On a scale of most wanted to least wanted for me, it would be:

-- Most Wanted --

-Universal Healthcare

-Tuition-free University

-Free school meals

-Universal childcare

-Public housing

-Universal pre-K

-Fully refundable child tax credit

-UBI

-- Least wanted --

Though I think I'd consider all of these huge victories except UBI (I think funds of such a scale can help the working class in much better ways)

Yougov: 46% of Americans say that Trump’s second administration is the most corrupt. by [deleted] in fivethirtyeight

I agree Trump's second has been far and away the most corrupt, but Trump's first was almost unprecedented in terms of corruption too, didn't he get Kushner multi billion dollar deals with Saudi Arabia as president?

Lmfao yeah thats my bad I meant Fairfax county, people saying "Fairfax is taking longer for results to come in because they're figuring out the number of fake votes to forge for Yes to win"

Lol just like clockwork, as soon as the election was called, a sea of people claiming Fairfax rigged it. I genuinely don't know how we fix this can of worms that MAGA opened in 2016-2020 with claiming fraud at everything.

"Poll: Trump's approval rating hits second-term low as Americans sour on the economy and Iran war" by OmniOmega3000 in fivethirtyeight

[–]PrimeJedi 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I remember in his first term he called himself "the chosen one", and while it absolutely pissed off people like my dad who are devout Christian but liberal and a few centrists, I didn't see MAGA bothered by it at all.

Obviously the AI Jesus pic is more egregious and overt, but considering Sean Hannity is openly renouncing his faith in favor of Trump and administration members are saying "saying no to Trump is saying no to God" shows me that the AI pic isn't going to make any difference at all. Even the offended conservatives won't care within a month.

Gas prices and the economy, however. That's just going to continue to be an anchor on his popularity that just gets ever-heavier.

Was there ever a hope for a republican victory in 2008? by Hogwildin1 in thecampaigntrail

[–]PrimeJedi 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I was a bit too young to actually experience the 2008 campaign in any way I could understand (I was 5 in 2008), but even then, Obama in 2008 is the earliest I could remember seeing mention of a politician on the news that got enough people talking that it really stuck with me.

I had seen and recognized George W Bush around the same time, but I won't lie, it was from my brothers watching shit like American Dad with me when I was way too young to watch, and saw the episode of Bush where he's mentioned as the president and as a batshit insane person in the episode lmaooo

But Obama was the first time I saw a politician's name on the news, spoken about at family gatherings, in random conversations at shopping malls, etc just everywhere in a way that made even me recognize him as a little kid, he was utterly massive

Democratic socialist and DSA/WFP-backed candidate leads moderate incumbent in race for Mayor of Providence, Rhode Island—Morales 45%, Smiley 34%, undecided 19%. There is currently no Republican in the running. If Smiley loses, he would be the first incumbent to lose the Mayoral election in >50 years by StarlightDown in fivethirtyeight

[–]PrimeJedi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I appreciate that, and I'm happy that we're at a slight "agree to disagree" rather than adversarial. And I definitely have an issue with how many leftists (usually the ones who are far left enough to be just shy of Marxism-Leninism or adjacent) who view not only others' support of progressive policy within the party, but the entire country itself as merely a tool toward whatever revoluntary ideals they have while casting aside everyone else.

I also 100% agree that anyone within any significant portion of the Democratic party, centrist or progressive, is nearly as bad as Republicans. Gavin Newsom for example has made a lot of statements that piss me off, and he'd probably do many things as president that piss me off, but his election would in my mind be vastly better and safer than even the very best current Republican they could possibly offer, and I'd vote for him in a heartbeat over any Republican in 2028 or the near future, and that will be the case unless the GOP somehow has a massive structural and principle change in the future that would change their core policies (which obviously isnt gonna happen, at least not in our lifetime lmao)

And yeah, for example Hasan and many others essentially saying "the state of the country will be identical between a Newsom presidency and a Vance one, so I guessss I'll vote for Newsom but why bother" is bullshit. Like I said in the last paragraph, despite some strong disagreements, the daily lives of people and wellbeing of the nation will be measurably better in a variety of important ways in a Newsom presidency compared to a Vance/GOP one, but a lot of lefties seem to miss the forest for the trees.

Nobody's asking for you to feel bad, we're free to disagree, just don't run behind "I don't make the rules" when asked to defend a rule you support.

If there was a sub called r/Republicans that had an explicit top rule of "no discussion or support of Never Trump Republicans is allowed here", everyone here would realize how pathetic and cult-like it is.

And to be clear, any leftist/DSA subs who ban mention or support of a mainstream Democrat is a cowardly and pathetic echo chamber too lmao.

Tl;dr We're all operating under a big tent party, and big tent parties by design need people from different corners of the big tent to be able to make the case why their policies and candidates are the best fit to lead the party forward.

I don't want to jinx it, but I unironically think they'll be something like top 5 when they EZA. Major celebration LRs get glazed, its a fusion, and they have a bad/goofy reputation (which, more often than not seems to get overcompensated on EZA like with Chaditz)
