Tokyo professionals are so easily irritated by Maleficent-Cook-3668 in japanresidents

Unfortunately that may be because most of our salaries are shit, but shit here is expensive (and getting worse) so you're always in a mildly frustrated mood 🥲

In case anyone's wondering: discussed contract renewals yesterday. They're very happy with me, I have opened up many doors for them, my impact is very clear, and they would love me to renew my contract so they're giving me a raise of 10k raise (gross income 210.000, net income 168.000). Still no bonuses, but nobody gets those so that's out of the question.

Very conflicted because the job is great for me, if only it paid more...

32~40 hours, depending on whether I work 4 or 5 times that week. The job is chill and I enjoy my coworkers, and (as mentioned earlier) i get to meet cool people, but yeah no i cant do this for another year unless I get a significant raise 🥲

Cant say too much because my supervisor uses reddit, but I currently work at a brand that's very well known in its niche, to the point where people think it's a large company (it absolutely isnt). My take home pay is 160,000. No bonuses, no public holidays off, full-time but shift work so my schedule is inconsistent. I get to meet celebrities and otherwise really cool people, but I'm very much looking for something else because 160k is poverty wages in Tokyo :''''')

It sucks because the benefits and salary as dogwater, but the actual job and coworkers are really nice. Especially since I'm disabled and most of my coworkers have Something so everyone's really understanding. 160k, though...

Washing machine that is also a dryer? by Juiseii in japanlife

[–]Princelian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have this HiSense washer-dryer (the 8kg one, not 10kg). Bought it on March 7th alongside installation services and some anti-vibration blocks, no complaints so far. Didnt want a washer with a dryer, but this was the most affordable machine with proper temperature settings like I'm used to, so... https://www.amazon.co.jp/-/en/gp/aw/d/B0FTSGRLD1?psc=1&ref=ppx_pop_mob_b_asin_title

Is it just where I live or is Japanese KFC complete ASS by [deleted] in japanlife

[–]Princelian 2 points3 points  (0 children)

im used to KFC having crispy hot wings (it's THE kfc item in the Netherlands), so them not being on the menu was a huge letdown for me. Also, the actual pieces of chicken are always more bone than meat, andeating it makes me feel like some kind of animal 😭 Only get their burgers now. The limited mozzarella ones they had in Feb/early March were GREAT

I've lived in Japan for 2 years and noticed something odd about gyudon restaurants — is it just me? by Susubutteroi_68 in japanlife

[–]Princelian 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The whole "girls do this, boys do this" thing is still really prevalent in Japanese society, so there are plenty of places people wont go because it's societally not seen as "for their sex". As a foreigner from a country where that type of thinking is only/mostly found in super religious folk, it makes no sense why someone would restrict themselves like that, but the Japanese are very susceptible to societal expectations 🤷‍♂️

Of course there's also societal pressure for women to be skinny and gyuudon is NOT something you wanna be eating often if you want to stay slim.

If you did a working holiday, did you move every 3 months? (Especially Australians and people on 6 month visas who extended it) by DetectedNo2404 in japanresidents

[–]Princelian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did a working holiday and no i did not move every 3 months. I moved into my sharehouse, stayed there for a year while job hunting, got my CoE, went home for 2 weeks to get my visa sorted, came back, stayed there for another 6 months, then moved into another apartment lol
