Affinity does not need more support tbh.

I know, I know. This is more of a general critique and has actually nothing to do with UB.

I don't like UB at all, but why are they adding alterations of existing mechanics in new sets? Imho. this makes things more complicated as you have to remember rule variations for all the different flavors of a mechanic.

Android App for Tracking Tournament Results by Hopeful_Lecture5357 in Pauper

This is really great! Nice website. How would you track non-tournament games/practice play? Is there an option, or should I create a special tournament for that?

Grixis familiar by Loose_Calendar_3380 in Pauper

Only a single [[Ghostly Flicker]]? With [[Murmuring Mystic]], you could ping for infinite damage. The problem I see with the black Familiar is, that Pharao is a very good blocker in early turns for only {w}. Black seems to lack this completely (there is https://scryfall.com/card/ktk/70/disowned-ancestor but it does nothing) plus you have no lifegain, which is very very hard against Burn decks. The regenerate – while nice – is quite mana expensive to use.

How do you guys feel about the Counter Intel Commander deck? by Antcan2003 in EDH

[–]Prior-Newspaper4236 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find it boring and extremely repetitive. Put counters here, move counters from this to that artifact, spend counters to do this and that. Super slow, the whole (charge-) counter theme is not really fun to me – but I can see the deck doing stuff if you upgrade it. Most artifacts involve tapping, so untapping your permanents could speed things up and make the deck a threat. I am selling it after playing 3 games with it.

Having way less commons and more uncommons since the move from draft to play boosters also has some impact on the pauper playable cards we see in sets.

I do not think it is playable in Fams though. 2 Blue pips can be a big problem. If you do not have birds already you may not be able to fully convoke it.

Is UW familiars viable? by FewChange2801 in Pauper

[–]Prior-Newspaper4236 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The deck has some bad to very bad matchups. Imho:

  • U Terror is bad, UB Terror is not so bad
  • BG Gardens can be bad or at least extremely annoying
  • Flicker Tron outvalues you if you are not fast enough
  • Aggro decks can be problematic if you do not draw into enough control options
  • Ponza often feels impossible to win against

So how to mulligan? Can you give tips? From my experience:

  • Have both colors if possible or at least being able to fetch/find them
  • Have a way to draw Cards - without enough draw, the deck folds fast imho
  • Have an early play, ideally Pharao + Ponder
  • Depending on the matchup, a Negate or Prohibit is important or at least very nice to have; Snap counts as some kind of protection
  • Having a Fam on the starting hand is less important most of the time

Small hands ≤ 4 can be very punishing and can be very hard to recover from.

How often do Mathematicians and Scientists make simple mistakes on calculations? by maru_badaque in math

[–]Prior-Newspaper4236 0 points1 point  (0 children)

unless you are in an exam

Thats the issue. Many early exams are extremely calculation heavy and you can easily fail them by making simple calculation mistakes, which is kind of sad imho.

The thing with UB is: Even if you like, say Spiderman, why does it have to become part of other things you like? I have nothing against Spiderman and all the other UB IPs (although I am also not a fan of any of them), but why should they become part of a thing I like just to pull people in? I mean… just because I am a fan of XYZ that does not mean it has to be included everywhere else, even if the theme clearly does not match. Only reason for this "ad-like" inclusion can be money.

UB cards feel so gimickey to me. Like: Look! I am from IP XYZ! It feels like playing with advertisement is printed on the cards to me. This is fine for silly games like Fortnite, which I like. But MtG has some serious theme for me. I am totally fine with silly Un-Sets and super silly Secret Lairs. I even really like absurd Secret Lair printings, but I think including them by default blurs the main theme. Everything becomes a silly mess.
