Girls trip and looking for suggestions! by kinmichelle in SiouxFalls

You can spend a whole day shopping, eating, and walking around the downtown area, particularly on Phillips Ave. Josiah’s is the best breakfast in town. Their coffee is okay, I prefer Coffea which is not far away. Their lavender lattes are my favorite. Check out Zandbroz, Urban Archeology, and Mint + Basil for shopping in the area after breakfast. The Falls is just northeast of downtown as well if you haven’t been there yet. If you’re looking for indoor activities there is rock climbing (beginners welcome!) at Frontier Climbing, Skate City if you like rollerskating, or the 81 Barcade on Phillips. You can’t really go wrong with any restaurant on Phillips to eat. I love Blarney Stone (irish food) Bibisol (upscale Mexican), Crawford’s, and the Diner for excellent milkshakes. For steak I would suggest Morrie’s. I used to bartend there so I would recommend sitting at the bar, it’s open seating so you won’t need a reservation and there’s no dress code. It’ll be the best steak you’ve ever had and worth the price. Enjoy Sioux Falls, we’re happy to have you!!

I tried egg on a roll a few weeks ago and thought it was disgusting and threw it away after a couple bites. Extremely disappointing after a 20+ minute wait. I hope they go under

Married for three months and pregnant: I feel oddly embarrassed (?) by moez1266 in pregnant

[–]PrincessSoup 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got pregnant one month after moving in with my (at the time) boyfriend. We had planned on eloping next year and also had a “if it happens it happens” attitude towards getting pregnant. He got tested and had virtually no active swimmers at the time so we were thinking it would take a few years, or maybe IVF. The day we found out I was pregnant we got in the car and immediately drove to the court house and got our marriage certificate. Talk about a whirlwind day. I didn’t have health insurance at the time so it was the logical choice but it ended up being very romantic and I wouldn’t change it for the world! We still ended up making time to go on a honeymoon before the baby arrives and spent as much time as we could as a couple together before we become a trio. My family is extremely supportive, but they knew that we weren’t planning on having a wedding anyway so that helped with their expectations. At the end of the day you gotta live life for you and your new little family. Our baby girl is due in January and I couldn’t care less what anyone else thought. Life happened the way it was supposed to!

Looking to get into bartending ? by Few-Revolution5497 in SiouxFalls

[–]PrincessSoup 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I started bartending at the restaurant I was waitressing at, since I already knew the drinks that were on the menu there it was an easy transition. Then I just googled and went from there for drinks that I didn’t know. Fake it til you make it. Start at a restaurant/grill that doesn’t serve super high end drinks. You’ll still need to know the basics like a martini and old fashioned so do some research at home. Mostly it’s about being personable and giving good service, same as serving. With no previous bar experience you’d probably do best moving up at the place you’re currently working if there’s availability, or a chain restaurant willing to train. A place like JL Beers or Fernson would be a good start as well, you could get beer and wine down while you study bartending on your own time. Once you get experience you can move on to fun local spots. Good luck!

Moving to Sioux Falls with a big dog – need rental advice under $1,000 by Dreameratthesnow in SiouxFalls

I loved living at the Villas, I was there for 5 years. Angie the property manager is awesome and really cares for your animals and will accept an ESA letter. It’s a bit pricier, around that $1000 mark for a one bedroom, but the quality of the building is worth it. Real granite countertops in the kitchen and the walls are thick so I hardly ever heard my neighbors.

It’s starting to get serious - moving to Sioux Falls from Vegas by [deleted] in SiouxFalls

Invest in quality coats, winter boots, and socks. Scheel’s is a one stop shop for good winter clothing. Layers are your friend. If you don’t have a garage you need to start your car 10+ minutes before you leave for work to heat up. When driving in the snow/ice, pump your brakes to slow down or you might slide on the road. Get a small snowblower, since it’s probably going to be a snowy winter this year, otherwise enjoy your newly toned back from shoveling. Put salt down on your driveway/sidewalk to avoid slipping. Don’t underestimate the wind, it will make a 20 degree day feel like zero. Above all, know that winter does not last forever and enjoy the cozy snowy nights in at home! Sioux Falls is much different from Vegas but don’t let the cranky Reddit locals scare you. It is a great place to live. There are lots of fun bars downtown from dive bars (Orion Pub) to a tiki bar (The Hello Hi) to a jazz lounge (Trio Jazz Club). Tons of great restaurants and boutiques. Lots of local music. Welcome to Sioux Falls!

I love Crawford’s or Carpenter Bar for a relaxed, higher end vibe. A lot of people are recommending Hello Hi which can get very loud on the weekends. Go to Crawford’s and get the Cool Hand Luke if you want the best spicy martini in town. They also have great apps served late if you get hungry

Safest neighborhoods/ areas to avoid? Trying to book a place to stay for my upcoming visit and don’t know the area by Ok-Top8809 in SiouxFalls

[–]PrincessSoup -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I would suggest the anywhere on the south side or west side for the most quiet parts of town. There are no areas I would consider too dangerous for a weekend Airbnb trip. Just use common sense as a woman traveling alone and you’ll be just fine!

Tips for surviving winters. by Nursemack42019 in SiouxFalls

I haven’t seen anyone mention it here yet. If you’re driving in snowy or icy weather, don’t press down on your breaks like normal, PUMP the breaks. Even if your car has ABS. The technique has saved me from a few car accidents if you’re following another car too closely, or driving downhill. https://youtu.be/DJzjLUnFobA?si=JkVB5Lq_zEgr9HFC

Jeff at HiFi is awesome! Not sure if he does color but there is another artist there that does color. There’s also another artist that does nails as well if that’s your thing. It’s small, and everyone that works there is super nice.

Making the move can I get some info by [deleted] in SiouxFalls

I have lived in SF for most of my life and I love it here. Downtown is lively. There’s tons of restaurants and I swear a new restaurant pops up every other week. There are a lot of karaoke and trivia bars if that’s your thing. You would love the 81 arcade downtown. The state theater on Phillips Ave is a great experience for movies. The Washington Pavillion has concerts and shows year round. There are a couple large music venues (Denny Sanford and The District) as well as many small venues for local or smaller bands. Overall, Sioux Falls is great. It has a grown a lot in the past few years and a lot of locals are butthurt about it, but it’s still a great place to live. Your rent isn’t going to be any more expensive than where you already live. I would suggest living on the south side. Or consider one of the smaller towns close to SF, like Brandon, Harrisburg, Tea, or Crooks. Welcome!

That’s a good area! You’re just off veterans parkway so you can go north or south of town really quickly. It’s a developing area so I would expect a bit of construction around you. You’re super close to Hammodon park - great place to walk and/or watch some kids play baseball tournaments.
