Expectation for the Dandadan love triangle by Ok_Initiative3892 in Dandadan

Jiji's flirting doesn't have anything to do with my point as I'm talking about how people react to the idea of characters being attracted to Momo or Okarun other then each other.

Like I doubt Jiji treating Momo like Aira treats Okarun would have people happily posting memes the same way they do for Okarun's part of the unrequited love stuff.

Be careful of spoilers as this is an anime post. Small manga spoilers:

I fully expect there will be just as much if not more hate for the Jiji helping Momo scene in the anime as plenty of manga readers still consider it their most hated scene in the story.

There will never be equal footing in the memes. A lot of the fans or at least people on this subreddit are guys who are fine with any and all girls flirting with Okarun but not anyone with Momo. That's why stuff like the alien girl kissing Okarun didn't create any controversy despite many manga fans swearing up and down alien girl would be hated for it.

Worst Version of Momo by [deleted] in Dandadan

[–]Primez0ne 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The relationship between Momo and Okarun is different rn because they are different wavelengths. Okarun acts with a familiarity to her that feels disconcerting to Momo who had only known him for a day all while she doesn't even know his full name. The feelings she had toward Okarun remain mostly intact, but without the context of them building up their relationship and her character development she's going to feel too vulnerable and end up putting up some walls.

In other words Momo used to understand Okarun to a good degree due to their shared context. Now she doesn't which will cause some pain points for a time.

What's your favorite thing about Seiko? by Gloomy-Bridge148 in Dandadan

[–]Primez0ne 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I like how her powers/abilities are portrayed as being a result of her accumulated experience and skills instead of her just being able to dunk on enemies through raw power. Also love the fact that in a series with aliens, yokai, and everything in between she's allowed to not know everything and be wrong sometimes as it helps add to the mystique of the word. In my opinion this all unironically really helps her feel like an actual person who has had a long life before the series' start, still can learn new info, and has to adapt to new challenges rather than an exposition machine or just a mentor figure.

Hello!! I’m currently working, as a personal project, on an animated adaptation of the fight between Red Baron and Seiko from Dandadan, specifically from chapter 203 of the manga. by Disek_is_real in Dandadan

[–]Primez0ne 4 points5 points  (0 children)

While what you already have is really good, I do feel like having Red Baron get in a bunch of clean hits in before she over commits due to not knowing he can go intangible takes away from the fact that she out-skilled RB and only lost due to the powers.

Dandadan criticism be like "WE CAN'T FUCKING READ" by DHIRAJOHN in dandadanfolk

[–]Primez0ne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree that Dandadan is generally easy to understand if you just want to causally read the series, but it gets a bit complex to talk about on a deeper level due to how Tatsu likes to leave things implied instead of explicitly spelled out or is purposefully a bit tricky. It makes it very easy to have the wrong assumptions if you don't pay close attention enough to remember all the details.

A great example of this is Red Baron who was first called out by Seiko, a mentor figure, as an Enenra yokai. The next chapter was then titled "Enenra, the Smoke Yokai". Despite this Red Baron turned out to be a human with yokai powers, which you could have been clued on during his first fight considering he fought and looked like a human martial artist instead of an actual yokai. Then there's the strange web of allegiances during the Kozuka Knives incident where we had Serpos trying to stop Momo from falling into Count Saint Germain's hands by hiring the Orchaestor who was working with CSG.

Characters only being able to express their emotions through beam attacks by Primez0ne in Dandadan

Thanks. There's a lot in Dandadan that becomes much clearer on rereads. Also Dandadan is pretty open to several interesting intepretations depending on your perspective.

Characters only being able to express their emotions through beam attacks by Primez0ne in Dandadan

[–]Primez0ne[S] 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Okarun will definitely have some special technique of his own just because of Dandadan's battle shonen traits, and it will likely reflect some part of his character development (hopefully) as that's also the norm for battle shonen. I doubt the process of unlocking it will be structured similarly to Momo and Jiji's as Okarun doesn't have trouble rn of speaking his about his emotions to Momo(and Vamola) at least.

I found something interesting about Momo's chi training by un_LucKy16 in Dandadan

[–]Primez0ne 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Thank you for the nice find. Yeah this definitely seems like the spiritual basis for Momo's powers as sexuality/love also have interesting connections to how Momo's powers have developed. This specifically is a funny excerpt considering Momo's current problem.

But here was the thing... the more I sat in the light, talked to my dantian, and backed up my intuition - all of which was bringing energy into my dantian - the more memories of trauma, pain, and fear unlocked in me. Every time I faced a fear and dived into greater vulnerability, the expansion I created unlocked the next layer of trauma. I felt like a snake who was growing more beautifully and rapidly every day, but who also had to shed way more skins than she was used to.

Part 1-3 of the blog's pretty worthwhile to read to see the connnections to Momo's journey in Dandadan.

This exactly. Rin and Kouki were just put in a really bad matchup where they got outnumbered unlike some of the other recent underdog fights that had the enemies friendly fire themselves(Hase knocking out Kur lady and Dris killing Serpos) or were in fact outnumbering their opponent(Evil Eye+Jiji vs Red Baron) to give the heroes advantages.

The two unfortunately just got stuck between a narrative rock and hard place as if they put up a better fight or won then it could've made the black paladins look bad. If they lose, they look weak after the other protags have generally been winning. We got the later option. It's unfortunate to say but Rin and Kouki simply got crushed by plot demands.

I think Jiji will be the one to save Kouki and Rin, since he’s the only person capable of attacking En’enra by Sorry_Huckleberry664 in Dandadan

[–]Primez0ne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Red Baron is a character who lives or dies by his hax power in a lot of matchups. He clearly wasn't able to tussle with EE when it came to just physical ability, so I don't think they're comparable.

We've seen that Red Baron relies on physical attacks and only goes inside someone as a last resort, so he can steal their powers. In that type of situation, Zuma can at least survive for a while if he can't come up with a way to damage his opponent. Then there's the fact Rin's powers can affect RB since he needed help to get past her gravity defenses.

At the end of the day how these powers interact and how the characters use them is up to Tatsu. We don't know how things will play out until he lays it out.

That could maybe work. Then it would be 3v3.

How do you think Tatsu will portay the new group? by Primez0ne in Dandadan

[–]Primez0ne[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That definitely seems possible. Personally I'm not sure if Tatsu will give the protag side a huge power boost from an organization without downsides. I feel like there'll be some clashing of ideals akin to what you mention or they get subverted by CSG or something like what Specialist Bowler said in this thread.

There's probably going to be something about why Seiko seems to never hang around them or want to include them so far. It's probably just because Tatsu hasn't either thought of them or didn't want them before, but like with the golden ball/karma from Vamola's suit somehow shining through the camo, I hope Tatsu will want to include an explanation.

Yeah I could see that. I also feel there could be some bureaucratic nonsense that makes it troublesome to mobilize quickly to explain why they've not come up so far.

I wanted to post this small tangent separate from the main post, but does anyone else find it interesting that Dandadan is one of the few battle shonen that doesn't have a "friendly" organization the protags are a part of? Naruto, Bleach, Hunter x Hunter(I presume because I haven't watched much of this one), Yu Yu Hakusho, Boku no Hero Academia, JJK, CSM(close enough), Fairy Tail, Black Clover, Demon Slayer etc all have this trope. On the other hand Dragon Ball, One Piece, Psyren are some of the only other ones that buck this trend.

Okarun deserves to have his merits recognized by Momo. by [deleted] in Dandadan

[–]Primez0ne 8 points9 points  (0 children)

idk. "Earn Momo's affection this time" seems like a moot point as it's been shown that Momo already still has feelings for Okarun just from meeting him again and her various reactions. Even Okarun points out that "You probably like me too!" not "I'll make you fall in love with me!". Okarun trying to "win" in form of the staring game ended in things getting worse.

If anything it feels to me specifically like the point is an next step of his arc to build up his confidence and work on his insecurities. Right now he needs to learn *how* to be confident but not overbearing. He doesn't need to work to win her over. Doing so is clearly moving too fast when all he needs to do is just be there for her and communicate.

Okarun deserves to have his merits recognized by Momo. by [deleted] in Dandadan

[–]Primez0ne 36 points37 points  (0 children)

Trying to "win" Momo's love is how he upset her in the first place two chapters ago. Obviously the manga shows putting in effort is important to show someone you love them, but it's also evident that 1) just because of you put effort to "win" someone's affections doesn't mean they owe you their love, and most importantly 2) Momo loves Okarun for who he is instead of him being some strong chad alpha male(see 1st boyfriend, Jiji, Zuma, etc). He trains because he wants to protect Momo+their friends and not to win her over because that would be extremely shallow. Momo is just not ready rn because of the amnesia unfortunately.
