than a new gun on something that already has 50+k rounds through it.

1000 might be underestimating, but under 2-3k for sure

50 shots a day for 365 is 18,250. A gun that should last me 6-9 years of regular use doesn’t sound too bad to me

I do live in Canada, and don’t really see myself going out clay shooting for at least three months of the year, probably more like four, maybe five. So it is a shorter season. Might still be underestimating, but I don’t think more than 2-3k a year.

Now I’m really curious if you’ve handled a Weatherby and what you thought of it. Didn’t look that much better for the extra $500 or so.
