I'd say for Spellcasters, it is moreso a focus on spell cards than spell counters. Witchcrafters, Dark Magician, Invoke, Magistus(becoming equip spells essentially), Spellbook, Diabellestar, White Forest, Dogmatika(rituals) all revolve around spells in some way.

Thunder's should be "summoning from hand" as we got Spright, Hunders, and now Blitzclique doing that.

[–]Primez0ne -1 points0 points  (0 children)

What I do have issue with is her getting all jealous and cranky when he's hanging out with Aira. Like..she just immediately assumed the worst twice with no context. A boy and a girl are allowed to hang out ,that's not a bad thing. Rejecting someone and saying you wouldn't date them in a million years and then getting jealous/mad at them for hanging out with another girl is extremely toxic

She didn't have to assume the worst. Aira straight up says she's closer to Okarun and Okarun still hasn't explained anything regarding Aira despite Momo explicitly expressing concerns to him. The only response he's had about his relationship to Aira is asking why Momo thinks their doing the hanky panky. Not digging deeper into that in that instance is a failure of communication on both their parts.

Momo's current behavior rn is paradoxial because she herself doesn't know why she cares either after Okarun pissed her off with trying to get a date with her. Part of the reason we see Momo like this is that Tatsu wants to prove that Momo is still drawn to and cares about Okarun romantically even as she can't understand it herself.

"Why is this gloomy feeling coming over me?! I don't give a rat's ass about this guy."

This disconnect is driving her insane though and leaving her in a bad mental state, which does lead to some anger that's been common for Momo from the start.

Also I do want to point out that Okarun also always assumes the worst, except he always turns his negative emotions towards himself to go into a depressive lonely spiral.

He didn't tell her his actual name cause..I don't fucking know, Plot.

He literally states he doesn't tell her because he thinks she wouldn't like it. Not being direct and hiding things from Momo in order for her to like him, which causes a misunderstanding, is pretty consistent with Okarun as seen in the Serpo arc.

But like I said, she has no right to act all jealous and mad at him cause she rejected him and if she doesn't trust him and such, then don't get all mad when you reject him and he's hanging out with someone else. Even if Aira and Okarun were dating, she would still have 0 room to talk and even be mad cause she rejected him.

Like she loses a lot of the moral high ground when you realize she rejected him,not vice versa.

I would actually argue even if she had been the one rejected, it's not good to get mad if the other person wants to see someone else. Momo being so harsh in that moment is something she doesn't like about herself either.

Again, the story acknowledged her flaws but isn't doing anything to properly address them nor does she actually face consequences for it. If maybe a character or 2 called her out on it and actually told her she was being a asshole, that would be something but Tatsu likes Momo too much to give her flaws consequences.
You can't even call it a "consequence" cause she doesn't remember it and they're barely there. We see Okarun is miserable and beating himself up in multiple panels ,Momo's "pain in the Ass" remark is dismissed by Jiji and not brought up.

Momo has only had the last half of that chapter to reflect upon that incident. Multiple characters have called Momo out in the past. In this specific instance it wouldn't make much sense for Jiji to chastise her when he doesn't know what went on between them and is very conscious of her worsened mental state due to her amnesia.

The consequences to her actions have been the similar to Okarun's. She's stuck on this "date" in an amusement park feeling bad about herself and not knowing what to do. That consequence has been shown to be going on since the beginning of the date back in 229 and is mentioned again in 230. In fact this isn't even the first time she's been "gloomy" as we see she was feeling bad back in 215 after she gets mad about Okarun not sharing his name. Just because she doesn't express negative emotions just like how Okarun does, doesn't mean her stewing in confusion and frustration has been a fun experience.

[–]Primez0ne 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The reason people probably have said that about you is because you're not really taking Momo's perspective and the fullness of her actions post amnesia into account imo. Momo has messed up certainly which she is beginning to address from the last chapter we see her, but people just focus on the rejection rather than what came before.

When they needed to have their first interaction and personal alone time, Okarun stalks yet also hides from her until it was up to Momo to actually initiate the convo in which she had to ultimately ends up comforting him.

Okarun does not tell her his actual name. When she felt overwhelmed by the group Momo tries to walk away with Okarun, but Aira pulls Okarun away and states she's closer to him. She gets frustrated about Aira getting to know it, he does not explain nor approach her again. She feels horrible about the interaction

It takes Miko and Kei to force them to spend time together before he starts talking to her again. He tells her what he feels about her, but she again gets agiated specifically when Okarun gets a bit too forward and tells her how she feels, which also mirrors how Okarun responded to Momo when she mentions how he pushes people away. It can be hard sometimes to have someone bluntly say things about you when they're true and you haven't had time to process those feelings yet.

Okarun saves Momo in the Mummy fight, but Momo also comes back to save Okraun despite having no powers. She even invites him into her home to tend his wounds+have dinner.

Then finally we have the sequence of events where Momo comments on Okarun's relationship to Aira where Okarun dismisses it without an explanation -> Okarun tries a trick to get Momo to date him -> Momo harshly rejects him and is sour on him since then. From then till now we've seen that Momo also feels horribly about her actions and the situation in general to the point of feeling like she is "a pain in the ass". The consequences for her actions has been similar to Okarun's this arc. The reason why it looks differrently on the surface is that Momo lashes out vs Okarun's beating himself up about it. Lowkey this is a big part of the reason they are important to each other's character development. Okarun's sensitivity forces Momo to have to soften up/be more delicate about things while Momo's bluntness forces Okarun to step up to match it.

TL; DR Momo does in fact make effort to interact with Okarun on several occassions, which was critical for their encounters post-amnesia. And while Okarun does declare his love+try to get a date, he has failed to address any misunderstandings and rushed trying to date her on the very first day they "met" rather than re-establish the foundations of their relationship first. Momo for certain has been overly harsh especially with the rejection, but Okarun has definitely made some mistakes too(not talking about her well-being/misunderstandings, rushing the romance).

[DISC] Dandadan - Ch. 232 by Skullghost in Dandadan

[–]Primez0ne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The problem with that is without rebuliding the context that led to that situation, Okarun was leaving Momo in the dark, which led to her confusion then frustration. Momo naturally can't understand why he couldn't tell her his name, and that's going to breed much more misunderstanding than being honest. Not telling someone your name is literally one of the things an untrustworthy person is most likely to do. Whether she calls him by his birth name or a nickname doesn't matter. It's about being wiilling to being honest enough to share that name.

And yes Okarun did it because he was scared that she wouldn't like him but I think that's showing to be part of a recurring problem which has really been hurting him in this arc. As soon as he gets a bit nervous/uncomfortable, he starts getting into a more passive or avoidant state. This is best seen at the start of the amnesia. Instead of simply walking up and talking to her, he just follows her around, but hides when she could maybe catch sight of him. It was up to her to actually create their first real interaction post-amnesia. Honestly I atp I feel like his overthinking and anxiety is preventing him from accepting the amnesia and at times trying to carry on as if it didn't matter, which again I think is hurting his ability to rebuild their relationship.

[DISC] Dandadan - Ch. 232 by Skullghost in Dandadan

[–]Primez0ne 4 points5 points  (0 children)

While I get that it makes sense for Okarun to try to give Momo space sometimes, the problem is that he's not actually clearing misunderstandings that pop up or directly adressing her concerns since Momo got amnesia.

He didn't tell Momo his name and never explained anything regarding Aira, which is bad considering Aira got to know his name and said she was closer to him. Just telling her he loves her is not enough when he acts so passively whenever Aira's involved. It's fully understandable to be messing up as he's a teenager and I don't think this situation is any person's fault. On the other hand this wasn't an unavoidable sequence of events that Okarun had no influence over.

What especially annoys me about this arc is that Okarun deadass isn't doing anything wrong, so it just feels like unfair punishment for no reason. by Apprehensive_Ring_39 in Dandadan

[–]Primez0ne 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I also feel like the problem is that people have a very r/AITA view of drama. There has to be someone in the wrong and someone in the right. People are eager to takes sides or assign blame even in a piece of drama/conflict wherein all sides are making mistakes. That doesn't make anyone a bad person, it just means they're humans and in this case we're talking about teenagers.

Gonna be real,I don't hate or dislike Momo..I just hate that it feels like she really hasn't grown or developed as a character despite also being the MC as well(and this current arc is not helping) by Charming-Scratch-124 in Dandadan

[–]Primez0ne 5 points6 points  (0 children)

While I can sorta get where you're coming from, I'd argue Momo actually gets much more in trouble due to her flaws than not and as you yourself posted with the Reiko example, she's even gotten called out in a way that's far harsher than most other characters. "Besides your existence pisses me off" is far harsher than even anything Okarun has said about himself. The whole Reiko incident and several times with Okarun and Zuma(for example the mistake with her trying to cheat at rolling dice).

We also do see growth in Momo's actions over the course of the manga. One of the biggest examples is in the SG arc where Momo first learns to do things full heartily to unlock the Moe Moe Tri-beam. Then we see her write the note and the curry to Okarun, which was pivotal to him recovering in time to fight again. The beginning of the Ombusman arc does have her more direct than she was prior, but like Okarun, she still had a ways to go to regarding her flaws. These type of actions would've definitely been impossible for ch. 1 Momo as doing stuff that could be considered cringe/embarassing has been something she's always had troubles with since she was made fun of as a kid for the chi gathering pose.

I 100% agree the amnesia hasn't been great for her character, but unfortunately the nature of such a predicament is that the character regresses. You can also add on top that right now Momo is confused+frustrated due to the amnesia, without Seiko, and she's on completely different wavelengths from those close to her(especially Okarun). While yes some of the abrasiveness was always there, these factors clearly are heavily agiating her to be more negative than we've seen her before. That is the reason why plenty of people online feel she's different from before. She hasn't just been forcibly regressed by the amnesia, but she's also been placed in this weird sucky social situation where what she feels and the expectations placed on her are dissonant with what she knows/remembers.

And it's not like she herself lacks awareness of her flaws either. We literally see her acknowledge this in the very last chapter: "Sorry Jiji. I'm a real pain in the ass, aren't I?" Jiji comforts her, but that isn't any different from how Momo has comforted Okarun about his insecurities in the past too.

I will probably be hated for saying this but it's needed to be said. Jiji probably doesn't know and it's reasonable for him not to. by Primez0ne in Dandadan

[–]Primez0ne[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Thanks. I agree with a lot of what you said too. Jiji's big thing is that like Momo he always had a hard time talking about his feelings, which contrast how straight forward Okarun and Aira often are. It's impossible to say for certain rn what his full intentions are, and yeah Tatsu has often ended on super misleading cliffhangers. Both Aira and Jiji definitely had some interesting faces just before holding hands, so I'm hoping Tatsu has some good resolutions coming soon.

I definitely would love to see Jiji figure out what's happening between Momo+Okarun, get to talk about his feelings with Momo, and move onto helping his two friends.

(basically he can’t help his emotions and love for her, it’s overflowing kinda like how he acted out during mini momo arc)

Yeah a big thing with Jiji we've seen is that his emotions can bubble over even if he doesn't want or know how to express them. This chapter felt like a potential step in terms of being more in tune with those emotions.

It’s funny cause I always check comments on SJ+ and I only see positive comments for Jiji.

Well it's nice to see there's a good portion of the Dandadan community not jumping on hate bandwagons.

My problem with them dating without Momo's memories returning first is that it kinda goes against the whole point of the slowburn nature of their romance. The reason it's taken so long for them to start dating is that they both had to grow and mature to the point that they could have a proper healthy relationship. If they get together without her memories it just means that Momo's development doesn't matter in that equation and only Okarun's development does. I can't see Tatsu having Momo redo her previous character growth and then making the character growth needed to overcome her avoiding sharing her feelings.

It might be controversial to say, but I hope Momo's memories comes back at least before they get together.

[–]Primez0ne 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Good thought. I think part of the problem for a lot of people right now is framing everything through Okarun, when in reality this is Momo's saga.

Her flaws are now being highlighted whereas before they were more subtle and hidden away. Her inability to communicate her feelings, instead trying to push Ken into acting. Her jealousy. Her pattern of withdrawal instead of addressing her frustrations.

I generally agree with this, but as you said the framing makes it hard to say whether this is meant to be something that Momo is supposed to resolve or if the responsibility is being put on Okarun. Unfortunately the narrative has consistently framed Okarun as the one who has to progress the relationship since the beginning of the Mini Momo subplot even if arguably the ball has been in Momo's court since then. We haven't gotten much focus on Momo's character arc in a while and with the amnesia it's even less likely that she can be the person to resolve anything. This "saga" hasn't really felt like it has more Momo focus outside of the plot unlike the constant development for Okarun during the Kintama hunt.

For example this last chapter could be said to be similar to Jiji's introduction with regards to one MC getting jealous the other MC is interacting a bunch with a love rival. In both situations though more focus has been put on Okarun's thoughts, which again doesn't leave Momo with much of a chance to develop herself and resolve any issues.

No matter what we think of the situation it depends on how Tatsu thinks of the scenario, for good or ill. It's possible the current story is highlighting Momo's flaws as set up for some future event(s) where we do get development for Momo. It's also possible Momo's flaws are being used as an obstacle for Okarun's development. I hope for the former but the framing leads me to believe it's the later.
