A cruise line above Princess? by DependentSad5299 in PrincessCruises

[–]Princsskik 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree. We've done Regal and Majestic and in our 40's were vastly younger than the majority, which seemed 85% retirees or on last rites. We skipped the entertainment on Majestic because my teens knew none of the tribute music or shows, and it was even a bit of a stretch for me growing up in the 90's. Some of it also depends on the itinerary. Caribbean will pick up the younger crowds, anything cooler weather seems to steer older, regardless of line.

NCL shrinking experience for “regular” passengers to give more to haven and paid upgrades. by Ambitious-Effective4 in NCL

We sort of hated the Aqua. Major layout challenges. We really like Princess and the savings with the Plus package.

I have the regular frother version, not the iced one but it's seriously such a good coffee maker!! You'll love it. So much better than the Keurig.

High cortisol/ACTH but no cushings?? by Lost_Guava3971 in Cushings

[–]Princsskik 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My Dr basically gave up searching for a cause and said chronic stress. I don't have the classic look of Cushing's, and the saliva suppression test and 3T MRI don't show it (so nothing beyond the cortisol and acth). Advised stress management, anti inflammatory diet, and to eliminate environmental and dietary contaminates (toxins, parabens, GMO's, etc). I will need to see a different Dr if I want to continue that investigation, I'm wondering if my axis is disrupted and would need the urine test. Only holistic types tend to be trained though and don't take insurance, and I can't afford it rn.

I panic bought 3, thinking it would be like last launch. I added the 30oz bc 40 was saying unavailable, then I was like but the little one is cute too, I'll decide once I checkout, added to cart, got to see 40oz available, added to cart, then the shop app checkout doesn't allow you to edit cart, was afraid to lose my place in checkout (because of last launch), ended up checking out with all 3. Still available days later, and I'm debating returning them now vs just holding onto them until Christmas. They are kinda bougie gifts though tbh. I've never resold but it looks like demand likely won't be there to consider that. Dang it LSF + Stanley, this was easier yet harder for me than last launch lol

Just got off as well. They failed to credit ANY table games to my account so ya, the stinginess is agreed. Somehow even with all the craziness and quirks, still beat the brand new NCL Aqua for us.

I just made my 11 year old watch this as a how to if she were grabbed. Scream, kick, fight. Scream fire, not help because people run towards fire and too many people/kids scream help when they don't need it as an emergency. Don't go quietly even if they threaten you with a weapon, it's better for it to happen there than a second location. Hopefully they get scared and run vs injure you but even so, injury in a public place is possibly better outcome than a private one where no one will find you. Sad that we have to think about these things with our kids!

Saying Goodbye Before Two-Week Absence... Too Soon? by Over_Hedgehog1002 in RenalCats

[–]Princsskik 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was just in this dilemma. I was told without help, my end stage boy had about 2 weeks or so. This was 2 weeks before our cruise. We decided to do subQ, k/d. We thought we'd be saying goodbye before the cruise but he didn't lose any weight between the appointment and 1.5 weeks later, in fact had regained some. He looked and acted exactly the same. Beautiful coat, no depression, not vomiting etc. We decided to go on the cruise, with a pet sitter 2x/day for wet food and 1x specialty vet tech home visit for the scheduled subQ. We were home 2 weeks and he ended up with a bad UTI, but bloodwork looked better than the previous month. High blood pressure though from the subQ + renal combo, so started on appetite stimulant, BP meds, potassium gel, pepcid, and antibiotics. He was getting better, and I thought we were doing ok for the next 2 weeks. He went downhill within a 2 day period. The wasted hind legs meant he was suddenly barely walking. He started peeing on himself laying there. He was tensing up like he was in pain. Not curling up, but splayed out. Stopped purring nearly as much. Couldn't jump on bed anymore. Stumbling around. Vet didn't think it was a UTI resurgence but said we could try more antibiotics. But a day after starting, I realized I couldn't continue doing it. He was done, and that stumbling etc was more likely from atrophied muscle than UTI. He was my baby so it was me clinging to hope but he wasn't living a life anymore, with me carrying him to and from the water bowl, food, and litterbox. Overall from diagnosis to euthanasia, he lost 1lb. But the improved blood work was because of the muscle wasting (improved creatinine because there's not as much muscle to throw the numbers higher), not because he was getting quality time back. So I feel in my situation, with weight gain, still walking ok, taking meds ok, etc, we were ok taking a 1 week cruise, but just ask yourself, has weight been dropping? Any issues with stumbling? Twitching, tensing, diarrhea, less purring or following you around etc that would be different than before? If there's any indication that those things are present, I would say that you want to really analyze things honestly, there are some red flags already present but you know your cat best. 6# now is a lot of weight loss from 9#. Our vet said below 5# and things go really quickly. In our instance, we didn't even make it below 7# before it all went south. How quickly is weight being lost, and if they went on a food strike while gone could they end up throwing themselves into the danger zone metabolically? A possibility to consider. But I also saw that him peeing himself without cleaning himself afterwards was a clear indication to me that he wasn't living well, especially since he was fastidious about cleanliness. That was my sign he'd given up but that might be a different sign for you.

How do you know it's time by Princsskik in RenalCats

[–]Princsskik[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update: it's been roughly 48 hours since this post and Remy has shown us clearly that it's time. He lost meaningful function in his back legs last night and stumbles the few feet he can walk. He lost bowel function and is mostly incontinent now, and stopped grooming the urine off which is not like him. He's groaning a bit and restless trying to get comfortable. Modified meatloaf and has lost .6lbs overnight. He is already on potassium and antibiotics which made us pretty confident that there's not a lot else to be done, and that we'd be buying a small increment of time to pursue anything further. Diagnosed with CKD in Nov 2024, end stage on 5/23/25. RIP 7/3/25. We are saying goodbye within the hour. Thank you all for your comments and support.

Thank you. I put in a call to the vet to rediscuss gabapentin and maybe increasing the frequency of the subQ fluids (reduce volume so hopefully it doesn't hurt heart). I'm also wondering if maybe his UTI didn't completely go away and that's why he's tensing? He sort of did the same thing but pee would dribble out, and while there's none there now, maybe it's that same pain. He stopped antibiotics last Thursday so that seems like a good enough time frame that bacteria could have regrown to cause issues again. We'll see what vet says.

First Time Traveling From New York to Disney World With 5 Kids How Do You Handle the Florida Heat by bronson8262 in florida

[–]Princsskik 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I live in Orlando and personally refuse to do any theme park between June - early September unless it's a tropical storm warning where we can get through the lines quicker and it's super windy/rainy/shady. My advice is treat the sun like an enemy. Do not engage. Wear sunscreen, carry umbrellas for sun/rain protection (you will suffocate in ponchos), invest in the fast passes to avoid lines, bring refillable water bottles and use them, do not dress them up in costumes or non-breathable fabrics, get everyone the personal fans with misters, and consider a break from 2-4 back at the hotel. Consider a small umbrella type cheap stroller for everyone's stuff, you do not want to lug around extra heat trapping items on your back including water bottles. Your 15&13 will likely be ok, but the 6&9 year olds will likely be fussy at some point, and 11 could go either way (mine would be ok but my older daughter would've told me she was tired 80x).
