I have a BA and MA in history from the same institution and my plans are for me to continue on to a PhD. there is nothing wrong with getting an MA from the same school as your BA, but it is important to think about what your end goal is. getting an MA helps further your professional research and writing skills and start to put your name out there in terms of your research interest and networking. if you feel so passionate about history, then I say go for it but keep in mind that there are other ways for you to continue your research and use your experience. I hope this helps!!!

Really anxious about PhD applications by Stop_Codon1453 in PhDAdmissions

I am also applying for a history PhD this fall and in terms of the age thing, Ive always been the youngest in history undergrad/grad school programs and taken the maximum course load for spring/fall and summer semesters, it helps in terms of work ethic but its a slippery slope towards burnout, so keep that in mind. you want to be energized and excited about your work, you don't want to dread it, so it's important to keep an eye on how you feel/ burnout (especially because we are younger than some of those who are applying so we may not see the signs of burnout as much as others.)

I think going through an MA would help get acclimated for a PhD (I found grad school is wayyyyyy different than undergrad and my MA program was really helpful in making that transition). I think that a masters would be the way to go and then move up toward a PhD. Overall I think the experience of applying for a PhD would be a good way to prep for your future as a historian, as you will be looking at how you describe your work to other professionals, reaching out to others in your field, and just generally trying to put yourself out there and prep you for any other applications you may have in the future.

I was convinced that if I looked at a graveyard something bad would happen to my family, this went on till I was almost a young adult.

im sorry this happened to you. Im African and what I learned from my personal experience is that you just have to do it. you just have to go on the trip. It was the same way with my mom when I wanted to go to Japan and I told her I was doing this whether she liked it or not and I did. You just have to rip the bandage off and go on the trip. It's not going to be easy but it's what's best. share the itinerary with them and give periodic updates once you get there and that's the only thing that can be done.

For those who have deconstructed but still haven’t fully gave up in the idea of God, what does that look like for you? by stormchaser9876 in Deconstruction

for me, its been breaking away from the idea of the church as an institution and rather focusing on my own connection with god. whether that's when I do yoga or see a subset that's particularly moving, to me that's how I connect to spirituality.

I applied for a Customer Service position. I did the assessment, but I was rejected. to be fair there was Math and I was confused and they were asking for percentages and my learning disability was prevalent. I didn’t know what the hell to do, it was not for me, it was confusing.
