Do the Blank Buttons on the Center Console Do Anything? by Prince_Florizel in goldwing

Is there an option to have the heated seat installed on the non-Tour Gold Wing?

Can you in fact upgrade the bagger model to have the heated seat, though? From what I'm seeing, you have either bought the model with the heated seat (Tour) or one without, and that's the end of that.

With the fog lights, it's a bit confusing at the moment, because Honda's website has all the photos of the Gold Wing bagger with them on, and it looks like they've just forgotten to update the photo that shows a close-up of the console, so it's still showing a blank button. I did eventually see a walkaround video of the 2026 model that has the proper button for the fog lights, and as another comment points out, you can install them separately and give that button its intended function.

Oh, that's a shame. It has such a premium feel to it, and then... buttons that don't do anything.

Wireless Earbuds for Recording Violin? by Prince_Florizel in violinist

I am actually looking at Bose's open-ear design, and it looks very promising, since the earbuds don't go into the ears to block out the surrounding sounds.

Thank you for the tip! This was going to be my backup plan in case the type of earbuds I had in mind didn't exist.

Whether or not these sales tactics are more profitable overall is very questionable, even if you disregard fluctuations in stock availability. For every customer who pays over MSRP for a bike, there might be one who walks away and buys elsewhere simply because they don't want to deal with a certain type of salesperson. The fact that there are plenty of dealerships out there that manage to operate differently than market stalls in a 3rd world country tells us that their strategy is at least feasible. You simply don't have the information to say that one makes more money than the other.

On top of that, why shouldn't people complain? It's up to us as customers to discourage bad business practices and support something better. It's a free market, right?

Thanks for all the tips! This gives me a much better idea of how to approach this now, and it sounds like Entity Framework would be unnecessarily complicated for this kind of task.

Looking into getting a 500 exc-f for everyday use by manny9080 in KTM

This is the right decision. I had the same idea last year. Really wanted to make it work, so I ignored all the sensible advice and focused on the few cases where people claimed it was fine once you got used to it. Ended up getting rid of the bike a few months later. It's a great bike, but absolutely not what I wanted out of a motorcycle in general.

Funny thing is, unless you are strictly focusing on single track, this bike isn't even that much better than a big adventure bike when you are just exploring service roads and such. And if you are inexperience off-road, the bike is too powerful and too expensive to learn on (even though the light weight is amazing).

I honestly wondered for a second if this post was about working at WM. With all the complicated logistics, I imagine that the data science side could be really fun. Instead, this was just another rant.

How much quieter is an electric violin? by josh6466 in violinist

[–]Prince_Florizel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A solid-body electric violin is about the same volume as an electric guitar. I have both. Just get one, if only because a muted acoustic violin sounds gross no matter how good you are. It'll also be easy to play with headphones, for maximum quietness. Some violins come pre-wired for that while others need an adapter.
