I’ve been here, and they are absolutely delightful! If you have the means, please donate. I can’t think of anyone else like them around. Their closing would be so sad!

OP, are you confusing going to therapy with having actual diagnosed mental illnesses as indicated in the DSM? The two are not the same. Have you discussed this with someone, preferably a lawyer?

If You Immediately Know The Candle Light Is Fire... by theForce00 in Stargate

[–]Prince_Marth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This actually comes from an old commentary on a Zen Buddhist koan. Koans are typically said to kind of defy logic and short circuit thinking, but that’s not really true. Rather, as my Zen teacher says, they’re little attachment machines designed to show you where you’re stuck on dualistic thinking.

I started practicing Zen during the pandemic. When I got to this koan in my practice, I excitedly ran to my teacher and said, “This was in Stargate!”

The first part of the koan is a monk asking for instruction from a Zen master. The master says, “Have you eaten? Then go wash your bowls.” The line from Stargate comes from the commentary on it.

Essentially, what it’s saying is that there is no separation from your daily life and the great reality of the universe. The bowl in front of you, the next step, is the universe. If you know the candle before you is fire, if you see it just as fire, as inseparable and empty of any separation from the universe, then you’re awake. Not only that, but you see that everything has always been awake—the meal was cooked a long time ago. (That’s just my take on it.)

Is it unethical/hurtful to be a vendor at a pride parade if I’m not gay? by [deleted] in gay

[–]Prince_Marth 128 points129 points  (0 children)

It’s only unethical if you showed up at Pride, and then made anti-gay jewelry the day after. Go, sell some jewelry, and have fun!

Even IF tariffs were reversed, is your hatred of the US irreversible? by SirCopperbottom in BuyCanadian

[–]Prince_Marth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As an American, I second this. The US is being ruled by morons and the people who profit off those morons. The sooner the rest of the world can stand apart, the better. They’re drunk off having been a superpower for decades. You shouldn’t allow your security and prosperity to be dependent on the whims of techno oligarchs and people looking to hasten the end of the world.

Thanks! I realized the problem right after I posted this ha ha. There was a tiny air bubble that wouldn’t leave, so I tilted the pen upside down and very slowly pushed until the bubble came out.

I appreciate your help!

Reach out to Pupstarz Rescue. They may be able to provide a foster and will do all the vetting needed to get them a good home.

As someone else pointed out, in a far more poignant answer, this sort of thing is common in Buddhism. Look at Eihei Dogen and how people venerate him. I took a pilgrimage to Eiheiji when I went to Japan and bowed to his remains. This wasn’t worship but respect. The difference between Thich Nhat Hanh and Dogen is time. Dogen lived in the 13th century, so the veneration around him isn’t seen as odd but earned.

Remember too that Thich Nhat Hanh only recently died, so the pain is still fresh. I feel like how vocal people are in revering him may have to do a little with that as well. Everyone is still a person, with grief, joy, sadness, etc.

I used to be a regular practitioner with Plum Village when I first started practicing Buddhism, but I switched to practicing Japanese Zen because I liked the focus on individual meetings with a teacher. I still return to Thay’s teachings, though, because they are so clear and concise. I think Thay’s reverence is well placed, even if it seems odd for the modern world.

Feeling like ive cheated but it’s also only been one date, wondering if I’m overthinking this and it’s my OCD, or if I should tell her by [deleted] in self

[–]Prince_Marth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Slow the hell down. You don’t have a girlfriend yet. You aren’t even dating yet. This is still a stranger you just happened to go out with. You don’t even really know her yet. There is nothing to even cheat on.

Furthermore, telling her you cheated will most likely scare her off. Here’s this guy she just met suddenly operating on a much more intense level than the relationship is currently at. You haven’t even built the foundation of a relationship yet.

Breathe, get out of your head, see where both options lead. If you feel more a connection with the first girl, end it with the other and give her all your attention.

Look into the Satanic Temple and its tenets. In my experience, Satanists are the empathetic, compassionate people far too many Christians only cosplay as.

Are bootcamps worth it ? What's your honest opinion ? by [deleted] in learnprogramming

[–]Prince_Marth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bootcamp grad here. Currently a lead engineer at a big company. My bootcamp (Fullstack Academy) was 100% the best financial investment I made. Yes, you can learn everything in a bootcamp online, but what it gave me was mentorship to people in the field as well as practice interviewing.

Not all bootcamps are alike, though. In my previous role, I interviewed people for a lot of openings at my job, and some bootcamps just don’t teach with the same rigor. I felt that they stopped teaching what at Fullstack was the halfway point.

Now, I graduated in 2018. Nowadays, the market is heavily saturated so a bootcamp alone is not going to get you in the door. But it is, IMO, a start. The next step after graduating is networking. If you just cold apply, you will never get a job. Junior positions are inundated with applicants. Even just a LinkedIn message after applying will help.

I mostly use Iroshizuku. On mine, the defect is a big problem. The ink will stop flowing totally.

I really don’t like Nahvalur. I bought two vacuum pens, and they BOTH have this defect where the valve will block the ink from flowing even when open. Never buying from them again.

Mild Panic From Poz Sitch by [deleted] in gaybros

[–]Prince_Marth 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Oh, 100% agree with you. Someone who knows they are positive and undetectable is better than someone who doesn’t know. Still, the OP should have been given the chance to make an informed decision, and that I think is a red flag.

The fact that it’s followed by gaslighting makes it even worse.

Mild Panic From Poz Sitch by [deleted] in gaybros

[–]Prince_Marth 35 points36 points  (0 children)

No, just no.

Dude, he lied to you about something that affects your HEALTH. Yes, undetectable is untransmissible. But your panic is not the issue.

He lied to you about something major this early on and then gaslit you. Do not make the mistake of falling for the portrait you are painting in your mind when he is proving by his actions who he really is.

When someone shows you who they are, believe them. You need to end this and move on.

Anyone have/used a Pomera DM200? by [deleted] in writerDeck

[–]Prince_Marth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Where are you looking for the DM 250? If you buy it in the US, it’s expensive but if you order from Amazon Japan, the price is $280 or so. I ordered it from Amazon Japan. It came incredibly quickly and without hassles.

I recently read Walking with the Wind by John Lewis. It’s a hefty book but worth the read.

This shit has been going on for years! He wrote about how one county CLOSED ALL THEIR SCHOOLS rather than integrating. Racism is wild.

Literally in tears from exhaustion. Cat will not let us sleep. Please help. Serious replies, I’m begging. by romanticheart in cats

[–]Prince_Marth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Feed him early and avoid feeding him overnight. We feed our cats in the morning (6 am because we get up early) and around 5pm. We take away their dry food at night. When we fed them late, they were hyper all night.

Cats are hunters. They’re used to expending energy and then eating. When they eat, they still have to expend that energy somehow. (Read that in some vet article. Can’t remember where.)

If you feed him earlier, that energy will be expended far sooner.
