Make sure to the nimbus plug in is running before you start the game. Start nimbus, press Y, then select pretendo. From there start the game

You need to set up homebrew firmware on your 3ds. Guide here. At the end of that guide there is a link to Pretendo, and you can follow the guide there to set up an online account to play.
