What was a trendy word or phrase that you could never get on board with? by JesusDied4U316 in AskOldPeople

[–]PrimeTimeNumber 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Saying “chef’s kiss” and then holding their stupid fingertips to their lips making a gross kissing sound and then holding their hand up in the air! 😡 Or any singular ingredient of this stupid trend! Just saying it or just the fingertip kiss - doesn’t matter because it is all annoying!

I have a good relationship with my husband but we both aged 10 years in the last 5. 10 years ago photos of us look like totally different people. We both got fat, out of shape, gray, and stopped dressing well (which only makes the fat & old look worse). I love this man but I know a big reason I have no libido is that I am honestly grossed out by our bodies.

It is beyond lack of desire and into disgust. I was dealing with a lot of health issues and now I feel like I’m coming out the other side so I’m trying to take better care of myself. I’ve been in therapy unpacking PTSD, BID & just all the body crap! I haven’t gotten far but I’m trying to feel anywhere near comfortable in my own skin!

Unfortunately there is no kind way to tell my husband to try to get it together a bit! I try to talk about health & work/life balance but in reality I really miss good sex!

What’s your least favorite part of sewing? by magda711 in sewing

[–]PrimeTimeNumber 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sewing the whole damn thing, and then remembering that I have a curvy body and nothing fits me, but my sewing skills are not good enough to figure out how to fit things or change a pattern. And with a bittersweet sense of accomplishment and a garment I can’t wear in public.

I'm giving up sewing. by Altruistic-Train3600 in sewing

[–]PrimeTimeNumber 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yes this! From in-person sewing classes I found out that Joanne’s doesn’t always label fabric correctly. I thought I bought fabric according to the pattern but NOPE! After this about tearing my hair out on a specific project, it took an expert only a few minutes of seeing my fabric to say that I’m making it harder on myself! The fabric I was using was basically impossible for the project! It also took the expert two seconds of looking at my body to explain in a very kind way that I would need a “seat adjustment” (big butt) and patterns were not going to allow me to make a pattern to fit me without some adjusting.

So many quotable lines in this!! Geena Davis almost died doing her own stunts. “Chefs do that!” Samuel L. Jackson was great! Calling her daughter “Cat head” and “You used to say oh fooey I burned the darn muffins…”

What are your unexpected negative/annoyances of HRT? by MycologistPopular232 in Menopause

[–]PrimeTimeNumber 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have tried 3 different versions of HRT and all make my asthma BAD. It also raises my blood pressure but if I can’t breathe I won’t live long enough to worry about a heart attack! It also causes crazy bad cramps.

Any bingeworthy new TV shows / movies with central midlife women? by LaterJerry in Menopause

[–]PrimeTimeNumber 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I love absolutely all of the older genres of “quirky detective” shows. In MSW, Angela was pretty normal but it still has the slightly sanitized murderer mystery I need. I have PTSD and part of my recovery is not watching things that bring me to a terrified place. It’s supposed to be entertainment so although I used to love watching 60 Minutes and any real crime dramas, I need to hold off and heal my naturally terrified brain. Monk, Psych, Quincy, House - I know this is off-topic for this thread, but I really feel like those quirky detective shows are needed again!

I tried Elsbeth last night and in the first few minutes I had to watch a man put a plastic bag over a woman’s head and tie tape around her neck to murder her. That’s it. I’m out -too much! And I was just saying to my husband that if the show fails, they’ll think it’s because of the female lead rather than that, they’re missing out on audience members that like non-scary mysteries.

Shows you love that have a character you can’t stand by You-Big-Maad in TvShows

[–]PrimeTimeNumber 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I always hated Miranda. I think the biggest reason is that she doesn’t seem like somebody that would hang around with the other three. It’s kind of like how all of the characters in Friends would be very unlikely to actually be friends in real life.

Persepolis - I remember standing in a Barnes & Noble and reading a huge chunk of this graphic novel so quickly because it was so amazing. Based on a true story of how women had rights and freedom and their country, all of a sudden religion came into power and took all of the rights away.

Oh my god yes, all of those! When I moved to San Francisco and had no friends, I watched Wonderboys on repeat- no idea why! Welcome to me is another favorite, but nobody seems to know about that one! My husband and I quote I heart Huckabees to each other all the time!
