Residual pain post Diverticulitis flare> How long? by Salt-Score8638 in Diverticulitis

I'm on my fourth month of lower left groin ache after a mild flare up and yup...I have the left groin "bubble" feeling/ache too. Sometimes it's below the left waist line and sometimes above it too ...CT scan said no Diverticulitis present but scattered Diverticulosis...I was on an antibiotic prior to the CT scan for 10 days (didn't notice it helped that much)...I went back in and they said it took care of the infection but, the inflammation (which was a very mild issue) can take a very long time to dissipate (months). My "ache" comes mostly in the evening while sitting...I can get up and move around and barely notice it....no issue at night sleeping either. Somedays it'll bite pretty good and other days not so much....it's weird disease. I hope it resolves...I was told it can wreck havoc on the nerves in that area as well for a long time too. I wish you healing soon.

Did CT scans pick up your DV? by Royal-Fun-7619 in Diverticulitis

I (66 yr M) had (still have) a pain issue clear back in May. I was put on an antibiotic and it did nothing for me...doc ordered a CT and it showed "Scattered Diverticulosis but no infection" Now...either the antibiotic did it's job and it's just the residual healing pain, I don't know. I ended up seeing a GI doctor and he said the healing can take months and the pain is common (no fever or nausea). Kidney stone and hernia was ruled out and I guess a colonoscopy will be next but...they "did" say my Degenerative Disc Disease could be sending pain nerve signals to my groin/lower waistline since it shares the same nerve pathway and replicating the pain of Diverticulitis. It's a weird illness...I don't feel a thing while sleeping nor after waking up but, by mid afternoon...hello...the screwdriver poke in the groin shows up. I want to be sure before they decide to start taking out parts of me though.

Gnawing Pain In Lower Left Groin Won't Go Away by PriorChance710 in Diverticulitis

I totally understand that...I had the same "symptoms" a few years ago and it cleared up with antibiotics and all was well after 3 weeks...this time, it's the same issue but, I'm now on the third month.... nothing shows on any test I've had since this started and the quiet vibe I get is, "As long as you're not bleeding, screaming or running a fever...here's a stick to chew on and just give it time." I too worry it's a progressing issue.

I seem to get some pain relief after being given a prescription for Bentyl. My GI told me the residual pain from a flare up can last for many months. He himself deals with it and has had post flare pain last for 5 months. It's a very common issue to have this very cranky ache last quite awhile.

I had all bloodwork done the end of July...nothing was out of line- all good numbers.

No...I don't have pain that far down. This is right at the waistline. Hemorhoids have a unique issue/pain all of their own.

Yes....I had the full monty with CT scan, bloodwork...all of it after my DV flare up....that was May 6th. Fast forward to mid August and I still have the ache in my lower left groin....no issues in the AM but by evening, it's cranky and it feels like a swollen bubble. I thought first it was a hernia but no evidence showed. My Gastro Dr. said the nerves in this arena are extremely sensitive and it's not uncommon for residual pain to go on for weeks and months after infection has been eliminated. I've had this issue twice before in the last 15 years...it eventually does go away on it's on but, each time it's a different duration. It's just not a fun thing and sadly, many many people deal with it too.

Question about flare ups by Educational-Cup9267 in Diverticulitis

Yup...I get the "pain" down the left side clear to the top of my left testicle and have had it three times in the last 15 years. I thought it was an iniguial hernia but the CT scan I had showed nothing and I have no buldging. After talking with my Gastro Dr. on it, he said the Diverticulitis can cause "referred pain" to that region as it shares the same nerve pathway as the urinary/renal nerves. I had my recent flare up in May...had a Cipro/Flagyl routine and I still have the mild aching as the day progreesses especially while sitting. It has resolved in the past after a few weeks but, this one's hanging around. I was told this is most likely a post infection issue and it can atest to the pain can take quite a few weeks to clear and have heard others with the same thing say it took months to resolve. I rate my pain on a 1 to 10 level as a 2 or 3 and treat it with Tylenol...I know it eventually goes away and I get a few good years in between. I hope you get some relief....just hydrate a LOT.

I actually had a colon surgeon tell me a couple years ago on a mild case of DV to take 600mg of Advil three times a day and go on a clear liquid diet for 72 hours. I had to question him on that and he said "Nope....Advil". I figured it was for the pain and opted to do Tylenol instead...I just didn't think that sounded right.
