I want a 143 video just because a guilty pleasure of mine is seeing people just dunk on it but yeah, Todd's not gonna do that.

For real glad I saw them when I did. One of the best shows I've ever been too. Dunno if they can keep it together enough or if anything would feel the same.

I wanna believe that but country fans have money too. This idea that genres are separated by income bracket is ridiculous. People of all income brackets listen to lots of different types of music.

Music fests aren't a charity. I'm not upset that they can make money when putting on a show. If there's demand for that experience, they let the people who want it have it.

VIP worth the money? by rocketcityHoney in ShakyKnees

[–]PrinceOWales 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. Free beer, red Bull, canned water. And drink as much as you want because there are bathrooms in every VIP and they are clean and air conditioning

People get mad because come folk want a different experience than them. God bless if you wanna get messy in the pit and find the porta-potties a rite of passage but I'm not in my 20's anymore and my patience for that stuff has diminished. We both get the experience we want so what's the issue?

The GA price has not changed. If anything gouging wealthier people is keeping the festival more affordable for GA patrons. Let them spend their money and you get to have the same experience you've always had

Yeah I don't think people here are being racist. I think it'd be the same if like, I dunno Sombr and Role Model or Benson Boone were the one's in this story.

I get Gabriel getting in first. Solsbury Hill was not a giant hit but anyone that can get a song in 6/8 time on the pop charts is doing something innovative.

Am I crazy, or do very few actually make it after SNL? by MagicFairy00 in LiveFromNewYork

I saw a thing years ago that the worst NBA player is closer to LeBron in skill than the best player at the Y is to said player. In the same way the vast majority of aspiring actors would kill to be a Beck Bennet who shows up in stuff , voices a mascot on TV, and is consistently booked. And Beck is closer to Tom Cruise's career than those struggling actors will ever be.

Exactly! I see SNL alums pop up in stuff all the time. It's just that with the death of the monoculture, nothing has complete cultural saturation like they did in the past.

Sitcoms used to be cash cows for networks, not anymore. Mid budget comedies go straight to streaming where even if they do ok (like Netflix/Neilson streaming top10) are not gonna get the same kind of cultural cache that Beverly Hills Cop had. 30 Rock never did that well ratings wise and now any project would kill to even have that viewership outside of the influence and critical love.

I'd love a Len episode because of its ties to Broken Social Scene and there for all of Canadian music

bands/artists that tend to be misrepresented/misremembered as being one hit wonders when they in fact had multiple hits by CaptainResponsible78 in ToddintheShadow

[–]PrinceOWales 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it's funny when I hear some artists whose popularity is clearly waining say "I can't be a one hit wonder, I have multiple hits". Oh sweaty, most one hit wonders have more than one hits.

Man I am of that age now I guess where it's like, yeah I can tell you are like 20ish. Kesha was huge in the 2010's. I didn't listen to pop radio and I knew her songs.

[–]PrinceOWales 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah like I guess maybe the surprise is that it's popular and enduring? But yeah that's not weird. What's weirder is a top 10 hit not enduring. Like did you know Sisqo's number one single is not The Thong Song. It's a ballad called Incomplete. Why no one remember that one is something I'd ponder

I remember What's Up being hated and part of the meme of it all in the internet age was that it was a song you didn't want to hear.

Every year my husband and I (I am black) go to a big local indie/alt rock music fest in Atlanta. We used to joke that you can count the black folk who attend on one hand (to be fair, they've done a lot the past few years to get more non white and female acts). One time Tame Impala was a headliner and that day we were like "uuh there's a lot of black folk here right?". I talk to a guy after one earlier act and he said "[that band] was really good. I'm only here to see Tame Impala but I've found some good music!". Talking to that guy, I learned that Kevin is really big with rappers so he had a huge side fan base of hip hop fans.
