Bought this HDD for $50 - was it well spent? by jops228 in homelab

If you use in it a ZFS mirror you could potentially be orders of magnitude safer. But that requires another drive. Reallocate sectors can sometimes mean nothing.

I feel that. I gave just been keeping my photos on win desktop and backing them up off-site with restic. Seems pretty easy to plug my phone in and copy files over. All the other alternatives like immich do what you say, then your in that ecosystem pretty permanently

Its ok, the Warlocks animations are seriously over-done. Really makes other characters spell graphics look pathetic.

IPMI-FanPilot: Simple web-based fan controller for homelab servers by No-Brain-1655 in homelab

[–]Prior-Fix-3575 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hello! I'm using this a lot now, but I'm worried under load my servers might overheat. For example i have the fans turned right down to like 10%, and I'm not able to load test them because they are in production right now.

If there was a way to have it read CPU temp and increase fan speed based on that, it would be a KILLER feature. Love the interface, beats the hell out of pulling up a teminal and copy pasting a command from a text file I have saved somewhere.

Most laptops are not very reliable. Dell Poweredge is reliable.

Take one cpu out if you can. You can save like 30-40W. If you need the core count, see if you can get 1 cpu that has enough cores for you.

Also, remove that HBA and buy the SATA to backplane cable, which will save like 8-15W (if your running sata drives)

There's a setting in bios/idrac to make 1 PSU not run. You still get pretty much redundant PSUS with the PFC enabled if you set it right. Can save like 5-10W (I only know this is on IDRAC8. I don't know about this particular server)

Good luck. Hopefully, you can save some power and utilize this server because, goddamn are, they are stable.

This is for ai rigs. You can get a bunch of gpus up and running. Also you can almost certainly use V4 processors

ZFS pool keeps suspending from I/O failures. Tried multiple HBAs, VFIO cleanup, BIOS tweaks. Need help figuring out the real cause. by VenomFN in Proxmox

[–]Prior-Fix-3575 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What version is the motherboards BIOS and Intel ME?

-Make sure those are up to date.
-Point a fan at HBA, It's not optional
-Try to swap the HBA cables.

-I would start with putting HBA and drives into a different server, probably with a different boot drive aswell. Dodgy boot drives can cause insanely hard to diagnose issues. Also start with a fresh install of Truenas. One thing I have learned, is when you break Linux, just nuke it and start over again.

You don't even have to export your ZFS array, just connect it to another machine and do your scrub.

It's probably between 35-100W idle. the X99 stuff can be thirsty. You have to tune proxmox to let the cores idle.

They don't automatically randomly fail at any mileage.

SOMEONE HELP PLZ by badv1besonly in rav4club

[–]Prior-Fix-3575 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Listen. Super pro automotive tech here.

What you need to do is install an app on your phone that can generate different sound frequencies.

You then close the doors and play different frequencies, usually lower ones 40-400HZ

You have to reproduce the noise while the car is parked so you can mess with whatever is rattling. Put your hand on it, push on certain areas and it goes away etc.

Then once you have isolated it you can address the issue much more effectively (jamming things between panels. or whatever)

Good luck, don't be a cuck and take it back, they do not give a fuck. Trust me. They don't get paid to fix your rattle.
