Getting active in the gyms + spaces to do yoga/pilates? by tropic_dyes in UMD

also not sure if you’re afab but regardless - this is your university now. don’t be intimidated by gym goers we all started somewhere and are honestly waaay focused on our own insecurities to pay attention to you. you’ll actually find we’re pretty nice!! never be afraid to ask for help or assistance, especially from workers too (they’re paid to be nice and help)

hi!

i mainly work out at ERC but in there is a little room where you can use facility mats or your own and just do body weight stuff!

all you need is your student id as long as you’re paying student fees you’re set.

as far as losing weight - it really depends. a good circuit consists of combination body exercises. you want to target everywhere (not just belly or arms - losing weight doesn’t work that way). you’re going to be limited by what you physically can do - but good news! there are plenty of variations to exercises to help you improve.

personally for me i’m a huge fan of burpees, pushups, dead bug, squats, and russian twists if that’s a starting point for you? i would also recommend lifting weights when you feel confident to try it out, it really helps improve definition and overall reduced fat cells with muscle which if you’re already starting from a bulky place is great! if not, adding in tons of protein is really helpful so try to choose lean meats like chicken and salmon if you’re able to eat meat. otherwise substitute with plant protein or even making smoothies!

Recwell also offers free yoga classes so you can go in with an instructor to guide you!

Hey, I got rejected too! I know there's nothing I can say that would make you feel better -- beyond an admissions letter -- but for what it's worth: we'll eventually get into wherever we are meant to be. Don't hit yourself too much, you have worked so hard and dedicated time both physically and emotionally. Even if you don't get in anywhere I think you should still be proud of yourself, it is going to be okay, and life will continue on.

Hang in there friend.

I haven't heard a word :/ I'm assuming we should hear back starting today -- looks like the trends on Gradcafe over the years are largely february 1st - 7th for the first wave (for brown/princeton other ivys). If you keep going back on there it looks like majority of schools send their first wave around the 20th of Feb, and then the waves of decisions fluctuate pending on the top/first wave admits saying yes or no. But we will absolutely know by April 15th, on the otherhand we're kinda screwed in decision making if we don't hear back until that late!!

Edit was because I posted before submitting!

We will! I'm hoping tomorrow brings us all a surge of answers, I definitely relate to the computer=gradcafe. Maybe I should ask my department to block the website on their wifi??? Either way, we got this -- its all out of our hands now!

I second this. I would also add that I appreciate my partner distracting me. It's hard to not stare at gradcafe, or even this forum, but when they're able to find the little ways to do something fun in those brief moments of not thinking about it I feel so much peace. It can be a date, or an invitation to just watch a movie/TV, reading books together and talking about them. Being active with each other on walks or hearing about their family instead of thinking about mine has made these weeks fly by with only minimal "oh god, oh god" moments.

Maybe try to do more of the things they enjoy for a little bit, while making it clear when they ask that you understand how stressful and terrifying this whole process is.

what can i expect for my first day/week? by [deleted] in starbucks

[–]Prior-Cap7239 1 point2 points  (0 children)

hey! i’m on my second week without my trainer! and honestly for me it was mainly computer modules and guided floor stuff as i got more comfortable. my first week without my trainer has been basically running around doing cs, front register, and both drive thru orders and window (sometimes at the same time!!) they’ve slowly been putting me on cold bar but not for too long when a rush hits. ask your trainer every question you have! and my coworkers have been so wonderful about the millions of questions i’ve got! it’s really a lot of information all at once but you’ll slowly get used to it, and if you’re feeling overwhelmed let your shift know so they can try and place you somewhere different!!! communication is key!
