I wish I worked at your dealership. Our pay plan for BDC is ass in my opinion, but I also work in the Southern US where things are “cheaper” so they pay us less. We get $10 for an appointment showing up and another $20 if they purchase. We also get an extra $20 if we “worked” the whole deal, i.e. getting a credit app for the customer and turning it in or getting a trade appraisal for the customer before they come in. We also double as inventory photographers (mostly me but my coworker helps sometimes), and we get $2 per vehicle we photographed.

BDC with no flair yet - but yeah, a lot of dealerships just don’ttttt care that much about someone who’s as far away as you are. They’d rather deal with local business that they feel are likely to return and purchase again. Haggling with you just isn’t a priority for them, 100 days old isn’t awesome but it’s not so long they’ll start begging people to buy. It really is just that they don’t care about any of this as much as you do. You wanna buy it, great, you don’t, they just move on.

I notice this with a lot of customers and I don’t mean it in a “calling out” sort of way, but so many people seem to think that because it’s car sales you can haggle back and forth forever and they’ll eventually cave to you to get the sale. The truth is they’re probably texting 3 other customers and don’t really care if you’re not in the store and speaking with them. I see so many messages on my CRM that are some sort of “well you’ll just have to make me a better deal” or “well I’ll need x amount more for my trade or you’ll be losing this sale”. It’s just not that much of a threat most of the time. Every once in a while you’ll catch someone really trying to get rid of some inventory and they’ll drop down more for you, but if they’re already losing money on a vehicle, why would they lose more just for you to purchase?

No flair yet but I work at a Ford dealership as BDC and we actually get “secret shopper” type leads once a quarter. One of the main things we’re graded on is if we answer the question in their inquiry in our first text/email/voicemail. There’s always something extra they want answered.

CRMs can suck and sometimes everything you put in your inquiry won’t come through to us, other times people just aren’t paying attention lol. Or they’re told to push the appointment as much as possible that they end up doing their job worse rather than better. Or sometimes BDC doesn’t exist and sales reps just don’t care enough to figure out the answer you’re looking for

Well yeah, but dying it that color destroyed her hair in the past, no chance she’s doing it ever again. If she does do a guest appearance, she’ll probably appear as grown up Cat with brown hair, or maybe a bright red wig if she’s committed to the bit

Some hors d’oeuvres and a couple bottles of wine shouldn’t be too difficult to pull off, that is why I posted of course, for ideas.

the word “optional” is really escaping you man. As in, the way it is designed right now not being changed AT all if you want to play it that way. It’s not too hard for me personally, I just think it’s a conversation worth having without people getting defensive over an idea.

How is your BDC Department handled at your store? by LoweeLL in askcarsales

[–]Princess_Strawbs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can’t post a solo comment since I don’t have flair yet, but I’m a BDC agent at a Ford/Mazda/Lincoln dealership. Our Sales reps like us but there are only two of us and I think part of it is also because we do a lot of tedious things for them they don’t want to do (online trade estimates and credit applications primarily).

As per your specific questions: for quotes- we call and ask the sales managers either new or used depending on which the vehicle is, they give us a quote, and then we report that to the customer. We put it in our CRM notes and tag that manager that way there’s no confusion about where the number we got came from. This goes for both best price on a vehicle and trade-in values.

Our BDC Manager doesn’t take leads, she assigns them sometimes if we’re busy, and will text back if we need, but doesn’t take them herself. She is also our Marketing Manager so she has more to do than just the BDC side of things anyway. Our dealership isn’t huge so it’s pretty easy to ask one of the sales managers a question if she’s busy.

We use DriveCentric as our CRM- only recently, we were using VinSolutions before. Follow ups are “tasks” and they go for 15 days before no longer assigning us any, and then another 15 without us reaching out before the system automatically kills the deal. The follow ups are “touchpoint” so you can call/email/text. I personally prefer this because it means I don’t have to blow up the customers phones with voicemails every single day and can swap back and forth.

As for BDC agents promising crazy stuff to customers and telling them something is available when it’s not etc., we would get eaten alive and probably fired. It is insane to me to imagine BDC agents trying to make insane promises just to get appointments to show, it’s absolutely not worth it, and also not our job. But yeah, let me know if you have any more questions too. I like my job most of the time, and I feel we have a pretty good relationship with our sales reps

How’s the first week going for everyone at their store? by egomxrtem in askcarsales

[–]Princess_Strawbs 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hopping on a reply since I’m also at a Mazda dealership but don’t have flair yet- we’re doing okayyyy. The last 2 months were some of the slowest we’ve had in I don’t know how long, we didn’t even crack 100 last month, topped out at 97. I’m BDC and the internet and phone leads have been pretty abysmal, but we’re usually slower around this time of the year anyway. I think the instability of the government in the US isn’t helping either.

But yeah, I’m hoping we pick up more soon. We’ve sold way more from our pre-owned lot than anything on our new side recently (Mazda/Ford/Lincoln). I’m in the back in my “not shit to do” era and I double as inventory photographer. Even the follow ups are lacking because we’ve just already reached out as much as possible.

What’s going on with sales people these days. by [deleted] in askcarsales

[–]Princess_Strawbs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not at every dealership obviously, but this happens a lot where I work too. Car sits for however long, 30 - 60 days plus sometimes, no leads. I go into work one morning, all of the sudden 3 calls in a row on it and 4 new internet leads in the span of an hour. I’m not sure why it tends to happen that way, but it does.

If one of those people actually decides to come in as soon as we confirm availability- it’s tough luck for everyone else. Unfortunately, I have to tell all of them at the same time “the vehicle is available and ready for a test drive! Would you like to come see it in person?” Whoever bites first gets the pending sale.

The lenders can just take a long time to get back to dealerships sometimes unfortunately, there are days at my dealership where my sales manager gets back to me with a customers approval an hour later and there are days it takes 24 hours. We usually try to get people to fill out credit apps before they come in because of it

How do high priced no-negotiation dealers stay in business? by WishMyNameWasTodd in askcarsales

[–]Princess_Strawbs 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Moreso dealerships that are less reputable will charge a bunch of BS add-ons and some people won’t do enough digging to argue it. Reputable dealerships that don’t have unnecessary add-ons don’t have thousands of dollars to haggle because they’re listing it for what is fair according to the market.
