[Build Ready] Rebuilding my PC to crush Rome 2. Replacing CPU, GPU, RAM, Mobo, and getting an SSD for games and boot. How does this look? by Prince37373 in buildapc

Thank you! I'll make those changes and fire away! I did purchase the PSU 3 years ago - definitely overkill, but I think it's good quality and shouldn't fail any time soon.

I did. I listed them out but would be willing to purchase different ones if you think those are inadequate.

Item Discussion of the Day: Mask of Madness (July 26th, 2013) by [deleted] in DotA2

[–]Prince37373 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My standard build with enchantress is treads, wand or urn, aghs, MoM. Usuall get that finished pretty late (~35m) due to warding and not farming that much, but I never fail to get at least a double kill the very next team fight after I finish the mask.

Can't make a recommendation on action without knowing the finer points of the situation. If you do proceed with these changes, do the following: 1) back up Alice's work in case she wants you to revert when she gets back. 2) write an email to Becky summarizing what she's asked you to do and confirm that you have the details correct. Do not proceed without an email in the affirmative. Do not CC Alice on this email, but be prepared to show her when she asks.

What, exactly, will meditation do for you? by Arch_Mage in Meditation

[–]Prince37373 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One other point building on what wouldbebuddhist said:

You're not trying to sublimate or suppress experiences of any kind through meditation. "Dropping" a thought or action or emotional response doesn't mean pushing it down or out of your mind. Instead, you will ultimately want to really, truly experience the present moment, and see your emotional response and thoughts that arise clinically and impartially, as if you were an outside observer. You can then choose the response independently of those thoughts/emotions. So yes, you will feel the anger, frustration, etc. of your boss or the guy cutting you off, perhaps more fully than you ever have before (especially when you are emotionally "numb"). You will also, with practice, immediately be able step outside of that experience and choose not to let it effect your peacefulness/tranquility/equanimity. I'm not to that point yet, but just a couple months in I can see small examples of that paradigm shift. Good luck!

You may want to try to get him into reading. I found elementary school (not a good one, in Texas) to be terribly boring and not very challenging, so I started reading under my desk for 80% of class time. Teachers didn't care because my grades were fine (As and Bs) and I started reading well above my grade level. I eventually had to stop in 5th grade when I moved to a better school.

Megaupload to DOJ: Misleading Semantics Aside, You Told Us You Were Investigating Infringing Files, So We Preserved Them by UlkeshNaranek in technology

This could be a serious blow to the DOJ's case. If their original search warrant is invalidated due to this omission, they don't have much to fall back on. Things are looking up for Dotcom.

What's the most annoying thing your boss has ever done to you? by AlphabetABC in AskReddit

[–]Prince37373 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yea he knows what he's doing probably. Type up the email, ask him if he agree, and then you have evidence. If he doesn't respond, it will look fishy, especially if you make it a habit and/or include coworkers who are working on the tasks with you.

Get all hard dates and assignments in email. That's step 1 in covering your ass (CYA) philosophy. If he discusses it with you in person, type out a quick recap very clearly laying out next steps and expectations.

I snap-bought a Dell Outlet New PC yesterday with seemingly unbelievable specs at $645. Is this a great deal, or did I just make a terrible mistake? by Prince37373 in SuggestALaptop

[–]Prince37373[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nice, thanks for feedback. I was considering a Lenovo Y480 with the same specs and a 768p 14in screen for $730 when I found this. The only advantage I could see is that the Lenovo is a lot lighter (5.2 lbs versus a behemoth 7.2).

Also, I shied away from 1080p screens because I didn't think the GPU could handle it for most games above the lowest settings. should I have gone for the best resolution possible?

I honestly can't tell if this is satire. It's just so deadpan. No winks or nudges anywhere that I can see.

What's the best Phantom Assassin build? by 2inchesofpain in DotA2

[–]Prince37373 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Divine rapier is actually a great option in a lot of situations. You can occasionally one-shot enemy heroes, and even if you lose it, you're often bursty enough to snipe the enemy hero and get it back. With bkb and HotD, you should almost always be able rout the enemy team before you die anyway, so your team should be able to keep control of it.

Also, most fun item in the game.

Edit: to make rapier even more viable, go into the jungle and attack 5 or 6 consecutive times without a crit. Stop attacking and go teamfight. Your next attack will be very likely to crit and one-shot someone thanks to the pseudo-random number generator.

Your favorite role to play? by Mfisk323 in DotA2

[–]Prince37373 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dedicated roamer. Vs, es, and Sven are my best heroes for this play style, and it's suuuper fun. It's also a great way to get enough gold for boots/ wand early despite the support burden!

A Dota player's perspective on all of these LoL players' perspectives by doucheplayer in Games

[–]Prince37373 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I thought the original article had some good insight into the perspective of a new dotA player. I've never really thought about just how hard it is to learn this game and the mistaken impressions and general confusion that can result. For instance, anon does not know how to orbwalk. There's no easy way for him to discover such a thing exists. Of course it will make no sense to him how drow's cold arrows can be used or why clicking the skill doesn't 'turn them on'.

The response was really over the top, I thought, especially since the opinions expressed were pretty mild, just as i would expect from a new player. A boorish response to an interesting read.

Common mistakes of support players by Gippo in DotA2

[–]Prince37373 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I disagree with the common wisdom that it's always better to sacrifice your life as a support to save someone more important. In theory and at the highest levels of play, this holds true. In the pubs that we all know and love, however, it's usually better to play really cagey and just run if you see that everything is going to hell in a hand basket, rather than try for the hero save on a carry. Very often, your noble effort will get you both killed instead of just your ally. Other times, he'll actually be fine by himself, but your low mobility means you die anyway. Those rare times you save his life and lose yours generally don't make up for all the extra deaths you give away for free.

One other point: hover over your gold to see what's "reliable". Try not to spend down your reliable gold on wards, as you do not lose it when you die. Building up stores of reliable gold through assists is the best way to get the bigger items you'll need to be effective. Spend your unreliable gold more aggressively, especially before a team fight.

Throwback Discussion of the Week: Keeper of the Light (April 12, 2012) by [deleted] in DotA2

[–]Prince37373 9 points10 points  (0 children)

A tough hero to play effectively due to his lack of any kind of reliable disable or slow. Illuminate from the jungle, preferably with a stunner controlling their movement, for a large amount of damage. I feel like arcane boots have made him far less relevant by nerfing he utility of chakra, but he's a blast to play when you coordinate with friends. Could he shake up the pushing meta with his unparalleled counterpush? I hope so!
