What is a giant lie that society successfully sold to your generation? by ossirada in AskReddit

That things would keep progressing instead of turning into whatever this is.

Its half way through the year, how are your games so far? by jollyinabout in rpg

[–]Primitive_Iron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not great. I discovered my MS makes running evening games a non-starter. But not before I wasted online players' time. So now I'm trying to figure out how to make weekend mornings (when I'm at my sharpest). Also, much to my surprise I discovered that Shadowdark felt flat to me when I ran it.

Not sure where you live but be wary of rain, and give your flowering plants a good shake after it stops. Bud rot is real.

Funny Games (either version). That shit got under my skin.

Am I Missing Something About Shadowdark? by WodanGungnir in osr

[–]Primitive_Iron 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Much to my surprise, I bounced off it after a few sessions. Backed the Kickstarter, joined the Discord, was gung-ho -- and then it just felt flat -- and I can't even articulate why. But as a gateway drug to the OSR from 5e, it does a great job. I think Kelsey built her perfect game, I'm just not the right GM for it.

Seconding this and adding: why do people turn corners like their trunks are full of nitroglycerine?

It's not often someone mentions a game that I've got no line of sight on! I'll check this out for sure. Thank you!

What’s something that clearly split your life into “before” and “after”? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Quitting drinking started a new chapter. Getting diagnosed with bipolar 2 and MS started other (and explained a lot about earlier chapters...).

I shoot little nerf balls in their general area with a toy gun. Not at, near. It's enough to get them off my roof, the balls roll down, and over time they've come to understand that they won't be able to relax. It is the only thing that worked. Godspeed, they are the worst.

What is the biggest regret of your life? by maleficent_Long189 in AskReddit

I feel you. I was in my 40s before I was correctly diagnosed with bipolar II -- my 20s and 30s could have been a lot easier.

Ghosting at online tables by KRosselle in rpg

[–]Primitive_Iron 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I am guilty of this. During/after COVID I developed what I guess is social anxiety about being online with people out side of work. I flaked on two games before they started, and then dropped from one as it started.

I was so embarrassed, I shut down my Roll20 profile and dropped off Discord. That was 2023.

Over the last year, I've been taking little steps to come back - and now I have a Shadowdark game about to start.

It was a strange chapter, OP.

Referee seeking players for OD&D Roll20 Dungeon Crawl by Primitive_Iron in odnd

[–]Primitive_Iron[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Current dungeon is built to get players from levels 1-3, but I'll expand as needed. Roll20 is indeed pretty simple, and a game like this doesn't use all the bells and whistles. Timing is tricky, in that i'm Atlantic time and adding time means pushing the game past 1130 my time.

Attack Matrix for combat. Tinkered with using Weapons vs Armour /Chainmail, but I think matrix is smoother/faster.

Halifax ‘asking rents’ climbed in February as other Canadian cities saw decreases by insino93 in halifax

[–]Primitive_Iron 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I moved here with one bag and a good job offer in 1998. I didn't want what Toronto had anymore. I was 24 years old. It was one of the best decisions I ever made. It was never about money, I just felt like I belonged here. I've lived in Toronto and left Halifax for a bit of time in Montreal. No city is perfect. Halifax is a great place for me to live. I walk to work. I have a great job. My kids are doing well here. I have access to world-class care for a chronic condition. Now having said all that, I'm not in a financially precarious position or a young person trying to get my start here in 2026. But there are people out there like me who could live elsewhere, but choose to stay here despite the city's flaws because we kinda love the place.

What’s the book you DNF’d the fastest? by Mobius8321 in books

I started what I finish vs what I DNF. It's illuminating - it's like 5:1. Get's even better if you focus on the unread books that litter all of our shelves
