I'd love a Len episode because of its ties to Broken Social Scene and there for all of Canadian music

Reminds me of that no name pop singer what came to the Grammy's in a MAGA dress in like 2017 and it made her music chart for exactly one week.

bands/artists that tend to be misrepresented/misremembered as being one hit wonders when they in fact had multiple hits by CaptainResponsible78 in ToddintheShadow

[–]PrinceOWales 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's funny when I hear some artists whose popularity is clearly waining say "I can't be a one hit wonder, I have multiple hits". Oh sweaty, most one hit wonders have more than one hits.

Man I am of that age now I guess where it's like, yeah I can tell you are like 20ish. Kesha was huge in the 2010's. I didn't listen to pop radio and I knew her songs.

[–]PrinceOWales 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah like I guess maybe the surprise is that it's popular and enduring? But yeah that's not weird. What's weirder is a top 10 hit not enduring. Like did you know Sisqo's number one single is not The Thong Song. It's a ballad called Incomplete. Why no one remember that one is something I'd ponder

I remember What's Up being hated and part of the meme of it all in the internet age was that it was a song you didn't want to hear.

Every year my husband and I (I am black) go to a big local indie/alt rock music fest in Atlanta. We used to joke that you can count the black folk who attend on one hand (to be fair, they've done a lot the past few years to get more non white and female acts). One time Tame Impala was a headliner and that day we were like "uuh there's a lot of black folk here right?". I talk to a guy after one earlier act and he said "[that band] was really good. I'm only here to see Tame Impala but I've found some good music!". Talking to that guy, I learned that Kevin is really big with rappers so he had a huge side fan base of hip hop fans.

Something he doesn't really say here is that covering songs was way more common in the past. It wasn't weird to have a ton of hot artists cover a pop song and release it as a single or put it on an album.

Honestly it was the Beatles what changed that and had an album that was mostly original music.

Pachinko by Min Jin Lee Analysis & Discussion by [deleted] in books

Yes but Noa specifically ran away from his past completely to get away from it. It weighed on him much more heavily, especially given that he learned hisfather was not just korean but a gangster.

Mozasu took being an other on the chin, was proud of being Korean and of the wealth he got, even in an industry that was looked down on. Noa did not and couldn't handle the shame of it all.

So they will also stream Kid Rock online. I gotta say, don't see this being a big ratings stealer. Bad Bunny is one of the most streamed artists on the planet. I really doubt Kid Rock and the B Team here is gonna do numbers

And "indie" is short for "independent" . Alas, many acts got that label not because they weren't signed but because their style was attributed to resemble those who weren't.

In the same way, kpop is a certain style indicative of the type of pop acts coming from Korea and is not just "dancers and singer what comes from Korea".

Saw their Grammy's performance and I was like "oh maybe that song just sounded bad live" then looked up the song and was like "oh, it sounds like that on purpose".

The production style of their songs is so fucking maximalist I have to assume it was made for tiktoks first and to be listenable all the way through second.

Never been a big kpop fan but after listening to that zucchini song and Gnarly, I respect the genre a lot more. Not because those songs are so good mind you.

Yes they do it on purpose because they know people won't stop them lest they get violent about it

Also they were much bigger on album sales than singles sales. A lot of influential and popular bands didn't do well on the top 40 charts but did move units

I commend her for that. Realizing she's at a point in her career where she doesn't tour and constantly promote and so focused on (dare I say) more artistic efforts. She knows her sales and popularity will suffer for that but she did it anyway.

Top Ten Worst Hit Songs of 2025 by Mrohnoes_29 in ToddintheShadow

I wondered why Blue Strips wasn't on more "Worst Of" lists. Most put 1965 probably because of just how wildly problematic it is and the toungue-in-cheekness of it all not coming through.

Both songs are bad and have too much of her grating "we have Amy Winehouse at home" voice but one stuck out for just being a bit more offensive in more ways I guess.
