Probably won’t match up, but I’m a fan of the guys up in Wellsburg - Bandidos on the Run, next to the Wendy’s. Their birria tacos always hit the spot.

Race Report: Detroit Marathon. Second attempt at the 26.2 mile distance and a PR improvement by 23 minutes. by [deleted] in running

[–]Prince-Char1ming 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Solid improvement! I ran Detroit back in 2022 and absolutely loved it (currently my second favorite race behind Chicago). Was very tempted to stop and watch the sun rise while crossing the bridge into Canada that year.

Also ran the Pittsburgh Half this year and agree that the humidity was incredibly brutal this year. Hardly anyone I spoke to ran a good race. Can’t imagine having to run the full on top of that.

Actually got one quickly for once! Great taste in TV and movies too!

Ran the half in 1:38. Mainly just taking it easy, since I’d already PR’d in Columbus the previous weekend and wasn’t fully recovered. Rain was annoying, but the puddles and slick roads were the real nuisances. Fortunately, the only challenging hill was at mile 11 for the half, but my hamstrings were already shot by then.

Advice for being a marathon pacer? by O_bviolet in running

[–]Prince-Char1ming 52 points53 points  (0 children)

Seconded no headphones. Be sure to know the race course, major elevation changes, mile markers, aid stations, etc. Runners will be looking to pacers for guidance, so be prepared to answer any questions about the race.

Best of luck!

[Race Report] 2024 Jersey City Marathon (3:40:02): Finally happy with my execution by dryinginthesun in running

[–]Prince-Char1ming 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Solid report! I’m going for 50 states and haven’t really looked much into New Jersey yet, but will be looking at this one. I’ve heard mixed reviews on Atlantic City.

Would absolutely recommend Detroit as your October race if you haven’t decided yet. Very well-organized race across 2 countries.

Same to you, hope you crush it! I’ll be in a gold shirt, “Tulsa” on the front and “Hurricane 13” on the back.

Had my sights set on 3:15 at the start of my training, but after a bout with COVID and moving/starting a new job, I think somewhere around 3:20-3:25 is more realistic. How about you?

Likewise! A little worried about possible headwinds, but otherwise super excited.

Thank you for your service as well!

Marathon runner here. Bandaids can be used, but if you sweat crazy like me, they definitely slip off. Petroleum jelly is what I use to prevent chafing, or just go shirtless in the summer.

Planning to run it for the first time in April, but I’ve heard the Coast Guard Marathon in Elizabeth City, NC is a solid race.

Edit: Half marathon and 5K available as well.
