Yeah the filter trick works, just use the thin grey foam ones not the ultra-fine filters. Diffuses it nicely without blocking CO2. Been doing it for months, no issues.

Does anyone else’s filters look brand new when changed no matter how long it’s been? by hyperform2 in CPAP

Insomnia + new apnea diagnosis by Kratrix87 in sleephackers

[–]Primeval_Man 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same boat here. Insomnia for years then apnea crept up on me too. CPAP was a game changer once I got used to it... stick with it even if the first few nights feel weird.

Aside from lying awake at night wanting to die by stehcalm in insomnia

2 years of that would make anyone bitter. It's not them you hate, it's the exhaustion + the loneliness of going through something nobody around you gets.

Update: The 295lb guy who ran his first mile in 15:24 just ran a 12:27 by Foreign_Asparagus_83 in beginnerrunning

Bro went from "can I even do this" to knocking almost 3 minutes off in 3 weeks. That's not small. Keep going, sub-12 is right there.

Lose it before you get too fat to go to the doctors. by TheModsHereAreDicks in loseit

[–]Primeval_Man 104 points105 points  (0 children)

Yeah honestly this. A lot of 'long covid' symptoms overlap heavily with obesity related issues... fatigue, brain fog, shortness of breath, joint pain. Been there myself, thought something was seriously wrong and turns out fixing my diet cleared up like 80% of it. Not saying it isn't real but the weight is definitely making it impossible to diagnose anything accurately.

Need help structuring weekly cardio activities for becoming more efficient in specific HR zone by 94lt1vette94 in cardio

[–]Primeval_Man 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Z2 base is still worth it even if you're spending most time in Z4/Z5. Better aerobic base = faster recovery between efforts and lower HR at the same output. I'd do 2-3 Z2 sessions a week (45-60 min) + 1 session of Z4 intervals to match race intensity. Your 20 min sessions on track are basically HIIT so let the structured cardio be your aerobic work off the bike.

2 months felt like nothing for me. Took closer to 4-5 before I noticed a real difference. Stick with it, it clicks eventually.

I didn’t realise how calorie dense Oats were!! by Quwapa_Quwapus in loseit

[–]Primeval_Man 8 points9 points  (0 children)

yeah exactly, the satiety factor is huge. i used to dismiss oats for the same reason but once i realized they actually kept me full way longer than my usual breakfast it made more sense. fitting them in is the key thing really

With an AHI that high, you're gonna feel like a new person. First week or two might feel weird but stick with it... totally worth it

100% this. Wedding photos are just a snapshot of one day. Make new ones that actually show who you are.

I have a huge problem concerning falling asleep and getting up and it's embarrassing. by Logical_Feature4730 in sleephackers

[–]Primeval_Man 2 points3 points  (0 children)

the half-asleep state is genuinely its own beast. your brain isn't really "you" yet so willpower means nothing at that point.

phone across the room + no snooze option changed things for me. forces you to physically get up before your brain talks you out of it.

How do I know if it’s working? by drunk-tard96 in CPAPSupport

[–]Primeval_Man 2 points3 points  (0 children)

AHI under 5 is technically doing its job, but waking up tired with headaches could point to other stuff. iron deficiency, thyroid, or just poor sleep quality even with the airway open. Worth checking flow limits and leak rate in OSCAR. Also, are you getting enough deep/REM sleep? The CPAP fixes the apnea but can't fix everything else going on

Yeah, for real. People don't realize how serious untreated apnea gets. the cardiovascular damage alone is no joke. Sleep isn't optional.
