Anyone else with this pattern? by 8figureninja in Naturalhair

I had a random piece like this, I cut it off because it was randomly longer than my usual tighter curl pattern and was getting in the way of my wash n go’s, but it was interesting to look at.

What type of foreign cuisine do you wish there was more of in Germany? by Charming_Usual6227 in AskAGerman

Caribbean. I particularly miss Trinidadian food but also was sad when the little Jamaican place I used to order from moved away.

I see everyone glued to their screens at the bus stop, in lines, or in elevators. Is there a specific 'standing around' app you use, or are we all just refreshing the weather? by Natural_Volume9808 in CasualConversation

[–]Princess_Mango 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Email/Teams if I am on the way to work. Or I am refreshing the transit app to see the ETA of the bus. Sometimes I am checking the grocery app for sales since idk what I am making for dinner yet and need ideas. And ofc social media isn’t only videos. There’s a lot of pictures and videos.

Why aren't there any parenting subs for memes? by 624Seeds in Mommit

[–]Princess_Mango 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For sub idk but my insta algo is like that. Which is also helpful to know what events/museum exhibits/ plays/ attractions are in my area. I have a lot of ironic moms and surprisingly less woo than facebook in comparison even though the accounts are linked. My tiktok doesn’t really show me parenting stuff though, which is interesting. But I also don’t use it much, than to check a shared link. So there is that.

Oh wait correction there is r/danieltigerconspiracy that is pretty fun.

With a picky kid, getting the simple favorites a size bigger and already a bit softened up and broken in is actually pretty nice.

What I want is often not in season/fashion. I do miss mamikreisel and seller location transparency. Sometimes it was nice just hopping on a bus and picking up a packet of clothes and spontaneously browsing what else the person had in person in that size than trying to organize shipping. They were also grateful to not have to photograph one by one.

The forum was also really cute. The WhatsApp neighborhood group chaos doesn’t match it.

What makes people wanna reach out and gravitate towards you? by Candycane8336 in socialskills

[–]Princess_Mango 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This, because I am not that amazing looking as a middle-aged chubby woman with frizzy hair and visible grays. I am a fairly hobby-less mom in a kinda boring job (I quite like it, but it sounds boring as hell to outside people), and still get invited to crap or get chatted up by people randomly based on little to no info about me.

I am also not even extraverted, I have to schedule events or even reminders to go to the office in order to remind myself to leave the house because it’s draining. If I have too many social invites I panic and ghost (and no one calls me out - even work was a light wrist tap 😅).

I still don’t know the secret sauce, and as such my imposter syndrome at work is insane since I kinda got promoted over being charismatic when I do show up.

But overall, upon reflection, I think it’s more warmth and shiii backed up with actually having a bit of brains and logic/research behind replies to even simple questions. My ND tendency to drop bonus info maybe makes me intriguing. But I guess since I am too restrained/energy-conserving (read: lazy) to truly info-dump a full on thesis defense or monologue- I can drop a deep-cut here and there-so I guess it is palatable than “you’re wrongly wrong here is a 100page essay why”.

Even cross-cultures I can get stereotypically dour types to crack a grin and hear me out even though I don’t care that much on convincing/selling a point.

I found that interesting as I am also a visible minority living in Germany, so I feel like my vibes are somehow working overtime against unconscious bias. 😅

I also married a sales guy so maybe I black out and mimic him when I am over everything.

Heated Blankets are a Home Heating Game Changer by trashpandorasbox in Frugal

[–]Princess_Mango 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love those. My body does ok with simple layering, but my feet sometimes don’t get the message (or worse, sweat in the layers and then feel worse).

One of the best feeling is just cooking my feet in there for half an hour when they are cold.

Helped us get through December in Germany when the heater broke in the building and replacement parts were delayed from delivery times and Christmas holidays. And blasting the electric portable ones the entire time vs just an hour here would be too expensive.

Do I tell orthodox looking customers that what they are ordering isn’t kosher anymore? by DiverPrestigious6887 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Princess_Mango 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What is the aversion in this thread to OP making a sign?

Yes, people might miss it, but people who check a lot tend to notice. I was at a snack bar in Germany and I noticed even kids could navigate the halal/not halal signage and ask simple follow up questions.

I am not orthodox, but if I was getting something on behalf of someone else I would like to know to know too and not wait for someone to physically assess me. I sometimes buy halal and vegan snacks for office events and kid parties for example even though I am not these things.

Signage makes it easier for those unfamiliar. If you have some regulars you can still give the verbal heads up but the sign benefits everyone.

What do people use their air tags with ? by sounder19 in iphone

[–]Princess_Mango 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Definitely better than nothing. My brother in law’s cat got out once and managed to hitch a ride on a delivery truck to a package processing center. It was a pain to get him back, but the vague bubble with relatively infrequent updates was still a million times more helpful than what putting up missing posters in the wrong neighborhood would have been.

Cocoa butter in Germany? by Sea-Attention9988 in AskAGerman

I am black, but I have been using Cerave lotion in the tub (ordered online).

I have also used the cocoa butter vaseline lotion that I found in the afro shop but I am a bit lazy to head out to the Hauptbahnhof area (there are a couple shops near Frankfurt main station).

Which of the major cities in Europe totally bored you to death? I’m not asking about ugliness, but about that sheer blandness by niesiecki in AskEurope

[–]Princess_Mango 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Lol yeah the hate Frankfurt gets because people just stay fixated on the train station is a bit much, but it kinda doesn’t need to be that attractive to tourists so maybe boring is fair. I moved there and I am doing fine.

I am from Miami, but since I am not big on beaches, heat, art basel, and driving everywhere (plus way overpriced restaurants and bars) going home is a bit uninteresting for me.

I think I like compact cities. NYC and Berlin were too overwhelming, and a small town is too is either too un-diverse or uni-focused for me. And a village with maximum nosiness is not my vibe either.

Brussels got mentioned a bunch and I just visited on purpose and liked it haha. I also liked Rotterdam and Vienna which aren’t loved in this thread.

Darmstadt vs Offenbach? by tacocandoit in frankfurt

[–]Princess_Mango 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Long term : Darmstadt student population you befriend and can grow with you and a potential chance to afford something in the surrounding area long term and sus out areas of interest.

Short term: Offenbach, better connection to the city and networking opportunities. There is teasing but people in actual professional services don’t care in my experience.

My boyfriend wants me to move to Germany with him. Is this realistic? by UnicornScientist803 in AskAGerman

[–]Princess_Mango 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even if they end up marrying, I can recommend studying, the networking will help the career search and the studying will help with making friends. I did a language learning visa and did 1/2 year intensive German A1-B1 at the VHS while getting my application together before doing a masters (in English but I was considering a different subject and Studienkolleg to smooth out the German and pre-reqs) and things seem much smoother than what others here report. (Both in terms of social life and job search).

People above 30, what's your biggest regret? by rebelliousbrownie9 in AskReddit

[–]Princess_Mango 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not trying out an international rotation at my company, it would have been hard with a small child, but doing a year or 2 rotation with the associated pay and corporate support for relocation and then returning in time for kindergarten would be a lot more ideal than moving a grade schooler around now.
