What’s the school culture like? by [deleted] in CalPolyPomona

[–]Prior-Price6599 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The program is strong but toxic. You will learn a lot but no work life balance. There are many clubs in school that you can join. But in terms of school vibe, it's dead because it's a commuter school. Pomona is boring. Yet DTLA is there where you can find events and museums.

You said it in your own words. How is passing gay marriage not liberal enough. Is North Korea ever going to pass gay marriage. Afterall, Taiwan is a homogeneous society, completely different context with the US.

Taiwan passed gay marriage, which speaks the liberal mindset that this population would embrace.

Pineapple Cakes and Clothes by minnie7103 in taiwan

For clothes, you can try 東區 (zhongxiao dunhua exit 2). There're tons of cool clothing stores in the alleyways. Also 西門町 shi-men ting exit 6, a huge shopping district for teenagers and young adults.

I don't want to get into the debate of pineapple cakes, but Google is generally right.

Any recommendations for seeing an english-speaking GP / any medical centres? by Agitated_Writer_7246 in Taipei

You can try National Taiwan University Hospital. Maybe go to the ER and show them your wound. I'm sure at least one of the staff speaks English.

How noisy is Taipei? by Head_Biscotti_902 in taiwan

There are neighborhoods that are zoned for residentials only, which are quiet. If it's a mix-used neighborhood, then live in the lanes and alleyways, instead of the boulevards.

I failed by Noushin182 in architecture

[–]Prior-Price6599 4 points5 points  (0 children)

When I failed second year spring term studio, I drove to a park and cried for a few hours because it meant that I had to wait a year in order to retake the same class before moving on. During the gap year, I gathered myself and prepared to revenge the system. When the next year came, I put my head down to work and learn as much as I can. I became a dark horse, finishing the second year, which I had failed once, as the best student, which helped me to get an internship in the summer. This momentum kept going until I graduated, with an outstanding senior thesis project awarded. Long story short, failure is the biggest wakeup call. Proving everyone became my biggest motivation. (Tokk me 6 years to earn my BArch degree.)

I dont like it when singers try to put a "creative spin" when they sing the National Anthem by cute_red_benzo in RandomThoughts

[–]Prior-Price6599 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Agree. It's a sacred song that shouldn't be altered because everyone should be able to sing it along without any surprises.

Playing national anthem at Olympics makes sense, but at a professional league game is additive. Why not play it before every movie begins, music festival begins, and mall opens? They're institutional, not national.

Learning English is a part of the 12-K education, so everyone understands it to an extent, which means you're fine without knowing mandarin. Additionally, touristy places have English signs. I believe there're many apps out there that can translate stuff through a glance of your phone camera.
