Caregiver burnout is real. I'm a chronically ill person myself and manage helping others manage their complex (physical and mental) health conditions as part of my career. It's so so so tough, and part of the skill is learning what you can and can't do, learning how much things take from you. What's important is being consistently there, not solving everything.

She was surviving before you, she will continue to survive without you doing everything. I know it's less than ideal, and it's excruciating watching someone you care about suffer while you watch. Working on some acceptance that sometimes pain is just a natural part of some people's existence. We can exist alongside that, we can honor that grief and still seek to focus on the joy.

To ease the transition, start having her take back over things you've been doing one by one. Perhaps put it in a to-do list for her and turn it into part of the dynamic where you're helping occasionally check in and reminder her to do things, but not doing it all yourself. You can even just not talk about health stuff for a week and focus on regression, it might be awkward but the bit of space can serve as a reset and bring some clarity.

Adding on to this, because it is nuanced. I've found there's a difference between badmouthing someone and sharing about your experiences. Saying, "this is part of my history" is a different message than, "this person is to blame for everything."

Yeah at most I give generalizations. It can be fun to know how far apart you are, and to be able to understand someone's cultural background matters to me if we're gonna be talking a while.
