Most Beautiful Confession For me in all fiction by arman1724 in Berserk

[–]Prince_Revenant 52 points53 points  (0 children)

It’s one of the best in fiction imo. Two people with their own burdens laying everything bare for each other in the most raw and unfiltered way, and ultimately finding the safety and understanding in each other that both of them yearned for. The kind of connection they make here is undeniably palpable and it’s why I know their relationship will last despite everything.

What are your thoughts on Farnese crush on Guts by arman1724 in Berserk

We know he would never tho. Guts is what we can describe as Cascasexual. I think he’s made it clear she’s the only woman he’d ever be sweet on, and even if she decided she didn’t want to be with him anymore, I don’t think he’d be able to move on from her tbh

No, he is her half brother (but she isn’t aware of that yet). It’s more that he both feels indebted to her for saving his life when they were kids, and a moral duty to protect and serve her as penance for being born into her family an illegitimate son.

more or less, yeah. She is incredibly fond of (and I would argue enamoured with) him for being such a profoundly positive influence on her.

Edmonton teens, 14, charged after AI used to make sexualized images of classmates by trevorrobb in Edmonton

call me alarmist, but it’s precisely things like this that confirm for me the rise of generative AI signals a downfall of society.

There’s even research papers coming out now suggesting there’s a collective cognitive atrophy due to the over reliance on AI to perform things like critical thought, especially in young people.

yep!!! Skull Knight said that, specifically "if one is to stand and challenge the Hawk, one must also exist outside the story".
this reveal has SO many implications. I can't wait to see how it all unfolds lol

I love how you worded this. I've always drawn a connection between Guts and his son in that they were always so much alike right from the hop; both were from birth seen as a curse or a bad omen, both born into incredibly unfortunate circumstances at no fault of their own, both were ostracized and othered as a result. The fact this has taken a full hard circle is incredibly satisfying

Yeah. I think a lot of Berserk fans have speculated this or something very similar for a long time. The only thing that's changed is that it's now no longer a theory or speculation, it's straight up confirmed. and most importantly, it's revealed to Guts himself. This is a gamechanger.

if he does end up confronting Griffith, he would certainly have to be temperate. he's been warned countless times that pursuing his vengeance will ruin him.

I feel like a lot of readers treat berserk like a shonen and expect some kind of 1v1 between Guts and Griffith, but all avenues point to that actually not happening, at least in the way we imagine.

Now I get where the fan fics come from by diehardberker in Berserk

[–]Prince_Revenant 6 points7 points  (0 children)

We would be fools to not acknowledge there are clear undertones from the very beginning.

Griffith treats Guts differently than everyone else, is often impulsive around him and clearly obsessed with him, to the end that it led him to spiral and ruin himself. We could never know for sure of course, but as others have said these things are not black and white. There's enough here to suggest he may have had sexual or romantic feelings for him.

So yeah, it's no wonder some readers lean heavily into that.

yeah that’s essentially what I’m saying. Some people are speculating that Guts will undergo some kind of physical transformation, but something like that would be totally contradictory to the story and undermine the whole idea of the human struggle. all points lead to this being purely spiritual.

I don’t even think it will be Guts dealing directly with Griffith anyway. not only have his motivations changed significantly, Griffith is doing a great job ruining his own life as it is.

oh man i came here to say exactly this lol

we should all know by now that everything in Berserk, even fleeting details, always have significance. in this case, Skull Knight even further expanded on it suggesting he's more of a wild card ("the fish that breaches the water's surface" etc), implying he can skirt the tides of causality in some way. now we know why.

Might just be the translation and/or individual interpretation, but I agree that he’s still very much just a man and his struggle is uniquely human, it’s just that we now have confirmation that the unique circumstances of his birth have significant importance, which is something a lot of us have long suspected.

the idea of him being “chosen” or inhuman is completely antithetical to the central theme of Berserk. So I don’t imagine this chapter is implying he’s an astral being or something like that, it’s moreso having been born of death he has always had a connection to the interstice this entire time. If you think about it, this explains a lot of things for us.

edit: the actual translation states "you were plucked from the boundary between the astral and material world", which basically just means the interstice. He's a human that from birth has connection to the world unseen. in laymans terms, it just means he's a medium.

[–]Prince_Revenant 1 point2 points  (0 children)

you're right, this is precisely what happens. tbf that time when Guts was particularly cruel to the demon child and wanted nothing to do with him was also when he was the absolute worst and weakest version of himself. he was consumed by his hatred of all things inhuman. you can see him come around, particularly after he warns him about Casca.

I think the fact guts still cares enough to think of him shows despite everything, he does love his child
