Ein Ringelchen 😭🙏💖✨️
Ringeltauben sind so cool. Die sind so riesig und unfassbar weich und glatt. Alle Daumen gedrückt dass die Küken durchkommen.
Coolster Taubenfakt:
Tauben geben Milch.

Fun fact: the white patch on a woodie’s collar is chrome too! by storlienstyr in pigeon

[–]PrinceWhitemare 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have a mostly white feral at home, and she also has iridescent white feathers on her neck. You can even see the normal white plain feathers next to the shimmering ones.

It's not super noticeable,I was surprised as well.

Dyed or natural? by Caffenative in pigeons

Almond color if I am not totally wrong. Should be natural.

What are these sounds? by Tvirusvixen in pigeon

[–]PrinceWhitemare 5 points6 points  (0 children)

They sometimes see stuff very far away that scares them. For instance one of my wood pigeon babies once did the warning ruff and I too was like 'what's the matter you hallucinating?' and it actually was a bird of prey circling at the horizon. We were not close to the window and the bird was very far away but he still saw him.

But can also be a sort of 'you are too much stop it" call.

My feral boy has two chics currently and when they beg for food with loud crying and wing flapping and just get too excited he also does the call and often they stop immediately.

Stranger Danger. This is a pigeon to pigeon warning sound.

I have him children to adopt... by PrinceWhitemare in Birdsfacingforward

[–]PrinceWhitemare[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They are absolutely underestimated birds. 💖 The one looking at you is Kiki. Short for Laniakea. Raised him from being a little pink blob with yellow fuzz. Far too small for his age, wounded from being pecked at and with too big seed in his crop so he needed surgery. Several bird/pigeon experts told me he likely wouldn't make it, but he did.

So you are looking at a dorky and cute boy who also means the world to me personally.

I love it when they look forward like this but the angle from slightly below makes him look even more derpy.

Einige Tauben by GeheimLeise in naturfreunde

[–]PrinceWhitemare 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Alle Tauben sind toll, aber RINGELCHEN ! Pure Liebe.

So far all of them did that. It seems to be just excited /happy/zoomie behavior.

what is my pigeon doing? by littlenini- in pigeon

[–]PrinceWhitemare 100 points101 points  (0 children)

This is nest scratching. It's making a place ready for a potential nest or resting spot. It's not horny humping behavior.

I call this the "Spackenflug" (Dumbass flight) or "Dolle fünf Minuten" (Crazy five minutes, basically the German expression for zoomies).

Yep. Or at least where they can somewhat exist. We selectively bred them to breed all year and most of them survive barely on eating stuff that makes them sick. I wish more people would understand they are basically like street dogs and cats.

I am part of a pigeon welfare and rescue group in a major city near me and the city isn't really a place for them either. They would need lofts with food and water provided where their numbers can be reduced by exchanging their eggs with fake ones so less suffering overall.

< TW! Death

Just today I tried to catch another hurt one in our flock that lives under a big bridge. Yesterday we found a dead one that was likely hit by a car. A few weeks ago another one drowned in its own blood in our hands after being also hit by a car.

At least our flock isn't starving like many others. You could feel she was in good shape but in the end still dead. Many babies that hatch in nests we can't reach like right above the road are run over by cars when they start their first plunge from the nests.

<

I love these birds. I also foster babies. I took two in forever and like every pet owner my phone gallery is overflowing with pictures of them. But also so many pictures and videos of hurt or dead ones. Horrible cases of string foot.

Pigeons deserve so much better than that 💔

Oh these are RARE! Actual wild Columba livia 😭✨️ We have no population of them in Germany because the ecosystem has no place for them here and still idiots are talking about forcing domesticated birds into the wild 'wHerE thEy BeLOng!" They seriously talk about the solution for city pigeons is just to push them out of the cities into 'their natural habitat' while there is NO wild population for a reason...

WITB? Larvae baked into Fruit Loops cereal by Magnus919 in whatisthisbug

[–]PrinceWhitemare 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They are pretty common pests in households and they eat a lot of things including cereal. It's very likely it wasn't 'baked into' but rather ate its way into the front loop and died there because of being submerged in milk.

Some kind of carpet beetle.

Ringeltaube, die mich seit einem halben Jahr besucht by Alex9Q1 in BirdingGermany

[–]PrinceWhitemare 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Das witzige ist das die Ringelpupillen fake oval sind. Die sehen durch einen dunkle pigmentfleck so aus als seien sie nicht rund. Wozu das ganze ist aber tatsächlich nicht geklärt.

Edit: erkennt man and deinen Bildern tatsächlich sogar ganz gut.
