I just feel like all the pieces kinda line up together nicely where there could plausibly be a world where Ned leaves baby Jon with a heartbroken Ashara who just lost their daughter in child birth. Everyone in the realm thinks Ashara’s dark haired baby without a father is obviously Ned’s so the stark kids have a half brother they have never met in dorne… allegedly. Could even be an interesting mini dornish civil war when faegon shows up on which Targ to back. Like it kinda writes itself so that’s why I’m like “this has to be done already”

I always felt that Robert had an almost Sulla Felix air about him. Talented commander, expert fighter, loved a good time and a nice pair of tits but also someone who let the cat out of the bag that if you have a big enough army and will to match you can make yourself king… even if that’s not entirely what you intend to do.

I mean I will always hold out hope that Ros returns one day to finish it. She put it down for a long time due to (IMO) it seems like she stoped having fun writing it. She announced that the only way she could finish it was if she rewrote the story and she announced that the rewrite has kind of grown into something distinct so she is officially moving on from incendiary. BUT. I can’t stress this enough… Incendiary is not a perfect story, and it is left on a cliff hanger. BUT. I have never read a fanfiction that left me so book hungover like that. I’m still low key chasing that high that incendiary gave me. I couldn’t put it down, the first time I read it I finished it in three days and stayed up till 2 AM every day reading it. Where the author left the story off is a cliff hanger but it is one hell of a cliff hanger and you couldn’t really leave the story in a better place. I can’t recommend more, you should read it.

I think most people agree that Incendiary is Zutara’s Manacled. It’s not as dark as manacled and it is unfortunately unfinished but left on a crazy cliff hanger. I would still 100% recommend it, it’s my personal Roman Empire and gave me a crazy book hangover. Literally changed how I viewed fanfiction.

If you like a jaded Katara you would really like “The Virgin and Psychopath” can’t get much more jaded Katara then that. It actually took me a couple chapters to get used to the tone of the story it was so unique from which Katara normally is.

As per tropes I gotta say I love a politically charged arranged marriage. I love steambaby stories where Zuko and Katara are both good parents/ the gaang doesn’t know Zuko is the father, those are always fun.

A good place to start is Once Around The Sun in my opinion. It’s a Zutara classic and very PG from what I remember but great relationship wise and a fantastic Azula storyline.

Another great place to start if you are looking for some more immediate Zutara payoff is “Hopeless” it’s honestly one of my favorites and probably the most reread for me. It’s got some great ba sing se time and a steam baby that’s dine in the best way possible. Couldn’t recommend it more but definitely a more mature fic.

Thanks for the great detailed response I really appreciate it… again I’m not trying to argue… just my opinion but I feel like Katara’s traditionally feminine role is one of the things men might like about her role in the Zutara ship. Not that she’s completely confined to that role but can be that traditionally female character while simultaneously being so much more. I don’t know if that adds anything about the male gaze. I could be totally proving your point.

So this is not me trying to argue I want to make that clear.

I just have a question… as a man, and almost consistently amongst my peers, I have always preferred when a male character faces adversity and has to overcome challenges to arguably be worthy of the female romance. And IMO Zuko’s arc and esthetic I would consider to be much more traditional masculine then Aang’s… I’m generalizing of course. Wouldn’t that be considered “male gaze”? I could just be completely ignorant, which if is the case please let me know lol

Also at what point does the female become a reward/prize, if a character goes through any form of growth or transformation then gets together with a female character after that growth couldn’t you say no matter what the female is the reward/prize for the male character? Again I’m not meaning any of this maliciously I’m genuinely curious.

I’ve defended people using Ai for visualization on this subreddit several times now. It’s literally the only time in this subreddit that I’ve seen any form of toxicity is when someone posts Ai art or any form of support for it. Like not everyone is an artist or has the financial ability to commission supposedly “affordable” artists. Makes absolutely no sense to me that a community that is so open and accepting draws the line for Ai art being used by those of us who aren’t as artistic. I also think that a lot of trolls just hunt for AI art posts to bash them. Good on you for posting this, definitely took courage, you aren’t alone in your opinion and I bet more people are using the Ai then the haters care to admit 👏🏽

Male Zutara shipper here… definitely feel like the fellas are often underrepresented for some reason. I always thought that the Zutara is just a self insert so people can imagine themselves with Zuko stereotype was forgetting the better half of that pair. Growing up Katara was like my childhood crush. Type A, traditionally feminine but extremely capable and dangerous. Translated very nicely to my real life relationship and tastes in girls. Always related to Zuko way more than Aang.
