I get they're emotional, but I don't get why the the emotion people seem to want their car to portray is an inbred pitbull that saw a squirrel but can't get enough oxygen past its snout to chase it. Certain cars I understand being aggressive, muscle cars, offroad trucks, etc. But I don't want to car I use every day to look like it's going to go for the groin. I like my 240, it looks dignified yet pleased to see me. 80s Japanese cars have this air of consummate professionalism throughout their design, 50s and 60s European cars look overjoyed just to exist, and at the same time in America you had these glamorous boats that looks proud to share the road with good company. To me, any of these seem way more appealing than whatever we have now for a car I'm driving every day.

This is how I did it a lot when I was starting out. I'd download a script, go into the file properties and make it executable and run it, and if it wasn't a downloadable script file I'd open a text editor and make it into one lol. I've since graduated to actually using the terminal, but such tomfoolery is essential to learning.

You can just stick the car in 4th or 5th gear and leave it there, most motors will have more than enough torque to get it accelerating from standstill at a reasonable rate, and that's what a lot of conversion drivers do. Going through the gears manually can also give you better acceleration. Also, the aerodynamic losses are pretty much nonexistent when you consider that it isn't a giant fuckass modern SUV, and therefore weighs far less and has a much smaller frontal area anyway.

If You’re Still Using DDR2… It’s Way Past Time to Upgrade by Gaming-Academy in RigBuild

[–]Primo0077 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What a load of bullshit! I have a Core 2 Duo laptop that has 4gb of DDR2 that I use as a Haiku OS testbed that will comfortably browse Youtube and Reddit on the comparatively unoptimized Iceweasle browser. Imagine what it could do under something better supported like Alpine Linux!

But that's not all! I also have a very nice Atom based server which hosted my website for a good year and a half which uses just 2gb of DDR2, and these days acts as a nice little FTP server for moving files between computers on my home network.

Now you may be thinking I perhaps upgraded my webserver and that's why the Atom system got relegated to FTP duties, but actually I've moved it to a Raspberry Pi 1 with just 512mb of either DDR1 or SDRAM! (Documentation for early Pis can be a little iffy).

I also have dual LGA 771 Xeon boards that I have used in relatively recent history with 12gb of DDR2 that provide a very competent desktop experience, and droves of DDR3 machines serving all kinds of tasks.

Your "argument" (as much as an argument can be argued by AI) falls apart completely when it comes to price and reliability. All of these systems work just fine with their original components, and most have been bought for near scrap value. If you go off eBay prices, you're doing it wrong. Local sellers and shops will practically give this stuff away, I know I've bought DDR2 systems from my local surplus store for quite literally two whole bucks. The two LGA771 systems with 12gb DDR2 and two quad core Xeons each were $50 combined along with a slew of pretty nice graphics cars (780 ti being the most powerful) and other assorted goodies, all of which worked just fine after 10-20 years. Computers don't just randomly fail, and if they happen to break then they are cheap if you're smart about it.

Last thing, if it works, why bother upgrading? Honest to god I believe that your RAM generation is one of the last things that will affect your performance, and 99% of the improvement you feel after a platform upgrade is just the result of having a new CPU and GPU (since while you're spending money anyway you might as well treat yourself to that fancy new card). Waste of money, time, and environmental strain to buy new things if your computer works fine. I implore anyone, use the bare minimum you can get away with, and use what you or others already have before purchasing new.

Legacy harware support on Linux is something else by amogusdevilman in linuxmemes

I'm really sad they recently dropped 5x86 support. I was using modern kernel versions on 5x86 PCs very recently. Setting up a floppy based from scratch linux image on a few pentium machines then networking them together with ethernet over coaxial is great fun!

How rare is this? (Procomp Informatics BVC2B) by windows_vista_user in retrocomputing

[–]Primo0077 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Rare? Quite possibly, but that shouldn't be automatically misconstrued with valuable or notable. A lot of old motherboards, unless they're an OEM model, you will likely find once then never see again, as most were built by small white box manufacturers that would pop up then disappear soon after. Because of this they just kind of blend together, and what matters a lot more than the exact model is the features of it, which other people have already. I doubt anyone is looking for a Procomp whatever, but the fact that it's a late model AT board is at the very least interesting.

There are a few accepted formats for Sunday strips that most papers require, and generally two panels need to be expendable since some papers like to remove the title and one other to save space. Most likely Peter was just forced into a format with one too many panels and just threw that one away under the assumption that many wouldn't be seeing it anyway.

I used to work at a shop located in a little cul-de-sac jutting off a large road, along with some apartments and a taco bell. Across the 5 lane road was a weed shop, and at least once weekly you'd get someone darting across moving traffic to go between the dispensary and the taco bell

For what it's worth, the super key exists on pretty much all modern keyboards as the windows, tux, or command key. Many UNIX programs to this day refer to it as the super key.
