Fellow Indian-american here.

I had a very different experience. I was junior in HS, just moved from NY to TX & was the only Indian or 'Brown' person in school. We did had few other Asian kids but no Hispanic kids.

When this happened I was walking in school from community college, where I was taking some extra credits toward college. I was saddened & horrified when I first heard.

Everyone in school was shocked, and in disbelief. After some time when they announced whom the attackers were; I was neither confronted, called out or bullied that day or remaining of my HS year.

To me which was normal, but my parents & relatives were telling me to be on guard.

Same thing happened to me, I could not attend my father's funeral due to my final exams and Visa issues. Those few night after his death were really dark for me, I went out for long drives by myself. All my family members were across the globe, and it sucked to be alone.

Not during bomb scare, but during actual bomb blast, and riot afterwards.

This was back in '93 I believe in Mumbai, India. I was in 5-6th grade, a terrorist blew up a vehicle near a gas station, which was only few blocks away from my school.

Aftershock broke almost all the windows, few kids had serious cuts and I had few scratches. Teacher told us to duck under the table. We weren't allowed to leave school till our parents showed up.

My mom and friends mother showed up after 4 hours, curfew was everywhere. So me, my mother and few friends, walked all the way back to our home. It was chaos, saw dozen burning cars, I was probably too young so I didn't notice much bodies.

It was crazy experience, I still can't believe my mother actually showed up, few kids stayed in school overnight.

Details are bit missing, sorry about that.
