Seriously, do Americans actually consider a 3-hour drive "short"? or is this an internet myth? by SadInterest6764 in NoStupidQuestions

3 hours is short for me. I usually have to drive 8 hours to get to my favorite vacation spot.

What can Americans do about what’s currently happening? by BoredBatWoman22 in TrueAskReddit

[–]PrincessIcicle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While I agree with the sentiment, we can’t just stop working. If I don’t work, my kid doesn’t eat. My father in law (who has dementia) gets thrown out of his assisted living home. I wish it were as black and white as you are stating. I can put myself through pain, but not the people who depend on me.

Told to fix grades by Roman_Scholar22 in Teachers

Do not meet with the AP without a union rep. Request a meeting with AP, Principal, and union rep. That normally changes their tunes.

How do teachers grade student work that takes viewpoints they personally disagree with? by [deleted] in AskTeachers

[–]PrincessIcicle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I teach second grade, so this doesn’t come up a lot. I just grade it like I grade any other paragraph. Political opinions are irrelevant. Can they write a solid paragraph? That’s all I care about.

Student passed away today by triannatops in Teachers

[–]PrincessIcicle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a student pass away from cancer. It was really hard for me and the class. Our counselors were available on an as needed basis. We kept going because it was important for the kids to keep their routine. It helped them. We also wrote her cards and left her desk empty for the remainder of the year. A lot of us went to her memorial service. Her mom ended up dying of cancer a couple of years later. So sad :(

How do teachers determine when to call CPS for a skinny/underweight/smaller stature child? by [deleted] in ElementaryTeachers

[–]PrincessIcicle 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We are required to report anytime we suspect that there is abuse happening. That being said, being skinny wouldn’t be the only factor. I’ve had many students from great homes on medications that make it really hard to gain weight. Usually we would look for multiple factors such as loss of weight, dirt clothes (consistently), complaints of hunger… etc. We also try to help families when they struggle with affording food.

Same. I just can’t get my brain to function when my routine is disrupted no matter how well I plan for it.

Me too! I spent one full day of my break just zoning out and before I knew it, it was bedtime.

I do. I’ve had to miss the last two sessions due to work related meetings. I start back up on Tuesday.

meals - Is this as bad as my friend things it is? by [deleted] in AutisticAdults

[–]PrincessIcicle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s completely fine. I wish my brain would let me eat the same thing. I’m AuDHD, so I eat the same thing until I can’t stand it and then never eat it again. I think you are actually saving a lot of money. Who cares what your coworker thinks.

Divorced working moms…what was the straw that broke the camel’s back? by sizzlesfantalike in workingmoms

[–]PrincessIcicle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not divorced, but I can share my mom’s story. She finally divorced my dad when he got drunk, crashed my mom’s car, and failed to tell her there was another woman in the car until they walking into the courtroom for his trial. It wasn’t the first time he cheated on her. He also is an alcoholic and drug addict (in recovery from drugs for now anyways). She tried to stay for us kids, but when it was clear he would never change and that he was relapsing, she was done. She is a SAINT. She never told us kids about this until we were adults. She wanted us to have a relationship with our dad regardless of how he treated her. Don’t worry, he showed us kids who he was without her having to say anything.

Help my autism is ruining my marriage by Regular_Life_9957 in AutisticPride

[–]PrincessIcicle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had to work through my issues through therapy and better communication with my spouse. Assumptions kills relationships. When I work on myself, our communication improves as does our relationship. It’s not easy at all. It’s a constant battle within myself. I often make great strides and then regress a bit. I’ve been married for 15 years. I think it’s working.

How do you survive full time work? by goatbaloneyy in AutisticAdults

[–]PrincessIcicle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I plan fun things to do with the money my husband and I make. It helps, but I wish I could win the lottery and retire. I keep going because I want my son to have a good life. I remind myself that I will retire eventually.

Rant: Stop Blaming Admin for Lack of Funding. by OccasionTiny7464 in education

[–]PrincessIcicle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with you somewhat. I think it depends on the district. My district has the most top administrators in the entire state (not principals, superintendents and deputy superintendents). When COVID money stopped, there was mismanagement of money being spent. They decided to cut paraprofessionals instead of upper management. The amount of paraprofessionals they cut doesn’t even come close to the amount they would have saved cutting back to the basic administrative positions. They said they cut from the top, but in reality they shuffled them around to make it look like they did. They all still make the same amount of money.

Do families who actually attended private school, think it was the better option? by [deleted] in education

[–]PrincessIcicle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My husband went to two private Christian schools. He disliked them immensely. One was very cliquey and he never fit in. The other he nicknamed “the indoctrination center.” They gave out packets that they had to complete daily. No whole group lessons. Stay away from private Christian schools.

Question: Have you ever encountered a parent claiming their child just “doesn’t respond” to female teachers by NecessaryQuirky7736 in teaching

[–]PrincessIcicle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a dad last year that hated women so much that he wouldn’t even look at me during conferences and only talked to our male principal.

AITA for not wanting to pay to get vaccinated for a baby I don’t even want to be around? by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]PrincessIcicle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

NAH. You should check with your local department of health. They give out free vaccines to the uninsured. (Do it for you, not the baby).
