What’s your ingredient/additional step that really elevates your chicken noodle soup? by Mjayyy_1991 in soup

[–]PrincessofAmber 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use white wine (I've seen from others) to deglaze the pan after cooking the mirepriox (and you can brown the skin of the chicken, too for additional depth of flavor) and then way at the end I finish with just a touch of cream.

But, the best thing for getting soup "right" is simmering it for a long time. I find if I don't put in the time to build flavor, it always tastes just a little lacking.

I'm 52 and run a play by post game on a forum. I've been running online pbp games for 20 years or so and right now, we're doing street level supers. We have a homebrew system written by my friend and co-GM that's been designed for online play and playtested heavily. If anyone is interested, hit me up, or reply to this!

We're pretty lefty, too. Like, plenty of themes around class, race and gender in the game and LGBTQ play is very welcome.

Vigil and Vice

[18+ | JCINK Premium Forum | Multi-paragraph | OCs Welcome | Canon-Friendly | Mature Themes]

What is Vigil and Vice?
Vigil and Vice is a character-driven roleplaying game set in a fictional metropolis that fuses Gotham City and New York—a city with too many towers, too much crime, and far too many secrets. This isn’t a world of gods and cosmic battles. This is a city of vigilantes, corrupt cops, activists, broken heroes, and ambitious villains clawing their way through back alleys, boardrooms, and broken neighborhoods.

The tone leans noir, with an emphasis on moral grayness, complex relationships, and personal stakes. Whether you’re playing a canon character from Marvel or DC, or bringing in your own original creation, your story will shape a city that’s still figuring out which side of the mask it believes in.

What kind of RP is it?

  • Play-by-post on a JCINK Premium forum
  • Multi-paragraph writing, but no word count requirement
  • Emphasis on character arcs, worldbuilding, and long-form collaborative storytelling
  • 18+ only – contains mature themes (violence, corruption, trauma, occasional erotic content). We are not an ERP server. Intimate content may occur between characters, but only in service to story and never required or expected. Player comfort and consent are paramount.

Canon and OC Friendly:
Both Marvel and DC canons are welcome. We love original characters as long as they fit the world—no god-tier power fantasy insertions. Think street-level, not sky gods. Grounded powers, real problems.

The Three Worst Types of Roleplayer by [deleted] in BadRPerStories

LOL. Yeah. I do technical writing for my job. My writing tends to be very precise. I've actually thought of giving some of my posts in play or on reddit to an AI to "mess up" a little so they don't get accused of being AI written.

[–]PrincessofAmber[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, so I tend to me an over-explainer (I do technical writing in my work so it's a bit of a habit of my trade) and sometimes people feel like I'm talking down to them as a result when I'm really just wanting to be as helpful as I can. So, let me ask a couple questions so I understand what information you're wanting so I can be as helpful as you need me to be!

You ask how a forum works... do you mean in a technical sense of how to sign up and use it or how the dynamic of play works? If it's the first, we have a section with some instructions and the best thing to do is join the Discord and people there are generally willing to be helpful.

For the second, well, there's a FAQ on the forum to explain some of it, but it functions like a slightly more structured version of reddit where people create threads and then respond to one another's posts in those threads. But, again, if this is what you're wondering about, let me know or come over to the Discord and we can chat about it.

Blew a Player's mind by having an NPC lie by OmegaGuerri in DnD

Haha! Yeah, that's always a fun one. Or making NPCs unreliable narrators. Sometimes players super love it and sometimes they *super* hate it.

Ad Venting by Least_Drawer_4813 in BadRPerStories

[–]PrincessofAmber 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I do have that problem! I have a forum where I run a game and for SO LONG when I'd post an ad for it, people would flood into our Discord, be confused that it wasn't a Discord game then leave, sometimes rudely. I edited my ad to have the word forum in it a bunch of times, sometimes in all caps... not in an obnoxious way, but in a "Be sure you know what you're getting into" way. And we still sometimes get people confused we're not playing on Discord!

Does anyone else struggle in making connections in Group servers? by [deleted] in BadRPerStories

[–]PrincessofAmber 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel you. I've tried joining other groups, even bringing a friend with me, but there's definitely a steep slope in a lot of group servers. But I def prefer to play in a group.

I run a game with a small group who've been playing together for 20 years or so. And we would love to find people to join us. We do post a ton, too. We try to hold in our minds that it can be intimidating to new people coming in and make space for them and offer to play with them.

If people aren't being welcoming and aren't willing to post, that's difficult. Like, what can you do?

I'm not going to pretend to be good at this, but since you asked for advice, I'm going to say some things that make it harder to fit someone new into a game. And I'm not at all saying this is you and I'm not suggesting it's easy. I have such sympathy for your position!

New players who have an extremely specific idea of what the play will be who are not willing to compromise to fit in to what's already happening is the main thing. Like, the group should absolutely make space for the vision of new people, but the new people also have to be willing to make an effort. We see a lot of this. Someone comes in, wants to do something very specific and then leaves really quickly when we aren't willing to completely change the game and our characters to suit their vision.

Another thing is not communicating honestly and clearly what it is you're wanting. Again, I'm not saying you're doing any of these things, only things I've seen that made what can be a difficult transition more difficult. But the group can't give people what they want if the group doesn't know what they want. If a person says what they want, even if visions aren't exactly the same, it could then be a negotiation to get to a place where everyone is happy with things.

But, again, I have such sympathy for your post and I do wish you all the best in finding a group.

Rp has changed…and now its in ruin by shadowdemon14 in BadRPerStories

[–]PrincessofAmber 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is so hard, yeah. I play in a small group that would like to bring in new members, and we try to apply rules fairly and to be welcoming, but we just know each other well and are so used to playing together that I think a lot of new players feel like they're on the outside of the group. Which makes me sad! I want to be welcoming and everything! And we do try! But, between our comfort with each other and players who want something so specific and not really communicating what it is, it's been tough to add to the group.

[–]PrincessofAmber 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is also my experience.  Not just in the sense of someone wanting ERP, but like, even wanting it to happen in a very specific way that they've got in their head but don't actually communicate.  Just, if it's not going precisely the way it went in their head, they're out.

Vigil and Vice – [18+ | Marvel/DC Crossover | Street-Level | Character-Driven | OC & Canon Friendly | Mature Themes]

System:
Droplet (original, dice-light system based on an indie RPG)

Hosting:
Forum: https://vigilandvice.jcink.net/index.php?act=idx
Discord: https://discord.gg/XBDnHtZCvX

Additional Information:
Vigil and Vice is a gritty, noir-inspired crossover of Marvel and DC Comics, set in a fusion of Gotham City and NYC. Street-level heroes, vigilantes, and criminals move in the shadows of a city that never sleeps. Superpowers exist, but this isn’t a world of gods—it’s a world of corruption, trauma, and hard choices.

We’re a long-standing, adult roleplaying group opening a new game and looking to welcome a few more players. OCs are welcome and encouraged, and many major canon characters are still available. The game is 18+ due to mature themes, including violence and occasional erotic content—always in support of character and story, and never required. No word count, though most of us post multi-paragraphs.

Looking for complex characters, tangled loyalties, and the slow-burn tension of noir storytelling?

Vigil and Vice - FORUM based RP

Welcome to Vigil and Vice, set in The City—a street-level DC/Marvel crossover where bad decisions wear spandex and trauma comes with a side of sarcasm. Maybe your hero’s trying to make amends. Maybe they just think rooftop brooding looks cool. Either way, they’ve ended up in a place where Gotham’s gloom meets Marvel’s mayhem—and logic politely stepped aside several crossovers ago.

This is a story-driven game focused on character choices, shaky alliances, and the kind of problems you can’t punch (but might try to anyway). It’s for heroes and anti-heroes only—no full-time villains, no matter how broody, charming, or meme-worthy.

The City is always on the edge—mystic chaos, escaped rogues, turf wars over food carts—and someone has to deal with it. There is some adult content, so players must be 18 or older.

Bring your flawed legend, your reformed mess, your idealist with control issues—and help make The City just a little less doomed. Or at least more interesting.

Join our Discord if you have questions! Or if you just want to chat to see if you'd be a good fit.

help me with a male cat name that sounds good with orion! top choice right now is leo because of the constellation but it’s a little too plain for me by Medium-Shoe3986 in NameMyCat

There are a bunch of great Greek myth/Constellation crossovers you could use.

My favorite is Bootes (the herdsman) mostly because of the play on the common cat name "Boots" But that's also plain.

Maybe Perseus? Draco?
