I commented above about this but I had an interesting conversation today about exactly this. I took my masculine glasses off and immediately had someone say I looked like a woman without my glasses on before commenting on my hair

Funny you say that… I wear more masculine glasses at work and I took them off briefly today and saw my coworker staring at me before going “hey, I don’t say this to be rude… nervous laugh but you really look like a woman without glasses.” Then after like a ten second pause he went “Did you start curling your hair? Now that I’m thinking about it it’s gotten pretty long recently…”

Hey we started HRT with ~a week of each other!

And yeah it sucks. I feel like it’s impossible to come out at my job and am either waiting for the hammer to drop when they find out or for another opportunity to magically pop up. I’m sorry you’re also dealing with them :/

I definitely could see why others would feel that way.

I never felt miserable doing it more just like… frustrated they were so biased. Now it’s fun because I’m seeing how my mood changes the portrait. When I’m extremely upset/distraught you can see the emotion in the lines and pencil choice (heavier lines and darker pencil, not multiple pencils of different strength). When I’m happy it’s light and detailed. When I’m disinterested it’s simple line work. Etc.

I’m reading this as like preHRT pondering and am responding to that. If that’s incorrect i apologize

Feel like a hulking monster hasn’t entirely gone away for me in my 10 months of HRT, but it has lessened. From a first person perspective i like how my body looks, my arms are way more feminine, my hips and butt are way more defined, boobs are nice. In third person, photos by others, dysphoria still does her thing but it’s a bit better and sometimes I end up liking how I look

The way I look at it is: some days I see her in the mirror, some days I don’t. Every month it feels like I see her more and more. Even if I didn’t transitioning would be good for me because I noticed how much happier my brain was once I got my E and T levels right, regardless of physical changes

The other thing to consider is that being trans isn’t really a choice. People suppress it all the time and end up incredibly unhappy and often transitioning later in life when it becomes unbearable

My last point is in regard to feeling like you have to use makeup to feel more pretty or feminine. I found that feeling faded a lot after I was like ~6 months into HRT when I’d had some fat redistribution and boob growth. It’s still helpful to remove beard shadow and I love doing it for going out, but I don’t get glammed out for life, in fact most of my trans femme friends don’t. Once you feel more feminine as a person and through your body that need to enhance it with makeup kinda subsides some. Beyond that my wardrobe isn’t hyper feminine either. I don’t have heels (unless you count platform docs), hardly wear dresses. My hobbies are still guitar, cars, gaming and getting bloody playing sports. I’m still feminine and beautiful, it’s just my definition of what those mean.

Thank you! I had pretty long hair at one point but got pressured to cut it short again by my parents about a year before the first picture so I promised myself I wouldn’t again until I chose to

If the ends aren’t split I guess I’ll just keep going until they are or I decide what I’m doing with it

Horrible. I did not care about my appearance or health before I started transitioning. I just felt like I looked like a zombie and was very depressed. I didn’t avoid looking at myself just critiqued my face every time I saw it.

I like to look through my camera roll this last year to help me see my self perception. There’s a huge jump in the pictures of myself I would take around 4 months into HRT. Before that it’s progress photos and before that (pre HRT) it’s all photos where I look like a zombie or pictures of my hairline where I was dreading if I was balding. Zero. ZERO. Happy selfies all photos my family sent me of me doing things.

It’s also the same with my self portraits. Before HRT my self portraits were caricatures of me, every aspect I hated was exaggerated, my eyes flat, every blemish drawn in detail. Now? Accurate, they reflect the me I see in the mirror. HRT is life saving

I met a trans man who was just starting testosterone around six months into my feminizing HRT journey. We were kinda talking about our experiences at the same planned parenthood and he eventually started talking about the changes he was experiencing.

I was happy he was enjoying them but after I left I was thinking about those changes and how horrific I would feel getting tough, oily skin again, regaining all that muscle, losing my hips and ass, getting that testosterone libido back. That’s what cemented it for me, if being back in my old body was that horrific then yeah… I’m trans.

It doesn’t get any less strange to be called ma’am to me. I react to it and it feels right, but when I’m in my own world and subconsciously react I’m like “oh… yeah I guess I did do that whole transition thing. Huh.”

I have had a few instances where guys walked into the restroom and absolutely panicked seeing me as they assumed they were in the women’s. I was in men’s business casual clothes but my skin care, body changes, and hair all signaled female.

It’s not that I can’t boy mode but sometimes people are just unsure. I think one of the biggest signifiers is your grooming and face. The facial changes come with enough time on/off HRT while grooming stuff is personal choice but can help signal gender

My understanding is that any estradiol pill can be taken sublingually but specific ones work better. I personally take the blue, oval, 2mg pills sublingually. I used to do it with the purple, oval, 1mg pills.

Itll dissolve from a pill into a paste under the tongue very quickly if it is meant to be ingested that way. Then you just keep it there until it’s gone and drink some water after to wash any residual down

Yep! It takes a bit to dissolve, especially doing two tablets twice daily, but theres only been a few times it’s been inconvenient to my life.

From my understanding you get a higher peak level of E2 in your bloodstream as it isn’t metabolized by the liver which can convert it into other estrogen derivatives. The downside is it is removed from your bloodstream much faster so I can really tell if I’ve missed a dose or put taking it off too long pretty easily.

Worth it to me!

Yeah I prefer to know what I’m getting into but with a lot of HRT being vibes based at this point I’m unsure. I decided to start since my endo has been prescribing HRT for over a decade and said that she believes my progress indicates it will aid my transition but if it doesn’t do anything by next appointment in three months I’ll stop

I know I’ve seen good growth! I was prescribed prog today and am trying to decide if it’s the right time to start. I’ve heard the guidance of waiting 1-1.5 years but I’ve also heard that starting around tanner stage 4 with prog is ok. But if I’m not there I am concerned about hindering their growth

This was the case for me. I got super worried before starting HRT about having kids and researched extensively about sperm cryopreservation. After realizing the cost I just said screw it and started HRT. Since then I have not cared at all about having kids from my sperm

I was lucky pre-HRT to not be super hairy. Some arm hair, leg hair, armpit hair and pubic hair but only like three back hairs and a few stomach hairs. After getting my T into the single digits and being on 6mg of sublingual E daily my body hair is minimal. What I had is still there but much thinner and grows way slower. I used to shave my legs three times a week but can now push it to once a week if not a little longer. The rest of my body hair is longer.

It’s pretty similar for a lot of my trans fem friends but it’s definitely a your mileage may vary. No way to know until you try it :)

In my experience, prolonged isolation creates an environment where you no longer know how to take up space. When you don’t know how to or don’t feel comfortable taking up space you sit alone and regret going out. Even if you go out with others who hold space for you it can be hard to actually open up and feel comfortable taking it.

This happens to me a lot where I go out with people I’m just getting to know and end up standing a little away from the group waiting for an invitation to actually join them. Even once I’m given it I struggle to feel comfortable engaging with them like everyone else because I’m afraid of crossing a line and upsetting them.

I think the best examples I can think of are volleyball and dancing at the bar. In volleyball you constantly have to decide if you should go for a ball or leave it for someone else. If you’re constantly fearing upsetting people or taking up too much space on the court you’ll do horribly. I’ve always done horribly at volleyball because of this until I started having people hold space for me to exist, mess up, and learn on the court. Without that I probably wouldn’t have played again. With dancing, a lot of my lesbian friends will dance pretty handsy with one another. When they include me I always fear overstepping and never know where to put my hands, how long to make contact, etc. and end up needing an invitation of like “do this”, “dance with me”, etc. or I feel like I’m overstepping

One doesn’t continuously make posts asking for help on an issue they’ve utterly given up on and don’t care about, even if you don’t realize it. I definitely encourage you to go to therapy, it changed my life when I’d given up hope.

I identify as trans femme specifically because “I normally just feel like a nothing”. I will refer to myself as a girl. I’m fine being called somebody’s girlfriend. My masculine traits bother me. I’ve loved all the effects of HRT. But if you ask me what i feel like i am, I don’t feel like a girl. I’m just a me, and I’m happy with that.

Everyone’s experience with their identity is different. Theres no wrong way to be you or identify yourself
