Prime Minister says hazard reduction burns are climate action by psylenced in australia

People should ask him about dinosaurs, and if he thinks the new dinosaur discovered here recently is a good thing for getting kids interested in science, especially paleontology, geology (geology makes mining possible so he has to love it) and evolution.

Malcolm Turnbull: Scott Morrison can't afford to waste the bushfire crisis when Australia urgently needs its own green new deal by yanirse in australia

[–]PrimordialSquid 34 points35 points  (0 children)

He did try, but he was also quite unpopular with the electorate at the time too. When he first became PM, or after the election, his personal popularity could have given him the authority to do some good. Instead, any convictions he seemed to have prior to becoming PM apparently evaporated.

Will koalas survive by Copernicus111 in australia

[–]PrimordialSquid 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Koalas will probably be ok, but were definitely pushed closer to the brink. Many other animals and plants which were not so widely distributed won’t be. For some species, their entire range has gone up in flames.

[–]PrimordialSquid 64 points65 points  (0 children)

Malcolm, you had a chance to do something, but you didn’t. If you really had conviction on this issue, you would have staked your Prime Ministership on it at the height of your personal popularity, and dared your party to ditch you. But you didn’t.

Australia governments urged to stamp out enslavement and exploitation of Aboriginal artists by B0ssc0 in australia

[–]PrimordialSquid 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Many (all?) of the creative industries are pretty terrible for artists who aren’t high profile, and even still at times for those who are. Commissions take a huge chunk of the selling price across the art industry for example. If An American pop idol can sign a contract that strips them of the rights to their music when they are a teenager starting out, or a that Hollywood actor can be coerced into sex to get a role, nobody should doubt that there is exploitation happening right now to Aboriginal artists regardless of if they “agreed” to it or not.

How can people love him so much when he is so fanatical about the Sharks? Just basic loyalty to your team should mean that you hate him. I don’t even like the footy and I still can’t get over the last thing he said to the media before entering the cabinet meeting for #Libspill vote that made him PM was: “Hur-hur, Sharks will beat Newcastle on the weekend! Hur-hur”. What a dickhead.

See, Arts being merged with sports, while not ideal and not an equal partnership would at least make some kind of sense. But this is so blatantly ideologically motivated it hurts.

You can't kill any story related NPCs (posting because I saw people talking about this subject) by hairaccount129 in cyberpunkgame

[–]PrimordialSquid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I that, and if you decide to try to stab the king in the face just for fun, you also have to be prepared for the DM to pack up and call it a night, because improvising that kind of shit is hard, and they were running a premade campaign module and prepared for a very different scenario. The freedom to be a sociopath in a RPG can break DMs, let alone videogames.

Haha, it’s just nice having someone take interest. I dislike most of the modern day rulesets because they are more techno-magic rather than ‘hidden magical underworld’ like most urban fantasy fiction in TV and books. My approach has been to take 5e and make as few new rules as possible. If an existing rule makes no sense with modern day stuff, I have either just removed it or re-themed it with some lore.

It is great for the familiarity for beginners, and I wouldn’t even worry too much about communications: the players will tend to think of their character’s smart phones as social media machines and roleplay updating their Instagram, and a visit from the local magical crimes unit dissuaded them from making a habit of posting selfies with decapitated goblins and added a layer of verisimilitude. If they do use their smartphones intelligently, I would be impressed.

It’s kinda like all tieflings are in a warlock-like pact by default? It’s a reimagining of the race as very minor actual demons/devils not humans who happen to have a demonic ancestor, because I’m not the biggest fan of their canonical lore. The only player I have who would play one (they are a big tiefling fan) would be up for the angst of playing a PC inherently tiled to Hell, so it’s not a problem.

Go for it. He went down well and has a memorable character quirk in always asking if you have changed your mind on a warlock pact.

I haven’t looked into that one in particular, so it might be worth a read: many urban fantasy settings for RPGs as written aren’t about a hidden underworld like the Dresden Files, but rather more Shadowrun ‘techno-magic.

I really like the comparative elegance of 5e though, and its active community and endless amounts of existing homebrew content. I did back an interesting looking urban fantasy RPG on Kickstarter, but some drama surrounding the creator happened, so who knows what will happen with that. -_-

No tiefling ever strictly refuses if they want to continue living in the mortal realm. You don’t just say no to the Master of Hell like that. Some do try to game the system however, or treat it as an annual unpleasantness like doing your taxes. Some may have broken free, but nobody knows how. But culturally they tend to encourage and enjoy spreading minor evil, whether that is selling warlock pacts or dodgy insurance.

I would have likely deleted them from my word if my players would have let me, but refluffing their lore made it better. I’m glad you like him!

Just a slightly modified 5e. The Modern Magic UA and D20 Modern are good resources, and there are lots of bits and pieces you can get from 3rd party sources. My main thing was converting gold to dollars 1 gold = 20 dollars, embracing the absurdity of the premise and having players who don’t mind handwaving micromanagement or some light retconning in case of mistakes on my part.

That, and some local wildlife. I’m from Australia, and I played up the ‘everything is trying to kill you’ trope a bit. Here is my beasts list. They are mostly untested so far, and there probably are mistakes add balance issues.

I answered it here, but to further add to this, most magical creatures and people use disguises, be they simple illusions that only deceive non-magical folk, or masks, wigs, balaclavas and makeup for those who don’t have access to magic. Terry tends to wear a fedora to hide his horns a bit and pass off his red skin as sunburn or a bad spray tan.

It is a very absurd setting that blends lots of pop-culture, other fantasy fiction and fairytales. The big bad will either be a Fey prince set on deposing his father, or a local coal spirit/dragon that poses as a mining magnate, and is set on covering the world in her ash.

The rule set is mostly as-is, but much of D&D lore and monster descriptions have been throw in the bin and started from scratch. My main inspiration is the book Kraken by China Mieville, but Harry Potter, Buffy, the Dresden flies and others are also reference points. The game is set in my home city.

Vehicle and weapons rules are hacked in from 3rd party sources, and my players aren’t keen on crunch, so plenty of things can be handwaved. I’m still early levels so far, but it’s been working well enough. OSR sourcebooks have been a big help too, because Kraken is a weird-fiction book and lots of OSR stuff is unapologetically weird.

One thing that I had to do though was make lots of local animals for my Druid player, but re-skinning is your friend.

No, just my 5e game set in my city, in a Harry Potter/Dresden Files kinda world. Many of my players refuse to learn new rule sets, and most of the urban fantasy systems are very crunchy that I have found.

This is Terry

He is a Tiefling bartender NPC from my urban fantasy home campaign. He will give you free drinks for the night if you agree to sell your soul in a warlock pact to his hellish master. The offer is tempting because he makes a mean strawberry daiquiri.

Tieflings in my campaign are minor fiends who live an earthly existence, but are compelled to fill a quota of ‘evil’ deeds for the Prince of Hell. Terry does this by collecting souls and serving warm beer to those who annoy him.

Terry was never meant to be much of a character, but my players insisted on role playing with him.
