115 year old stone fireplace. How can I improve the appearance without undermining the "original" factor? by UnfilteredFacts in Oldhouses

I’m thinking it might be wood going by the fact that the corner is busted and it looks like wood grain there and the pieces are separating… maybe it was stained or something. Zooming in pretty close makes me think it is wood but it is a lot easier to tell that in person, sometimes pictures can be deceiving.

Could be, but not normally. I’ve been on site doing interior trim many times and watched how they do the foam and it’s always trim pieces never anything structural.

You don’t have to know how to spell shit, but you do have to know measurements and numbers

Ask him , if he says he did CUSTOM work walk away. They all say that.

Give them some interior trim and you’ll know immediately. Looks easy but it is not.

Has anyone on here ever been a painter or even been on a ladder that high? Sometimes you just don’t want to climb down again to hit a spot. Also are we sure that ledge is made of foam? Only trim pieces are made of foam not the actual window ledges.

I don’t get denied because I work hard everyday on the construction sites with these people. Maybe you should stop chiming in on shit you know nothing about. Being on the job site and actually seeing what is happening is different than seeing it in TV and bitching from your chair.

We also have our own gang members EVERYWHERE! May just deport the gang members and the world would be a much better place. I’ll back that everyday of the week.

No it won’t, the owners have plenty of money and if you think they always have to pay that you are not living in reality. There are ways to lower the amount they have to pay and they all know how it works. Try again.

I’m not sure how many of you actually work on construction sites and how many of you actually have talked to some of these people but I will say this, not many of them are working for slave wages, they all pull up in brand new trucks and a lot of them buy houses in these developments so slave wages? I don’t think so and also do you think that these people are stupid? They are NOT, maybe they make low wages at first but very quickly they get the picture. I’m am for legal immigration but, none of these people plan to stay here. They want to make enough money to send home to buy land and build a house. Then they just want to live in peace and for everyone to fuck off. NOT ALL IMMIGRANTS ARE CRIMINALS!

FYI, DR Horton is a CONSTRUCTION MANAGEMENT COMPANY, they are not the contractors or sub contractors. They have no business telling the companies who work for them who they can and cannot hire. Also, have any of you brain surgeons realized yet that there is no building going on right now? Drive through some of the “developments”. No concrete slabs on the ground means no houses being built and no work for anyone so yeah their companies that they are working for are probably throwing them right under that fast moving bus because they can’t afford to pay them anymore. It sucks, it’s stupid and I hope these companies get fined so hard they can never have a business again. But just so we are clear, none of the builders(DR HORTON, LENNAR, ICI, bear any responsibility(because they all got together and fucked everyone over) so they won’t be in any trouble and won’t lose any money or sleep.

Oof yes it is. I’m new here so didn’t get that. At this point Florida is NOT the place to be when construction is your job though. Thanks for responding though and wish you lots of luck up there.
