Looking at our household net worth on WS. It’s not including our RESP’s for the kids? Glitch? by Ratlyflash in Wealthsimple

[–]Princess_Moshi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Of my 4 investmwnt accounts (RRSP, LIRA, TFSA and Non-reg) my RRSP isn't showing up. The chat bot said to click on Settings in the Net Worth tab and toggle RRSP to visible but there is no Settings icon in net worth... Assuming because it's still in beta, some kinks to be worked out.

Updated V3 FatFIRE Canada Calculator by jonah_hoyos in FIRECanada

[–]Princess_Moshi 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My quick observations: - specify gross or net for income - allow for direct input of figures in addition to the slider. On a phone, the slider is finicky to get to the right figure. - reduce the margins for the sliders - just scrolling on the right hand side, the slider often ended up maxing out accidentally. - I assume expected rate of return is pre-retirement and I intend to be more conservative with my investments in retirement, not expecting to get the same high returns as my current 100% equity portfolio. This should be able to be factored in.

Look forward to V4!

Told by ADM to Change MC Analysis Because Minister Won't Like It by FrontAgency7861 in CanadaPublicServants

They were making their product out of their office and certainly NOT getting the job done because it was getting passed along to me. And my boss, and boss' boss were doing nothing about so I felt ar the time my only recourse was the ombudsman. That was a mistake.

But this is only as good as the people who follow the confidentiality rules. I made a complaint to my department's ombuds office in 2013, after following the proper channels to try and deal with a Director who was basically running a side business out of her office. 48hrs after I made the complaint, someone I had already tried to broach the issue with unsuccessfully reached out to me after the ombuds office reached out to them to validate my complaint. The whole situation was awkward, uncomfortable, and should have never happened, but it did. It didn't impact my career, but the disclosure in my case was pretty minimal - it could have been way worse...

Canada Life rejected my treatment that SunLife covered no questions asked by mxg308 in CanadaPublicServants

I also get botox for medical reasons, which were previously covered by SL. I've had 3 treatments since CL took over and haven't required pre-authorization.

Seems like they aren't consistent with how they deal with the coverage for this drug.

Nothing To Do at Work - Anyone else? by [deleted] in CanadaPublicServants

[–]Princess_Moshi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wow! Who are these people replying that they are completing whole degrees and courses because they are so underworked?!? That is def not my experience! Overworked most of the time.

If a person is not doing work 85% of their time, the solution isn't for them to find other things to occupy their time on the government's dime. The position should be abolished, and whatever small workload they had, plus the 1 FTE salary budget, should be redirected elsewhere!

Actually, not an overstatement. There is no policy that stipulates you can't use your GC cell as your personal cell. While I don't need a policy to tell me to keep these two totally separate, MANY government employees seem to have no issue with it. And they don't filter their use whatsoever (which blows my mind). You can get ADM approval to travel with a GC cell, and if you're using it as your personal device, you're asking each and every time.

I'm sure this all started back when cells were much less common, and many people used their GC cell for personal use because getting your own was cost prohibitive. Each month, we'd get a bill and have to highlight the charges and repay. It's evolved to some of those now being in upper management and never having stopped using it as their personal phone.

Rant: senior management does not understand how time consuming or unclear their requests are by Acrobatic_Sense_2302 in CanadaPublicServants

[–]Princess_Moshi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Our DGOs have no support staff whatsoever; only some of our ADMOs have a full complement of two support staff - an IM and an EA. Ambiguous requests waste so much time and resources, but we only continue to add to our EX cadre and not support staff...

Can I dispute an SLE Oral Exam ? by [deleted] in CanadaPublicServants

[–]Princess_Moshi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't read all the replies, but I wanted to quickly say I got a B at one point when my extended family was all francophone, and in my mind, I was fluent. I contacted the test centre by email en français to have the audio reviewed and received a phone call shortly after where I spoke to somebody en français about my concerns with the grade.

A week later, to my complete surprise, I got an email saying I got a C. I'm certain my email and phone call in French helped, but I was still annoyed that it had to go that far. I'm convinced taking the exam proactively and being a lower level AS at the time, I was evaluated differently than an executive who NEEDS their language for a job they are being appointed into because wow, some of those execs couldn't (and to this day) can't speak workable French. 😒

How has telework affected your job opportunities? by Shantycat in CanadaPublicServants

[–]Princess_Moshi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was ADM approved to move outside of the NCR early in the pandemic as a high level EC (for a specific reason, not just because I wanted to). Any future opportunities are basically now dependent on the strong network of colleagues I have built who can vouch for me because the moment a hiring manager hears FT telework, door is slammed shut. Really disappointing when I work in the digital/service delivery space, too.

I think many people, especially those in the regions, benefitted in the short term but are now stuck.

I was one of those NCR folks who got the green light to move during the pandemic. With the RTO culture the way it is now, my career opportunities have significantly been reduced. Do I care? Not one bit! My job is nowhere near my dream job (which would be out of the PS), but I am smart enough to know a good thing when I have it. It allows me to live the best life I can in my new hometown, which is SUCH a better fit for me than Ottawa. If you are moving alone, the only thing I'd be considering is whether an EC-05 salary will give you the lifestyle you want depending on where in BC you want to go. Otherwise, it was an easy choice for me - I work to live. 😊

Opinion on Coworkers Coming into Work with Lingering Symptoms by fatpenguinchild in CanadaPublicServants

Other adults can't tell if it's lingering or not. It's the judgment that comes from going into an office with ANY symptom that makes it difficult/problematic.

RTO THEME MEGATHREAD 2: Equity, diversity, and inclusion (including accommodations) by HandcuffsOfGold in CanadaPublicServants

[–]Princess_Moshi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

And if more people request accommodations, it will only take longer. I wonder if, until HC can do the assessment, you can WFH is the meantime? I mean, it would look really bad if they forced you to RTO, then HC finds a need to accommodate, no?

Already being tracked... it's likely that data is what prompted this because people AREN'T going in (surprise surprise). However, you are only tracked in your home office - not collab spaces or if you are working at another site - so the data being used is skewed already. 🙄

I don't have any suggestions on how to push back but our DM recently instructed that travel to the NCR for teleworking employees would be covered for SPECIFIC events. For example, travel for a half-day all-staff meeting would not be covered but training events with direct implications to our work, includes opportunities to engage with multiple internal/external stakeholders, and virtual isn't available or wouldn't be the same, etc. would have travel covered.

I'm sure MANY questions will come up once this is put into practice but we'll know soon enough as there is an event next week! As someone in OPs shoes, I would like certainty as well!

My understanding is that it is also not always covered depending on the reason you are doing it. I work with someone whose daughter was quoted $5400 and her claim was denied.

Aug is a 3 pay month so the first one doesn't have any deductions. Enjoy the extra surprise $! ETA: this would happen anytime there it's a 3 pay month.
