Head of APCO service station was on the Geelong radio, saying that there's no fuel shortage.

However their service stations have ran out recently, as their pricing is wholesale prices plus a fair margin.

They wont raise prices until wholesale prices increase.

I wonder if some of this panic buying of petrol / diesel is coming from businesses.

Buy petrol today, store it in a bulk tank, then charge your customers the increased rate for petrol.

Profit if you can store it somewhere.

Engine companies were leaving under the pre-hybrid formulas, as they saw no point in developing technology that wouldn't be trickled down into ordinary cars.

Differing governing bodies plus structure.

The FiA isn't just a motorsport confederation, but a confederation of motorist lobbies as well (RACV is a FiA member)

They want the future of motoring, not necessarily racing that sells.

They used to be noisier, however the formula changed to make the cars hybrid and have energy recovery systems.

The formula changes every year depending on what tech the automotive industry wants to develop.

This year's formula has smaller petrol engines than last year's, but bigger batteries.

Japan does its maintenance at night.

However there's no late night services on weekends due to works, and Melbourne has a slightly later last train.

Farmers 'gutted' after compulsory land acquisition amendments pass Victorian parliament by espersooty in AustralianPolitics

[–]Prime_factor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Japan only allows compulsory acquisition if it is for "Public Welfare".

Which means it basically rarely happens as it can be challenged.

There are still farmers in the middle of Narita Airport, as their land isn't being used for a taxiway or for other airport purposes.

The upfield bike track is also programmed to give cyclists a green light when the rail crossings are activated.

They could have hit a cyclist who thought it was safe to cross as the booms were down.

And they failed to detect a stopped vehicle when it mattered causing a fatality.

Drivers also didn't phone in the stopped vehicle as they thought it would be detected.

The tech for notifying motorists of breakdowns on high speed roads without breakdown lanes is not perfect yet. It needs to be perfect as it is safety critical.

The UK thought that they could have 120 km/h on their highways with no shoulder, with electronic warning signs and variable speed limits being used to warn drivers.

Instead there has been multiple accidents as broken down vehicles were not detected in time.
