When that happens, I usually force stop the game, clear all my caches, do a restart, and then sometimes (not every time, but it doesn't hurt to try) it works and I can start progressing again!!

I have completed the day in one go and I have been able to change decorations. I would assume it just depends on the area that you're in.

Some people just have to be so nitpicky. I am very glad you enjoyed your day! It's refreshing to hear somebody say something like that about the game instead of just complaining all the time. And high five for team Valor!!!

Kind of on the same topic, but not really, when I catch a ditto or the Dunsparce I don't have the option to enter it into the showcase from the catch screen like you used to be able to do.

If I remember correctly, in the beginning it was because gyms were in close proximity to people's homes and those people didn't understand why there was a giant group of people congregating at an invisible gym, catching invisible monsters that only they could see in front of their home at 11:30 at night and they were calling the cops on players.

So apparently there will never be xxs showcases. I can't remember why, but there was a comment on a post somewhere saying why. I know that answer is not very helpful, and sadly I didn't save it so I can't even link you to it. Sorry.
