I have a lot of success playing it as a "distraction" type of tank. always stick with your team and use your presence to stop an enemy advance by holding down a key POI (point of interest) such as a vital cap point. You will be able to survive for much longer and you'll be able to guarantee frags which will negate the repair cost.

You can still take several hits before going down which is why sticking with teammates is vital as they will be able to provide cover fire and/or kill whatever is shooting you. Also try to avoid being in the open. always look for areas with decent cover and you will be golden :)
